Man, I had a pretty crazy day but it was mostly good though. I am so caught up with my notes, I can't believe it. This was AFTER talking to the IT guy about my (hour long, so pretty deep I guess) knowledge of Dragon and would it suffice as far as compared to actual people who you dictate your notes to, they type them, and you sign them (many dollars.)
I kind of explained to the guy that I had peripheral neuropathy in my fingers, and so that made me HIGHLY motivated to make Dragon do all it could, what more it could do for more money, the fact that the newest Dragon is so easy to use that mid to low range computer users would have to be taught how to dictate and it is a skill and not always an easy one. I told him probably about 25% of users would not be motivated to use it, and probably might not be ABLE to (dictation is a hard earned skill) and they certainly wouldn't remember the billion and one commands and etc. I told him there would have to be Dragon superusers who could help and he was like, "I guess that's you," and I was like, no stick that training guy Steve on this he is SUPER good at computers and smart, I will teach him, he will educate me in return for what I DON'T already know, and then he can teach classes as part of his University. I would teach a dictation class as I happen to be good at me." He asked if it affected my workflow 50% and I was like, um, IT guy I am on week one and only now beginning to set up my superphrases and special words and those all take working memory but even now I am probably at 1/3 less and it pays for itself because when I am done, I see more patients, because I am not overwhelmed by notes. I expect it to go down to 1/4 or less if I get more functionality.
Then I offered to show him and he was all into and I was like, well... He was like but 'I'm chained to my desk" and I was like UM and he was like "Literally I have a broken ankle and crutches" and I was like "If you are in Sierra Vista I will come one day, I don't mind I'm sure my supervisor won't."
Anyway he is all enthused and whatever, and like, I was like, okay then. I explained my biggest issue with dictation services is that I feel, like a responsibility to my notes which is why I was dying without dragon, because I DON'T want someone typing for me, and I want to have "Total control" over my notes as they are 95% of what you get judged on. I also said some people would feel that way, some people would be "NO DICATION FOR me," and some would be in the middle.
But it is also INFINITELY cheaper and if you are good enough at it, it's no LESS FAST than talking to someone who is typing your notes, and in some ways quicker.
I got home. Storm. No Jaq B. No notification. I was here, there was a storm it was supposed to arrive by 6:30 no van.
I bet if I call and complain they say it blew away in the storm, I call BS on that one.
I also had a yogawakening because I cannot SAY how much I hate 6 am yoga. Lunch won't work. So, I was like, well, since you didn't THIS MORNING just try tonight, see how it works. If it works, you can DO That and like sleep in an extra hour or MORE in the mornings.
Apart from this brief 10 minute period when my body was like OMG what are you doing I NEED FOOD (which will be fine after my new schedule) it went GREAT.
I am all endorphiny now. Food will have to wait another half hour or so. But I am not stressed, as like, tomorrow I can get up at 6:15 instead of the dread hour of FIVE am where no one should be awake (if you ask me) and this should all go much better and I won't be rushed.
So, I guess the Jaq will arrive.... At some point.
