The other app that is good for working out coil resistance (and Ohms Law related questions) is vape Tool.
That looks like a fine app. I am new to phone apps. If you say it's a good one I will get it. :thumb:

Y'all are going to get a good laugh out of this. Please do, we need more laughs these days!!! And I'm always happy to bring the fun. :D

After fending off everyone, for years, who told me "you need a smartphone" I finally bought one a couple weeks ago. I was at the 2007 SanFran Macworld conference when Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone. Thought it was cool. But I never wanted one cause for me it was too much like being on-call ala the pager I used to carry 24/7/365.

FF to our current times with everyone doing "contactless" everything I figured "it's time SMT". So here we are, smartphone and I.

I still prefer using a Mac with a screen that has actual, you know, real estate. Although I am used to my little iPhone now. And man, I do love the camera!!! :D

Hi Cloud!!! Nice to hear from you. Hope your test comes back clean and your Pops is doing well.

Your VV hilo fused clapton ni80 is actually 28x2 (core)/35 (wrap).

To figure this out I forced myself to learn how to use the Steam Engine Wire Wizard tool. If I am off, I know our dear @AngeNZ will kindly let me know. ;)

So then.... 3 wraps will give you ~0.25Ω (w/2.5 ID) or 0.3Ω (w/3 ID).
But ...... look at your mod to make sure that is the resistance.

The fast and easy way to figure this out on your own is simply to wrap like say 5 wraps, screw that on your deck, then read the resistance on your mod. If it's too high take off a wrap or two and reread the Ω's. Too low, add a wrap or two. Very simple.

Some use the Steam Engine Wire Wizard tool but I find that too, ummm... cumbersome for my brain. Here is the tutorial I used for learning wire wizard tool. Ange is an expert with using it. :D

Personally I hate all that left-brained mumbo jumbo. I just improvise until I find my happy place. Simple and easy. K.I.S.S. for me.

Hey there Cloud!
Is it a dual core fused clapton (2*28/35)? Also does the spool have an Ohm's/ft rating like Coilology wire does?

SMT's post just covered pretty much everything. The other app that is good for working out coil resistance (and Ohms Law related questions) is Vape Tool.

Thanks for the replies guys,I've visited so many websites, read so many guides and my head is still spinning hehe

This is what exactly is written on the roll of wire:

Fused Clapton Wire Ni80

10ft 2.35Ω/ft 28ga*2(=)+35ga

Apart from that no info, just VandyVape logo,Made in China blah blah.

Think I'll go with what @ShowMeTwice said,I'll start with 5 wraps and see how it goes, depending on the result i will add or subtract wraps.

cheers,thanks again.

p.s. apart of the fact that i suck at the techy techy stuff these meds i am taking leave me really drowsy and a bit more stupid (never thought that would be possible hehe)

The only reason I didn't get an Aegis squonk mod was the width. But @Anise has one and she has lil hands so that solves that problem :w00t:

Toppers:
the Cthulhu 1928 is more MTL. Largest airflow hole is 2mm. The Holic may be slightly looser. Galaxies will be right up your alley

The BEST RDA at FT with regard to easy building/wicking (traps 28ga no problem), along with the best flavour in an RDA I've tried is - hands down the Haku Venna RDA. It's a perfect beginners bf RDA - deep well, hard to oversquonk, and very smooth airflow. For me wide open it's tight restricted lung / loose MTL. I actually found it a smidge too tight (I'd gone dark side by then)

I love my Geekvape Aegis Squonk and its not too big for my hands. It is a little heavy but not too heavy to use comfortably. But my favorite squonk is my Pico Squeeze 2. Perfect size and weight.

I do love my iPhone camera too. Having a great camera with you all the time opens up tons of possibilities. Been a photographer since I was 17, and I see photos literally everywhere I look.

    Morning shinies ;)

First coil i am making so i want just single and no fancy stuff, how many turns should i make so it comes out around the 0.25 ohm mark?
doesn't have to be 0.25 ohm exactly, between 0.25 and 0.30 would be good.

Tried looking around but haven't been able to figure this part out.

Hope everyone is doing ok,sending you all my love from sunny Spain

Are you aiming for 0.25 ohms because that is what your pre-made coils were? If so, ignore the resistance and just aim for a similar amount of wraps with your wire, like SMT suggested. Unless of course, you are using an unregulated mod.

I second the Vape Tool app. It's so much easier to use for fused claptons etc than Steam Engine is. The Pro version is well worth the upgrade if you like using it

    take care
