So i've mentioned i'm getting custom doors made for a while now. The guy has made 3-4 blocks that I declined because they weren't exactly what I was looking for.

Last night he showed me the newest attempt. It's unsanded, unrounded, and unpolished, but I OKed it and I think we have a winner.

I edited the photo to show what it should look like after a good polishing and sanding. This is going to be the crown jewel of my vape collection. Also comes with drip tip/beauty ring/button matching the wood.

I'm so sloppy I'm afraid to put that much money into vaping doors. I cracked my Minikin Kodama, so anything can happen!

I’m generally pretty careful with my stuff, and not just vaping stuff either. But accidents do happen….hence why they call them accidents.

Been contemplating one of those Vicious Aunty thingy’s with the swirly stabey woody finish. Perhaps a Christmas gift to myself, cause I know the damn cat won’t get me one (despite the thousands I’ve spent on the spoiled princess!)

I have one, and I'm not thrilled. I'm not thrilled with RDA and bottom feeders in general and I keep on buying them. I'll stick to tanks from now on.

I had one picked out, a full stab wood edition, money ready, in my cart, a click away from buying it.

It was a shop owner (highest end shop in Toronto, won't mention his name but you know him) who carries them that managed to talk me out of it. He e-mailed me this (snippet out of a long e-mail):

Be careful with the stab woods... make sure it's a full resin model or a Juma model before committing to it. If it's actual stabilized WOOD, take a pass on it, because wood mods (especially with flat panels like these doors) from Asia are notorious for warping in North American climate.

The issue doesn't have anything to do with the quality of the product or the wood - it more has to do with the fact that Asian countries are far more humid, and they are machined and stored at that humidity. They will function and last a long time in that environment, but the moment you bring it to North America, that's when the issues appear, and they will begin warping. I can't count the number of times I've had to send back warped wood to Vicious Ant, and is the sole reason why I've never brought in their wood Spades. Only if it's full resin.

I guess the industry standard here is to use maple burl, which has weird grain which I think gives it strength as it does not expand in a uniform direction under humidity or heat.

So for that reason I pulled out. And it makes complete sense considering how thin the doors need to be.

I still want a VA, especially a 21700 to fill the niche I have unfilled. But it's definitely going to be aluminium with resin doors.

Interesting - and makes sense once you think about it. Haven’t committed to a VA just yet….only contemplating. But if I do, it will most likely be a reg mod and not a squonker. However I say that now and my minds (all of them) could change. But thanks for sharing….very good to know. :thumb:

I don't think a regularish mod would be impacted as much. My Luna is, I assume, made out of Chinese wood; while it's not as humid in the forests of China there's likely still a propensity to warp. Because the Luna is full body stab without removable doors, it's a lot thicker and more solid. Haven't had issues with warping.

I don't know where they are getting their wood from, but Northern China is pretty temperate. I think it would make sense they get their woods from there.

You look at the climate statistics from Harbin and you could swear you're looking at Ottawa.

Non-stop breaking news coverage and the shelves are empty for the incoming cold front here too! I got my winter coat dry cleaned last week in preparation.
We’re supposed to have a record low daytime temp of 57* tomorrow/ pm 50*. Bet you $$ I see people in down and fur coats...

We got a couple more centimeters of snow yesterday, sandal weather is now officially over :(
I had a pair of sandals back some years ago. I loved them so much that every year I had to put them away I felt actually sad! The best most comfortable pair of sandals I ever had.

    Morning shinies :)

Yep, still snow on the ground - despite it being spring/summer ;) It's bizarre weather for sure.

    Ordered one of these:

    Tarot_Baby-silver.jpg

    Vaporesso Tarot Baby 2500mAh 85W

It's purely a shinyitis purchase - Liked the fire bar, size (same as a pico) and that it will fit larger RTAs. Also want to try out a drop-in atty that has dl type airflow ;)
