Yup....defo seems like a mismatched thread. Just tried mine on the mod with the 18650 cap on and then checked that the Ether threaded drip tip assembly screwed right down through both top caps...

May be time to contact the vendor!! You're sure you've not got a cross thread? The threading definitely looks different on your Ether assembly compared to mine. Sorry you're having this hassle :)

Just got it from element.
Looks almost like mine has nearly double the threads.....
And it was the 21700 top.
Have to get the box out to try the 18650, but since the standard abyss 510 fits fine it seems unlikely its the mod.

I agree....very unlikely. Looks like a mistake was made machining your Ether assembly. Time for an irrate email to Element Vape I think :(

Here are the 2. You can see that the ether seems to have more threading.

This is as far as it will thread.

Your Ether nut is definitely the wrong guage. See how on yours there is no lip, whereas on Charlie's and mine there is a thin lip?

It must be some type of manufacturing error because there is no part that would fit. The 18650 and 21700 top caps both have the same gauge female threads and your Ether nut's male threads won't fit either.

Hopefully Element will send you out a replacement asap.

Yup....it starts out as a quite thick solid cylindrical piece then it's turned to form the thin end and then threaded via the other direction. Turning/machining error for sure....
