There used to be so many people posting on vape forums but not so much anymore. It’s not just on this forum either.
Where did the majority of those people go? I remember that if I missed one day of keeping up with new posts I’d be behind by so many pages that it was hard to keep up.

What do you think the reason is? Is it because it’s gone mainstream or everyone is buying disposables or the hobbyists like many of us here no longer are as interested because they’ve found their “niche”.
There appears a lot of new members posting but it doesn’t appear that they make it to these types of long standing threads? Etc?

I’d love to know what your thoughts are in the mass exodus from vape forums.

THIS! I remember the days you speak of. You could sit at ECF for hours trying to try to catch up with your regular threads. When I joined in 2012, vaping was still kind of new. So many of us came here to learn how to do it properly so we were not victim to the brick-and-mortar guy who knew next to nothing about the products he was selling.
We learned the best mod (for me back then I loved the Vamo) we learned the best RTA, mine was Taifun. We learned the best and worst cotton to put in it. The best wire to use, etc etc. We chatted about what was best to use to build a coil, some used a drill bit, and then someone invented a wrapping device. We learned about Mooch and we all followed his advice. It was a great time because there was so much to learn and we taught each other. Someone was always there to answer a question when you were learning all of this.
Then we got it down, we all got to the point where we knew how to wrap a coil, and knew where to buy the best cotton or rayon. The hobby (as most hoobies do) became old and stale. Many left when Roxy was bullied by ECF and they went to Underground.
I check in daily but am done reading up before I even finish my first cup of Joe. I have moved on to other hobbies now and just want to "not smoke" I use drop-in coils, on old-school devices that I know are tried and true.

It must’ve been before my time when that incident occurred.
I think you hit the nail on the head with thoughtful take on it.
But there is definitely a small group of people that still enjoy it as a hobby like myself and probably many more on the Shiny thread.

We did have soooo much fun learning everything we could about vaping and vaping safety. And you’re so right about how people helped so many just beginning to vape like me. I’ll always be so grateful to all the people who helped me and continue to help me. There’s always something more to learn for me anyways. It was fun!!

Still I’m glad that people like you still come by and give a shout out or offer some great vape advice!!

FDA is at fault for alot of it as well. Many shops and companies shut down and those that remained cater to the disposable crowd.

I miss the days that there were several rebuildables launching a week.
Now it seems like every few months something drops so there is not much to discuss anymore. And as a result the competition and innovation seem to have fallen off.

I think some people went back to smoking or quit everything. When I started in 2009 about all there were available were cigalikes and we tried different materials to try to get better wicking. Some people built box mods by stealing parts from cigalikes because you couldn’t buy connectors back then. I don’t remember his name but one guy used rca connectors. A lot of us jumped on the FDA scare bandwagon and bought everything we could on clearance. I think that pods and disposables have turned the market by appealing to beginners so they don’t have to learn about ohms law and building. Overall, I think it’s a combination of several things. Myself, I never plan on abandoning ECF. It has been a support group for me that I am very thankful for.

    Guilty ;)

Scooped up mods and rtas - and lots of nic - before it got gone.

For a variety of reasons, I don't like or use ANYthing that is disposable or not rebuildable. (Well, yeah, if the electronics die I'll probably not rebuild them :) ). Pods, podmods with built in batteries, nope.

I don't see our options growing any time soon, so the stuff I have, all rebuildable, will see me through.

Myself, I never plan on abandoning ECF. It has been a support group for me that I am very thankful for.

And ECF? Agree, I'm not going anywhere, either. Too many friends made over the years I've been aboard.

I hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day weekend!

I finally got around to building the THC Solo v1.5 and it’s got a definite thumbs up from me. The original was meh but I’m really enjoying this version.

I also built a Variant RDA that’s been sitting in my stash for a long time and it’s not a bad RDA it’s just not as good as so many other RDAs I have.

I’m having buyers remorse spending all that money on the Reload Essential. It’s really an MTL atty with a proprietary 510 drip tip. The quality and machining is top notch but it’s just not to my liking or my vaping style. The tin that it comes in is really nice as is the tools included. So if any MTL vaper out there wants to send me a BO then I’m open to it. What a mistake on my part. Remind me to stick with either the RDAs that I have or if I’m going to spend money then buy something under $30.

Actually I need you Shinys to curb my enthusiasm for buying more RDAs. I have a million and still end up just using a few of my favorites. I feel like I’m addicted to buying RDAs like some kind of compulsion. I need an intervention!!!

UPDATE: I changed my mind about the Reload Essential. I found an 810 adapter in the accessories bag so now I don’t have remorse except that it was way too expensive for what you get.

Here’s the polished stainless steel THC Solo v1.5.

I caved and installed my air conditioner. In the process, I kneeled on my eyeglasses (warped the frame and the lenses flew out). Felt like a dunce, but had a good laugh.

Managed to repair the eyeglasses and then 3 attys were cleaned and rewicked. Now having a drip and getting nicotine levels back up where they belong.

That's nice looking gear. Must admit I've never taken a hit on something with a big drip tip like that. MTL to the core.

Yeah, it could have been a pain (literally and figuratively). I'm thankful it wasn't that big a deal.

I'd say you live and learn, but maybe I should say to err is human, given this isn't the first time it's happened:lol:

I've had my moments in my lifetime. The older I get, the more wise I become. The "wise" comes from doing the whoopsie slower...LOL!!

That’s what’s great about vaping- there’s a million ways to vape and whatever works is great.

That could’ve been disastrous if you couldn’t repair your glasses!! I’m glad you were able to fix them.

I also caved but it was yesterday. It was 90F in Norwood (13 miles south of Boston) and it was very sticky and steamy so it was definitely the right time to get the ac in the window. Wish I had central air. I’ll always regret not having that installed in my house while I was working and had the money to do it. So now it’s just noisy window units but at least they keep me cool!

Central air is almost universal here in Texas. Window units can't usually keep up, unless the place is small. I've had my ac on for a couple of weeks now, not that it's been that hot (for Texas), 80s to low 90s, but the humidity is horrible, in the 90% range at times. We've had a lot of forecasted rain that doesn't pan out. I think these pseudostorms just put more humidity into the air. We have a chance of storms, possibly severe, tonight, with a tornado watch. Right now it's thundering but no rain.
