On August 3, Media Matters posted this segment from Rush Limbaugh on e-cigarettes and nicotine
Limbaugh Interprets New Nicotine Study: "Nicotine Is Good For You" And It's "Cool" | Media Matters for America

Notice the many biased comments, as left wing Media Matters routinely denounces Rush Limbaugh, FOX News, conservatives and Republicans.

Although Limbaugh inaccurately stated that tobacco was hazardous (instead of stating that repeatedly inhaling tobacco smoke is hazardous), his statements about nicotine are pretty consistent with the scientific evidence.

I'm also not a fan, but anyone with a huge audience is a great ally to have. He effects the thinking of millions of people <cringe>.

I don't understand why it stated that he "Repeats Falsehood That Secondhand Smoke Is Harmless," unless he did it at some other point in the broadcast. If he didn't, I think that is a egregious misrepresentation of what he said on the topic. As for the commentary, most posters clearly did not listen to the recording. They all thought he was trying to promote smoking.

I suspect that was from a previous posting years ago. When Limbaugh smoked, he claimed that there was no scientific evidence that secondhand smoke was hazardous.

Yes, it is a link. I stand corrected.

I do understand that until recently there were no studies to demonstrate the harm caused by secondhand smoke, but even so, I think that the plurality of anecdotal evidence made claims that it is innocuous irresponsible.

I'd call myself a combination of libertarian and republican and I love some things about Rush and hate some things about Rush. that said, over all I would say he'd be helpful to our cause just because of his sheer popularity. at the very least he'll get the conservative crowd vaping, which will set off a chain reaction. hopefully because of him the republicans will have a greater anti-FDA sentiment and when the republicans are in control next year-- and they will be, I'm sorry but Obama ain't gonna win this one.... unless the republicans make the same mistake as the democrats did in 2004 and took on somebody who sucked with somebody who was even WORSE (for the record I don't like Bush, I think he made things bad and Obama's making them worse) -- it will lead to decreased funding of the FDA.

The problem I see is if the conservatives en mass start supporting vaping... the liberals will knee-jerk the other way. Whereas the liberals can be voted out of office, they still control most media and educational institutions. This is still going to be a see-saw battle even with Rush on our side.

This. The last thing we need is for this to become a partisan issue (like steroids in baseball).

Except that virtually every proposal to ban the sale and/or restrict the usage of e-cigarettes has been sponsored and championed by liberal Democrats. In contrast, the vast majority of those who have opposed and voted against banning the sale and/or restricting the use of e-cigarettes are freedom loving Republicans.

This issue became partisan a long time ago.

As a long time registered Democrat who supports many progressive policies (e.g. civil rights for blacks, equal rights for gays, abortion and contraceptive rights for women, truthful sex education for children, immigration reform for Hispanics, etc.) it pains me greatly that liberal Democrats have been intentionally misrepresenting the health risks of smokefree tobacco/nicotine alternatives and have been campaigning for abstinence-only tobacco prohibition policies.

exactly. it's also a good thing if this becomes a partisan issue and is supported by the republicans, as long as it stops being partisan after a while. wanna know why? the republicans would have to screw up pretty bad to lose next election. don't get me wrong, they're not the greatest, but I think Obama will NOT win in 2012. if republicans start to support vaping en mass, the party in control for the next 4 years will be on our side, that will be our chance to REALLY start campaigning guns blazing.
