I remodel houses for a living. If you are not happy with the quality of the work that was done, definitely stick to your guns and demand replacement or repair. I see so much work that is done incorrectly it makes me sick. Also pay attention to any drywall that is bowed, especially in the ceiling, and specifically in garage areas. It might seem ridiculous (I think it is) but it's an unfortunately common thing to see bad framing (missing 2x4's) in these areas, particularly in homes built from the 70's to 2010. Might be worth the price of a responsible and reputable home inspector not recommended by the real estate agent. Just IMO of course.
A friend of mine had a house built about ten years ago. On several walk-
throughs, she mentioned that the living room floor had a bounce.
The builder assured her, once it was done, it would be solid.
When it was done and she took possession, it still had a bounce.
Not being in construction, she searched for possible causes and solutions. Turns out, there was no support over the span of the full basement.
She asked the builder and he told her, yeah, they can do that with floor jacks, but a lot of people don’t like how they look so we leave them out.
Seriously? I bet a lot of people dislike the look of panel boxes too, but you don’t just leave them out.
She had to take them to court.
