been thinking about getting a slow cooker...the instant pots look great.

Last year for black friday I saw a handful of women almost get in a fist fight over a pallet of them at Canadian Tire.

Then I went next door to walmart and there were half a dozen pallets and not a ghost in the store.

people do similar things here too now. £100 off a giant TV and war erupts. i avoid all situations like that and shopping in general.

Slow cookers are awesome. Just set and forget. Given the time required to cook, they do require a bit of planning – but it is hard to beat a slow cooked meal. Look for one with a ceramic pot for best results. The larger the better!

The Instant Pots are great as well. But for slow cooking, I’d look into a dedicated slow cooker. I ditched my microwave years ago and use the Instant Pot to reheat most leftovers. So much better and worth the extra time needed. Microwaves just suck the life out of food!

Good morning shinies consider yourselves liked, loved, etc I just do not have time to icon it up. Not that I need to really.

Drinking coffee on a small cutting board with all my mods on it (carpet, plus no actual furniture YET, gonna make the husband bring me up some end tables. A spill would be catastrophic.

Yesterday was my version of like, orientation hell, I managed to send myself toward the wrong site and had to turn around and was late. God. I'm sure they all think I'm an idiot. However, I will note it is very hard to learn medical software when they change the template and NO ONE gets it, etc. We have a training on Wed, it's so bad, what they did. At least I was not alone in my errorz…..

Settling in oven fixed (it was not plugged in) and etc. I ate too late but I am finally AT LAST (yesterday I was at another location than my real site) I did do 20 minutes of yoga and am so glad I DID. Because it was really hard. Gonna shoot for an hour today and then like, hole up in the apartment, I organize it a bit more each day.

I still haven't even had time to CHARGE my new batteries! A pod win is coming today but I will not get to see it because well, I just won't. It's all good though, a little easier every day. Just don't want to get manic with all the changes but I think some early waking is normal (for me) under stress.

Also had a vaping dream and have not smoked since my "four of stress" last week. I haven't had time to buy a pack in any case. I also dream when stressed so TRYING to enjoy it. LOL.

Walmart doesn’t sell the same model, so there’s not so much love for theirs.

Black Friday, or otherwise holiday sales, are the time to get them. I got my 8 qt duo for $80, and then the 3 qt went on sale for about $45, and I used my cash back bonus so it was free to me.

I think I’ve made 99% of my food in those since I got them. Saved a fortune not buying frozen or fast food. I make my own yogurt too, and that saves a lot of money!

Canadian Tire and Walmart sell similar brands. Throw Best Buy Canada into that mix and you can now have competition for price matching. Always a deal to be found among those 3. Can’t remember what I spent on my Instant Pot but did buy it at Best Buy who matched the price plus an additional 10% off to Walmart.

Yeah... when I saw them they were the same brand. I forgot which but I think it was One Pot? They were literally the same box.

If you have a gas stove then better get a stove top pressure cooker. It's the "mech" of instant pots :D
I don't need my cookware of all things to be programmable (or message me on instagram) and, as we all know, electronics can suddenly die and then you have a very expensive laundry basket to keep your dirty knickers in.
PCs are usually very sturdy with a thick bottom, things you look for in a good normal pot anyways so you have an extra class A pot even when not pressurizing.

You can steam or cook rice in it as well, and my favorite - make stock in less than 12 hours.

There are pro’s and cons to either method. With a programable device, it is much harder to over cook which can happen even with pressure cooking. And as I stated, the Instant Pot is better at reheating leftovers than a microwave. Throw your leftovers in a microwave/dishwasher safe bowl, cover with tin foil and place in the Instant Pot for a couple of minutes. Comes out better than any microwave can pull off!

All this talk of slow cooking and Instant Pot think I am going to make myself a stew today. Cubed beef, can even be cheap cuts cause they will still come out tender in the slow cooker. Some veg, seasoning and beef broth. But instead of throwing potatoes in with the mix, I’ll cook them separately (most likely in the Instant Pot) then mash. Stew over mash Potatoes!! YUM!

One more thing - no matter if instant pot or pressure cooker - it makes using dried beans/lentils/chickpeas much quicker. Kicked all canned versions from my pantry after getting my PC. They're less than half the price, weigh less and taste a lot better (presumably because they aren't soaked in horse's piss).

Ya, not a fan of canned food – especially beans.

Something I have not tried but heard others swear by it is Sous Vide cooking

Expensive to get the equipment to do it properly. You need to maintain specific temps for long periods.

I guess you could put your meat in a ziplock and sit by the stove for a couple hours with a thermometre, but IMO too much trouble.

Although I did see a dragon's den device for $200 that you could use in any pot.

Also want to point out it hurts my hears every time I hear people call it soo-vee on masterchef.

That's pretty much for expensive cuts only. As Dom stated the equipment is expensive. I'm not talking about the wannabe immersion circulators you can find for like $120 but of the real thing you can make big portions in (more like $1500++).
Instead of those cheap-o things you might as well just

Yeah I tried that and it somehow worked. I cooked for 7 persons though and it was quite stressful to keep the temperature right. Wouldn't do again. I'd just pre-sear the meat, let cool down to room temp and finish in the oven all at the same time, much less mucking about.
