Maybe that used to be the case. Not so much any more. Who will keep your money in your pocket or who will turn the entire state into a nanny state and dictate what values they believe you should live by, and the list goes on and on. People no longer vote for the greater good they vote for what is better for themselves. Or they they have the audacity to believe they know what is better for me than I do and would love to take away my right to choose how to live my life or express myself openly. (yes I live in the bible belt and it sucks)

I live according to my own ideals. I speak what should be, in order to show how everyone should think and not just a few.

We should fight, if we are to fight, for what is absolutely right - against those who are wrong.

No one has the right to dictate how another should live.. nor does anyone have the right to demand another live according to their own ideals (this is speaking on the bible belt comment..)

However, we do as a nation have to decide in what direction we want to see our country move in, and then work together in order to effect that...

In different areas, there are different ideas and different priorities .. so often it's more difficult to take all into consideration and come to common ground - but it must be done all the same.

There is a difference between demanding others live according to ones ideals, and trying to decide what direction our nation should take as a society.

I think we are at a cusp in our nation... and I don't see it moving in a good direction. There are too many people trying to decide absolutes for others, as you mentioned, rather then trying to sit down and determine the best route for us all to take together, as a society.

If you want society to quit 'dumbing down" throwing a widening net of restrictions and taking away choice is not the way to go about it. If you take choice out of the equation you take away the reason to think for yourself. If you don't think for yourself your reasoning stagnates and dies, you become completely apathetic a have no will of your own.

I agree in part, and disagree in part. :) I'll leave it at that for here.

I do love you.

I agree for the most part. I am a true pragmatic and do not believe as a nation we will ever be a true society again. Hell we don't even look at each other in the eye anymore while conversing face to face. I have one friend I literally had to ask her if she wanted to have lunch with me or her phone. She laughed until she looked up and realized I was serious. I love her dearly and was glad when she put her phone up because I would have left if she hadn't.

I likely agree with you... but at the same time if we don't become a true society again - we are sunk.

Well that's nothing like sweater puppies at all, which while sexist, still has a pleasant connotation. Shouldn't we call the lung escargot or lung snails?
Lung snails has a nice ring to it if not a pleasant image. Brings to mind Michael's coils. Yuck
