Wow, I'm glad I told you not to listen to him. I knew he was typing up a speech like that. Vader feeds off the shinyitis weakness of others.... And I'm not entirely convinced that he isn't quietly accepting kickbacks from the manufacturers.....

A bottomless pit, indeed, Lord Vader.:lol::lol:

If it would help anyone, I could discuss the bankruptcy process that occurred when we rather rapidly and emergently moved to Tucson in the middle of the housing crisis. It wasn't fun and we had to rent for 7 years. I would prefer not to do that again. The amount of paperwork and lawyers fees and etc. I told the husband to just shortsale it and take the loss, but our bank wouldn't do it, so he tried rehabbing it. Someone got a very nice house at a very low price, but living within ones shinyitis means.... Really has to be the way to go.

And no, they won't come and take your mods and your stuff, during a bankruptcy (apparently our stuff was too "lame" for them to bother) but it is one of the worst and most annoying, humiliating things to go through. Not at all fun, wallet-drainer Vader...

That was before church actually started.
Honestly not a fan of our old church, too big. Like the little country churches my father-in-law had when he retired. Intimate and far more honest.

I don't like big churches either. .

Last time I waked into a church the ground started trembling and opened up . Barely made it out alive :D
Heh, well once upon a time.
Before we followed her dad I taught 1st grade Sunday school, ushers, Audio/visual, lead small groups and served on a committie to reopen another. Also occasionally volunteered, and did computer house calls.
After 2 years I grew to dread Sundays.
You can be called to serve, but you shouldn't become a slave.
Everyone is different, at different spots, believe different things .The maddening attempt to bring everyone together by beating them into submission is futile.
Come as you are, when and if you're ready. I got ya covered either way. :)

I don't enjoy church either. For one, the husband's family keeps wanting him to be a minister, ever since he got sober and stopped his daily felony. I kept pointing out I needed a regular sleep schedule, and that while as a social worker I am "equipped" to deal with crisis, I am most definitely not "equipped" to act like a preacher's wife, 24-7. Maybe a Baptist church where if I grew psychotic, I could pretend I was speaking in tongues or something.

I find I do my best communing with my creator at peaceful moments, when I'm not surrounded by those annoying "human beings" crammed into a pew. Really the only service I've enjoyed was a Quaker service and that was more like an AA meeting, with potentially less flawed human beings. A service where you sit, and then talk calmly and nicely about God and whatever, then let someone else have a turn.

Whenever we pick a church, the master of ceremonies can just TELL the husband has practically memorized the bible, and we always get roped into "doing stuff." It's a real turnoff, I must say....

Why is this necessary?
Seriously, why?

Eh, attempting to force someone into the ministry is not a good idea. The point is to be called into service. If he's not interested there's obviously no shame. Leaders needn't be in front of everyone.

The best service I ever attended was at a McDonalds. There doesn't need to be a sermon, finger waving, or judgement. All that's needed is willingness, even slight.

By the way, the best sermons are those that contain action, not words, and include everyone. Non-believers shouldn't ever be excluded from basic tenets like kindness, respect and love. They should never be judges or told they've got a reserved seating in hell.

Ok, I gotta stop.
buy something damnit.

I think there can be a place for it, for some.

Fortunately, I have enough faith in my creator to believe that if I needed to go to church, I would go. I have found that many people with true faith don't need a) a creed, at least one written by someone else b) may find other ways of expressing their faith c) often do that, and don't talk about it much and d) my most valuable college class was in Comparative Religion. I read a ton of spiritual texts at high speed and noted the similarities. I came away with, "Above all, just don't be a dick." It's kind of my live by motto.

Which also includes the fact that many, many very spiritual people enjoy organized religion as well. Which is perfectly fine with me, if they're just living and doing their best to live by the principle, "Just don't be a dick.... " Which for the most part, religions try to do, within their faith and cultural principles and etc.

I don't think it's going to end..... More is better, right?? LOL, kind of the point of this thread.

There needs to be some "prove it" clause with the wattage. Seriously. I mean.... A lot of folks don't know they are being ripped off and it's dangerous... Sigh.

I agree... but it's not because they are following HIS lead.
I'm gonna bow out, mainlu because this is starting down a road I feel too strongly about.
I believe we are in the same page though.
Bit I really gotta stop or I will offend someone somewhere.
