If you give it another go, I'd be curious to know how you like it.

I've got a couple of his tutorials for vertical coils on ELR bookmarked so I can give it a shot eventually. Edit: This is the best one I found. Maybe it would be useful to you as well. I guess I can't link to it: https://forum.e-liquid-recipesdotcom/t/basic-coil-build-for-steam-crave-rdta-v-2/139429

    Thanks!

I would have thought it would be a lot harder to avoid dry hits with 1 less wick tail, but it sounds like it's well worth the effort then (to learn, I mean).
Hi, no|ah, I hope you are well!
I did try a new vertical build in my Aromamizer which was performing a bit better than my previous attempts but I still wasn't getting flavor that was as good as some of my other RTAs.
I'm sure it is my wicking that is at fault but I put it aside again a bit ago and haven't given it another go since.
I do have pics of Session's builds saved from the ELR forums so will have to give them another look and then try again to see if I can get it working better for me.

I hope you are enjoying yours!

Hi gloop. I'm well thanks, hope you are too.

At first, I had issues with mediocre flavor as well. Thinning the wick tails further made a big difference. Positioning the coils as close as possible to the air intake (and slightly higher) had a significant impact too.

FWIW, here's a picture that helped me in particular (I zoomed in a bit):

I thin the tails even more than that, and (surprisingly) never had issues with flooding.

I'm enjoying it quite a lot. The draw is very nice, and dual coils with low wattage make for a cold aromatic vape that's nice for a change.

Good to hear that you got it dialed in!
I have the air hitting about in the middle of the coils so will play with that a bit and also see if I can move them out any more, I think they are closer to the posts right now.
I was concerned that I didn't have enough wick covering the deck but perhaps I have a bit too much.
Thank you for sharing those tips on what has worked better for you :)

edit: tried to take a couple of (wet!) pics but they aren't very good.
    Here they are anyway,

I went with a spaced coil this build, previous were contact.

You're very welcome. Happy to try and help.

Looks good to me, but I tend to thin maybe ~20% more (I like the very ends esp. thin). It seems a bit fussy about length as well.

Bringing the coils closer to the intake seem to improve flavor using the 2 closest air holes, haven't tried with all 4 though.

Could well be that the other attys you're used to just have superior flavor of course. So far with the Aromamizer I do often feel I'm trading some potency for a little more nuance TBH.

Thank you once again, this looks to be very helpful

Yes, potency is a good description for what I find to be lacking most in my attempts so far.
I would also add that I don't think my palate is as refined as some folks so I might not even be able to discern the more subtle nuances of the flavors.

I'm not sure that I could pick up on more refined notes, but the most vibrant flavor that I've had to date was with a chimney coil build in an og Wotofo Serpent RTA.
The only problem with that was that the wicking wouldn't stay in position and would require frequent adjustments, most likely due to closing/opening the juice control when refilling.

I know what you mean. I use it mostly at night, while relaxing, or the subtleties tend to go over my head.

That's fascinating. Never heard of a chimney coil build. Coincidentally it looks like someone did one in the Aromamizer on PoTV. Would've thought it'd be awkward in this atty, but apparently not; I think I'll have to try it before long.

Yeah, I just called it a vertical build originally but someone else used the term chimney so I poked around some and was like, "Yep, I guess that's what it is!"

I also tried a chimney build (dual!) in the SMOK RBA head for the Baby Beast/Big Baby Beast after finding a video about it but my results were less than stellar.
