Another good buy. I'm on roll here. Don't buy much anymore, but when I do...it works. Long may that continue. Thanks @ShowMeTwice your persistence (or rather your patience in sharing) paid off. This one is a keeper.
She's the 24 DL. I have her on the smallest air inlet...might want to go one one smaller to get that wee bit more restriction. I see there's a 22 and 24 Dvarw. Does the air inserts fit both? I can get some MTL ones and drill it open.

Ah and hello to all you lovely people. Apologies that i've been lying somewhat low here lately...are crazy busy with the other hobby.

Don't know. It's in there. Didn't measure it. The next size up is 3.5, so my guess is the 3.0 is the smallest. I'll look for a 2.5.

Ah no..I loved that little thing. I lost mine walking the dog...still not really over it
    Glad for you though ;)

You are always missed. But you also know where to find us

I've got the DL FL ordered. That may give you a tad more restriction:

    plus:
$4.43 2PCS SXK Replacement Single Hole Airflow AFC Insert for Dvarw MTL FL 24mm RTA 2-pack - 1*2.5mm/1*3.0mm at FastTech - Free Shipping
    for the 2.5mm single hole

$4.43 2PCS SXK Replacement Dual Hole Airflow AFC Insert for Dvarw DL FL 24mm RTA 2-pack - 2*2.0mm/2*3.0mm at FastTech - Free Shipping

I trimmed the legs flush with the post, so I don't know if that means they are too short or long. I never really thought of leg length being a variable before.

As for wattage, I started at around 10w and I have it at 12w. I am not sure what is causing the popping sound, but I thought maybe it had something to do with my wattage not being right.

Try the wattage higher, see if it fixes it. Your cotton will swell more as it soaks in too, so that may also fix it.

All good. The more you know...

Good. Thinner eliquids require more wick, thicker--less. So far so good! '

Popping can be happening for several reasons. Here's a rather comprehensive list:

Atomizer Popping and Spitting: 11 Ways to Fix - eCig One

The rules (the Ohm's Law) cannot be defied. It doesn't matter if it's a drop-in coil or your own, the same wattage should be used. For 1Ω coil, I'd start low, say at 10 of 11 watts.

That's perfectly normal. Those coils are not made by NASA; also, different mods are often off by a bit. You're fine. 1.1Ω is within acceptable range.

I'm so proud of you! :toast:
Thanks. One day I hope to be a pro at this like you guys.

The final resistance of your installed coil depends on the final length of the wire used after you trimmed the legs (ohms per inch or cm). As long as you trimmed the legs flush, you're fine.

I'll introduce your to my nifty calculator later--for now you need to figure out why this coil is popping. Did you read the attached article about spitting and popping?

Oh, so I might have thinned it out too much?

Definitely a possibility. With cotton pads, they aren't as fluffy, so your wick may not have needed thinning - or you may just need more cotton in the coil. Give it some time to soak in and prime before doing anything.

I did. I am thinking that maybe I needed more cotton. At least I am not getting spitback or anything. No ejuice is coming up thru the drip tip. Just a weird popping or crackling sound.

Oh yeah, it's cotton that expands and rayon that shrinks right?

@AngeNZ , which Hastur do you like? I think they have a few different ones. I remember looking into the Mini for some reason when I first started doing research on RTAs.

Those who have the Hastur Mini all love it. @Katya and I went for the full sized Hastur MTL due to the 2.5mm id inserts it has. But the Hastur MTL mini RTA is still available at FT:
$23.74 Authentic Cthulhu Hastur MTL Mini RTA Rebuildable Tank Atomizer - 2ml / 304 stainless steel / 22mm diameter at FastTech - Free Shipping
    Airflow-wise the Mini has:
    Outer airhole options are 0.8, 1.2 & 1.4mm diameter
Two build deck airholes are equivalent to a 1.4mm diameter airhole.
or you can get larger deck holes:
$2.06 Authentic Cthulhu Replacement Deck Block for Hastur MTL Mini RTA (2-Pack) 2-pack - 1.6mm single hole / stainless steel at FastTech - Free Shipping

    Yep, you got it

I remember liking the logo on the chimney. The little squiggly monster thing. It looked adorable and murderous at the same time.

Did you check your coil before you wicked it? Did it glow heat up evenly from the center out? Did you strum it gently to make sure that it glows uniformly? Also, you have to make sure that your cotton wick fills the coil properly--if there are gaps between the coil and the wick, it may pop. But that's unlikely with cotton, which tends to expand when wet.

Are the wick tails trimmed properly and barely touching the deck? Did you fan them out like Phil does in his video? Not clogging juice channels? Sometimes the smallest things can cause a bit of turbulence. But all that will come with experience. You have to wick and rewick several times before you get it perfectly right. Patience, grasshopper. :D
