My youngest daughter is very good at sewing. At least she impresses me. When she was in high school and taking sewing classes, I had to take her to JO Ann Fabrics to get her supplies. It was always slow getting fabric there. You had to take a number and wait for them to call it.
Yes, I have been through that scene many times. If the store is busy you might as well get a coffee somewhere while waiting your turn

It’s all different now. The newer sewists use PDF patterns. A lot print them out, those of us with zero patience for that shoot them to a projector and project right onto the fabric. Use a cutting mat and a rotary cutter rather than scissors. Construction is done on a serger rather than sewing machine.
Just these improvements slash the time to make something in half. Also can use the same patterns for every size, unlike how paper can only be cut to one size. And the patterns go from XXS to 5X, some even higher.

It’s a lot more expensive now than it ever used to be though. There’s no way I can make stuff as cheap as I could buy it - I mean, cheaper than Macy’s, yes, cheaper than Target, not unless the fabric is clearance.

So damn well put. That's about how I started smoking I guess :(
    (the sins of the fathers...)

You my dear Ma'am, really really really need to take a serious look at the Jackaroo pod....it's got it all....tank in a pod form. I mean look at that airflow holes (and there's more on the other side)...smooth and silent as a cool breeze softly lifting your hair as you meander through a meadow...like ;)

It's bad enough I want another z80 with the suede finish, so I'm not looking!

I used to love going to fabric stores. Flipping through the pattern books and hoping the pattern I chose would actually be in one of the big drawers that housed them all. Drooling over the fabrics. Finally settling on what I wanted, carrying the bolt up to the counter, and then admiring how the saleslady (it was always a lady) expertly flipped the bolt, measured out the length, and then slid the scissors across to cut my piece for me. I'd go home with my booty feeling rich.

Yarn stores were even more thrilling. Very dangerous places, walletwise.

With me, it's Michael's or Hobby Lobby and beads. I make rosaries and I could spend hours there just putting together bead combinations in my head. I rarely buy them there, because at their prices, I can't sell them cheap enough to turn a profit. I usually buy from Ebay or Alibaba.

    Somewhere between here and there
Good morning shiny people. Recovering from a sinus infection that really got me down. I had to go get antibiotics. Started out as a sinus cold a week or so ago and just when I thought it was getting better then it got worse.

On the shiny subject, I have the Mixx coming for a review. I know it's old news to most here but I never did get around to trying one so requested one for a review. I ended up liking the Dead Rabbit R tank very much and went ahead and ordered a few packs of the rebuild kits for it with the mesh strips and pre-cut cotton.

Good to hear you're recovering. Eucalyptus oil is great for helping clear your sinuses out after the infection settles down, or even used with your antibiotics. Magic stuff.
