Although possible the enclosure is bonded together (glued), many are just screwed together allowing you to open it up and replace the drive.

It is of the bonded variety. Eh, I'll just get another. Now that I think of it, Time Machine was complaining about it a year ago. I told T M not to be so silly; it was much too pretty to be failing, but the scales have fallen from eyes. It is toast, at least for anything halfway important.
backups? 8TB raid 5 NAS. 1.5TB uploaded and encrypted with crashplan. 2 x 4TB drives which are rotated from NAS and kept in a safe in my workplace.

What are your storage needs? You can get a 1TB or 2TB USB powered drive fairly cheap -- I have a 1TB WD Passport drive that functions well for portable storage/backup. I've also had a 5TB seagate desktop expansion drive running for some years (has a separate power supply) -- it is connected to a Raspberry Pi that functions as a network available drive, Plex server, and a two-way sync for some of my cloud storage.
I just picked up a 6TB external for $120. Remember when a 256mb flash drive was a hundred bucks? Amazing times we live in, friends.
Many are uneasy storing their sensitive (or not so sensitive) data in the cloud, but just realize the same cloud storage solutions that your financial institution, medical industry and even your governments uses is the same cloud storage solution I use to store pictures of my cat!
