On the charger front.
Many moons ago i ordered this opus charger. It has a refresh option to revive older batteries. I believe mooch mentioned it on a live show way back.
Havent used it in a while but it did seem to help. Took like a day to refresh if memory serves.
Not sure if they are still available but there may be something similar.

No idea, but I've had a few that dropped below 3v and got binned. My guess is the chemistry inside is FUBAR and the voltage is dropping when resting.

And I've got a couple in that state that I haven't taken into town yet, so they can be guinea pigs
Talking about chemistry...you've got more between the ears than me. When you had a play with this tester, plz give me your thoughts ;)

I also heard if a battery's voltage falls beyond 3.0V (some say 2.5V), its time to chuck it...the internals has broken down to much. Even the salesman where I bought it said the same..he said he throws his batteries at 3.0V.
Again i thought this tester will test that for me.
Now thinking about that...what does that really mean?
I mean our mods shuts down way before that voltage. How does a battery even get to that low voltage?
The battery tester you bought will give you the battery voltage at X point in time (examples: 3.2V, 3.7V, 4.2V). It will give you what I would call a very basic IR reading similar to what a decent battery charger would give you.

From my understanding (take it with a grain of salt) if you measure the IR when a battery is fully charged (4.2V) you will get one IR reading. If you pull the battery from your charger at half charge you'll get a different IR. Test the battery when it's at 3.2V and you will get a completely different reading. From my understanding that is normal.

Regulated mods internal electronics have a low battery cutoff programmed into the board. Each manufacturer sets their cutoff differently. A DNA mod lets you set the battery cutoff via Escribe.

How can a battery get to 2.5V? An extreme example would be vaping a mech mod to well below what we would call a weak hit thus damaging the battery or worse. Although I doubt that anyone would get any kind of worthwhile hit below 3.5V. But we know there are dumb azz people out there.

Below was taken from: Is draining a Li-Ion to 2.5v harmful to the battery?

Lithium batteries undergo unwanted chemical reactions when discharged below 3V causing their internal resistance to be permanently and significantly raised. Their capacity will suffer as well, meaning that they won't accept the same amount of charge anymore. When such an over-discharged cell is "brought back to life", it will likely become chemically unstable, creating a risk of a short circuit developing inside the cell.

Even worse, assuming that you measured 2.5V at no load, your batteries have dropped even lower when they were being discharged and have subsequently rebounded to 2.5V after the load was removed.

The minimum discharge voltage varies between various sites, datasheets, etc. but 3.0V - 2.7V is an empirical value. If discharged under this voltage the battery may be permanently damaged.

To get the precise value of min discharge voltage, consult the datasheet of your batteries.

Ok need some help from yall that vape mtl.
I have always preferred dl so cant figure this one out.
Trying to make a long story short here...
My other half bought a pack of smokes again, i have had her try virtually everything i have. Including a nord with a 1.4 mtl coil and a 18mg. She is um picky.
She says they are all too wet. I had virtually given up when i picked up a disposeable for her. She likes it to the point ive had to get another cause she killed it lol.
I can live with this cause she is not on the stinkies.
I never liked salts, so is that what she likes?
For yall that mtl, are the salts a drier vape to you?
Id like to find a refillable etc but until i can find what it is that makes the diposeables good to her i feel id spend a small fortune....

Not to mention the disposable she likes is 16 bucks and lasted like 8 days.

Thoughts?
I have a friend that buys Juuls and I have tried to convert and she just says "it is not the same" and like your wife, she complains about the cost and the lack of it lasting long.

The storage voltage for a new (unused) 18650 battery should be between 3.5V and 3.6V (~15% charge).

I just checked a couple unused Samsung 25R's purchased on 2021-10-20 and both read 3.52V.

Checked 2 unused Molicel P26A's from 2021-05-28 and both are at 3.53V.

I check all the new batteries I have in storage (kept in a cool low humidity basement) every 3-4 months. If any drop below storage voltage I top them off. I haven't had to do that with new batteries (yet).

When I receive new batteries I check their voltages before storing them.

Just did a count. I have 18 batteries at full charge, lying waiting to be rotated. That's been going now for almost 5 yrs. I know its not best practise to store a battery at full charge, but I don't see any other way of doing it. They roughly lie in waiting for a week or two before use.
I have non in longer term storage.
Guess I should be investing in a steel ammo case or them battery safe bags :w00t:

I have 24 unused batteries in storage. They're kept in the same plastic carrying cases they shipped in from the vendor.

Currently I have 8 single battery mods (regulated and mech) in use. Those are running 18650's, 20700's and 21700's.

I have 16 batteries in rotation for those mods. Four are LG HG2's from 2017-05-25 and those only get used in regulated mods.

I recycle my batteries when they no longer hold a decent charge. Last year I recycled some from 2016. Also recycle any that I notice getting hot to the touch when charging. I never leave batteries charging unattended.

Have you tried using a juice that is higher PG? I think the original MTL and disposables used at least 50/50, but some of the Provari Fuel juices I had were more like 70 PG 30 VG. The coils were also closer to 1.8 if not a tad higher. I think the higher VG juices do seem more dense, so that might be what she is talking about when she describes a wet sensation.

    Morning shinies

My SM order still hasn't appeared on tracking yet....but I know from experience that it doesn't necessarily mean anything.

As far as batteries are concerned I keep a watchful eye on their performance. If they start draining to fast I'll bin them. However I don't take much notice from my charger readings except that a low voltage definitely correlates with a faster draining battery. Measurement of these things is only as good as the contacts of the measuring device. Presumably that's why @Mooch needs his testing setup.

Have a good day all

Oh.... @Hightech Redneck I think it a combination of higher Pg and salts. I make my own salts sometimes and I would say it is a bit of a dryer mouth feel. Good luck....you've definitely got to get your wife off the death sticks

Salts hit me differently, faster feeling of getting my nic, but it fades faster too. To me, higher PG is dryer. Some flavors - regular coffees and some nuts, like toasted almond- are dryer too.
I would try 50/50 and her desired nic % with 10% TFA toasted almond in both regular and salt.

I like to use salt for when I need a quick fix, first thing in the AM, times when I had to go without a vape for a while, and when I fell off the wagon and was really craving a smoke. For maintaining my nic levels through the day, regular nic is my preference.
    Hope that helps.

    Thanks
    Ill check those out.

You have any idea if its the salt that makes her say its a drier vape? I didnt like salts so cant speak to that.
For me salts aren't a drier hit, just smoother since there is little to no throat hit. Likely the flavor is just "wetter" & juicy. Maybe get her to try an ice version of whatever flavor she prefers. Ice/menthol feels drier to me.

I, too, was thinking that higher PG might account for her perception that the vape was drier.

I think people are too quick to recycle cells. We both know that if properly maintained they will last a lot longer than a year. I expect 5-6 years from a cell.

I use Sony/Murata VTC5D's as well. Even though Mooch rates the P26A's as best all around 18650 I suspect the actual difference between those and the VTC5D's is minimal. In my experience the VTC5D's hold a charge better than any other cell (including the P26A's).
