those harbor freight scissors will work just as well as those city slicks scissors.
Use the Exocet wicking method and cut the tails off in line with the outside of the deck and then prime and gently tuck the ends back through the fill ports.... not entirely.....just so it completely covers any gap. That works for me

Any mod has an Ohm meter nowadays. If you want a separate device you can build on, there are several. I use a Coil Master 521 Tab and I like it. But it's pretty old, they may be better models out there.
I use 29 and 28g round Kanthal wire, 2.5 mm ID, ~1Ω; I like it at 10-12 watts or so.
Use this tool for your first builds and pay attention to the heat flux settings. You want to stay in the green. Good luck!
