Just an FYI to @NolaMel and @AngeNZ -

I'm squonking with the KRMA bf rda and real happy with it.. it's top airflow closed down somewhat is pretty good.. very flavorful, no spit back..

I got the clone, and the cap is a bit tight, you have to be careful taking the cap on and off and trimming your leads, but for 14 dollars it's a dream even with that. I'm taking the cap off on my ohms reader since I'm using a mech and don't want to take chances, but it's not really a hassle since once your coil is built you have a while before you have to clean your coil or mess with it once on the squonker..

I thought you'd like to know..

That is weird. And you can't characterize the stench? It's not a septic tank gone awry or an underground heating oil tank that leaked? Both can smell awful but are sorta distinctive in their own ways.

Nope. We don’t have septic tanks here, but I’ve been in the area where one was being dug up. Ive cleaned out cow and horse barns.

The closest I can come is rotting vegetation, like tons of it, that has been rotting in an enclosed structure, suddenly opened. Down at the dump, the brush pile almost smells like this, really not something that you’d think was organic.

And the really weird thing, it’s very localized. There is no smell 50 feet from my property to the south, north, or east. It’s like a stink bomb went out from right next to my porch. And it was sudden, too.

Yet not one thing looks odd.

I’m just going to guess it was a demon or something similar and try to forget about it. ;)

Good morning Delores. I am glad Georgia is ok. You mentioned that is was a strong, overpowering smell like a skunk. Is there any chance it was a skunk? That smell makes me want to puke. If it was a demon, I recommend a call to the local priest/exorcist.:shock::nun:

This makes sense.....here's what toledo exterminators say...

    SKUNKS
Skunks are of course well-known for their odor, which they spray from glands. They are common in urban areas, and they like to establish denning areas under sheds or decks of houses. They will sometimes dig to gain access to these areas. They will have a litter of young, and often spray during mating seasons or at other times, causing odor problems. They will steal pet food and threaten pets. They also like to dig up lawns in their search for food. Read more about Skunk Removal.

    @DeloresRose

COMMON PROBLEMS: Skunks are common in suburban areas throughout most of the United States. They generally live wherever they please, without a great deal of caution. They like to live in dens when possible, especially in colder weather, when they will huddle together. Female skunks, of course, want a safe place to raise young, and are protective of the young, and will spray for protection. Thus, skunks cause some of the following problems:

    • Living under human dwelling such as a deck, porch, or shed.
    • Spraying and causing an odor in the immediate vicinity.
    • Threatening or spraying a pet, usually a dog.
    • Digging holes throughout the yard, in search of grubs.
    • Damage to golf courses, crops, chicken coups, bee hives, etc.
    • Individual skunk fell down a window well, and is stuck.

    goodbye
Hey all! Got my first mech mod yesterday.
    excitedsmiley.gif
Same friend that gave me the Dead Rabbit RDA gave it to me. It's a Glas clone. It appears to be working ok, but really needs to be cleaned up. The machining is nice and smooth but the contacts have some corrosion on them, and I just want to make sure everything is ok before I use it. Any suggestions for cleaning it up? Thanks!

    Hi Rob

There are lots of different ways to keep your contacts clean. A very easy one is to use one of those pencils with an eraser on the end....you'll be surprised at what it gets off...

Here's a vid which may help....

    Noice!:thumb:

I don’t know much about mech maintenance but I’ve read people say a really, really fine sand paper lightly sanded over the contacts with the aim to remove the corrosion but not scratch or remove any of the plating/metal on the pin. You may want to hold off for someone who actually knows. Edit, go with the pencil eraser suggested above, that sounds way better.

Editx2 - Mouse pad, I like that. Forget the sandpaper, I have no idea what I’m talking about.:pop:

Can you take a shot of the other side of the button cap? I’d like to see what that looks like.

For anybody in the know, if you zoom in you can see a corrosion on both end caps, is that from a battery or is that from the copper? It looks green like copper but structured like how car battery contacts get. It’s also around that vent hole, like something was directed out of it. Would that be from sitting in a cupboard etc with a battery in it for a long amount of time or is that natural wear and tear? Anyone ever see a mod that’s had a battery vent in it? That’s a dark liquid right?

That's nothing to worry about could have been caused in lots of different ways. The best thing to do with any new 2nd hand mech is to disassemble it as much as you can and clean everything you see before putting it back together again....

    Hope that helps :)

This makes sense.....here's what toledo exterminators say...
    • Individual skunk fell down a window well, and is stuck.

First read through I got a skunk fell down the well and is stuck and thought "wow, the expense of digging a new well all because of one skunk".

As to cleaning contacts, I've gone with a very fine sandpaper on contacts and found it does well. Not much force as you don't want to grind the metal down (with a fine finishing sandpaper that shouldn't happen anyway) but that and a buff after seems to get them looking all nice again.

On another note, I've been watching the bad Luna the last few days to see how it would behave. Did an internal inspection and everything looked OK, but I can't be sure I know enough to draw that conclusion other than it all looked clean and connected. The button looked clean from what I could see. So I put an atty on it, put in a battery, and have been keeping a close eye on it. So far it's doing well on probation. Which is good, but now I feel sorta guilty as if this one remains stable I have 2 Lunas as they never asked for the return of this one. I guess the scare and aggravation and time spent dealing with it offset the price, but I'm still uncomfortable about it.

OTOH, having 2 in rotation is nice, and I really liked the colors and resins on the bad Luna. The good Luna is pretty too, but now I have the best of both. Fingers crossed it doesn't act up again.

Anything for the kids ya know?:thumb:

The reason I asked to see the button was to see if it had any hole, you have two on the inside, mine only has one, but neither have any on the outside so I’m guessing they’re expecting it to go through the seam of the button and the cap. I’ve not actually blown through my button cap to see what the resistance is though. Seems sketchy, especially if under pressure the button seats up real well to the button cap housing sealing it more.

And then looks like the top is solid. They put fake vent holes that do absolutely nothing on mine. It’s gonna pay to be proactive on this one homie. Stay safe.

If you like the KRMA, consider a Haku Venna as well. The YFTK clone is excellent and for me just edges out the KRMA, which is also a great design.

If you ever want a dual coil that gives great flavor with air coming from the top routed under the coils the Relaod X clone (pretty sure it was Ulton) is another sound choice, and was only around $8 on FT. Some authentic owners actually like the way the air design came out on the clone over the original (it's not a 1:1). It's the only dual coil RDA I have that gives really good flavor and not just lots of cloud with only modest flavor. Any bottom air RDA seems to do well, but this design isn't leaky like most of them.
