It can actually get even funnier. I worked for a large corporation years ago for about 10 years and they had pension plans so I ended up vested in it and get about $200 a month out of it. They withhold both state and federal taxes from it. I usually get them back when filing. Then every year I get a letter from the state tax authority telling me that I should not be having tax withheld from that plan as it is untaxable income. I call the pension plan and they tell me that the State of California requires them to withhold 3% by law of the amount paid.

Not tax related but an actual conversation I had with a government agency made me realize just how dumb the while thing can be.

My license had expired and I was about to fly on a business trip. Needed to have a valid ID.

Went to DMV to renew, had SS Card, old license, other forms of ID, thought wouldn't be a problem.

Woman at counter requested a Birth Certificate, which is 1 thing I didn't have. She said I needed to prove who I am to renew.

Showed her my SS card, expired license that at the time was on that ID card. She said I couldn't use the expired ID as it was expired.
Keep in mind it had my photo and SS number on it, which I pointed out. No dice, expired.

I asked why I needed another ID. She said I had to prove who I was. Standing in front of her, with a photo, I had to prove I existed.

I asked if I ceased to be simply because my ID expired.

She said according to state law, yes.

So I had to get my Birth certificate from NY, which simply required my mother's signature, on a form, mailed back. They then mailed the damn thing to me, sight unseen.

Wait for new years sales, then decide. I'm waiting on the Drop to come down in price or a good sale. They should have had a solid silver option, I'd already have it.
I ordered the Drop on Black Friday when GB had a flash sale. It showed up today. Gotta love those slow boats from China

Forcing people to show their Birth Certificates has become big business in Indiana. You can go online now and order a copy and they will ship it right out for only $25! It's either that or go to the Health Department office in the county where you were born and wait around for half a day. Government has found a way to tun bad customer service into a profitable venture.

I don't understand. A birth certificate doesn't even have a picture on it. How is that better id than a drivers license, expired or not?

Online sales usually on charge sales tax if they are in your state or have a physical presence in your state. You are supposed to report the unpaid sales taxes on your state income tax return if your state has an income tax...

Doesn't everyone report them and pay them?
EightVape is in Las Vegas and I am in NY- I questioned them on that in a chat as when I 1st started ordering from them I was not charged tax- and they just stated that they always charge sales tax, when my more recent orders were taxed- I didn't think they should be charging tax on my NY order.
Breazy is about the only other vendor that charged me sales tax, but I understood that as they are in NY.

Wow.
There may have been a fee, can't remember. Just amused me how much easier it was to get a birth certificate than to renew an I'd that needed it...

Thankfully you remembered that you needed to renew before you tried to get on a plane

Nvm.. I was slightly wrong.

NY law is slightly different - they claim physical presence but go on to state that means going to New York for two days a year (no matter what type of visit that is, basic tourism counts) by any owner or employee... or have an affiliate of your business that has a physical presence - even if it's not your physical presence it still counts to whether or not your required to charge sales tax in the state.

In short, if your business has an affiliate that attends a conference every year in New York, your required to then charge sales taxes in the state of new york. Lol...because you then have a "physical presence".

I had to renew my VA volunteer's badge. Every time, it requires fingerprints and social security card and driver's license.
