Had such a problem with it wanting to unwind when I made it.
Any tips?

Over twist an extra quarter of the way to compensate for the springiness. There is also a way of overwrapping by one wrap and pulling on a leg until it unwraps the extra wrap. Hard to explain without showing in person.

I prefer mine spaced.
I wrap mine tight as if for contact coil, then pull it way out to like .5 mm between wraps.
Then compress back down and twist tight. Ends up with a small spacing so the vapor can escape the middle.
Doesn't seem as springy when finished either.
Seems everyone does it a little different.
