On a side note, I've been following a few of the reviewers who test MRE's [Meals ready to Eat], and some of the US rations are really quite impressive. And I didn't realise that instant coffee was a product of the war years, initially designed for the troops.

They've actually gone downhill slightly.
The older MREs were actually better.
They're also designed for high caloric demands, and because of this can render the atmosphere around a group that has been eating them unbreathable.

They're due to ship the 29/11/2018 I believe.
So take your pick, lol.
Crud, too close to Christmas. Guess I’ll decide next year about getting one. FT is showing 10/31, but we know they’re about as accurate as Usps when it comes to time estimates. Oh well

Either the military sent the worst MREs they had to Nola after Katrina, or they’re all pretty nasty.

Momentary excitement dashed. Guess I’ll have to focus on the ammit mtl rta

I don't do pre-orders any longer.
The last one I got in on was the original Ammit through Breazy.
I would've gotten sooner if I had waited, and just ordered when they came in.
About 3 weeks sooner. I was not a happy camper.

First off. It's what was sent to NOLA.
There are lots of "MREs" made for the public that are used by FEMA and can be found in surplus shops, survivalist shops, etc. that are not the same as we are issued.
Many parents would buy these for their children to bring on Boy Scout outings in my son's old troop and they were horrible. Parents were always mad they weren't as good as the ones my son and I would bring, lol.
They had theses animal cracker like cookies that had chemical taste.

Many companies make them and package them like military issue ones to sell more.

Back then, ours had freeze dried strawberries and peaches.
Packages of Brach's caramels, chicklets gum, chocolate bars, Tasters Choice coffee, and the ever present miniature bottle of Tabasco Sauce, among other stuff.

The newer tan ones aren't as good, but still not bad.

Here's a French RCIR menu from 2004

The first column is an appetizer, followed by 2 entrées

The Russian ex-military guy living here told me of all dried crap rations during soviet time and canned crap after. He hasn't seen a ration since the early 2000s though so maybe they've raised their standards.

Nope.
They're mostly pate's and resemble dog or cat food in taste, smell, and consistency.
Worst of all, they come in a box that is impossible to pack efficiently and they're so heavy they're better suited as a weapon than a meal.
They also have tea light candle heaters, lol.
