Hi Mak and welcome to the thread. Read what you posted here today. You are already a winner. Sticking with vaping for over 5 years and upgrading your gear and the ability to keep trying makes you a winner.

Great to hear that you found gear that works for you. Those last 2 or 3 cigarettes a day, especially for a long time smoker, are the hardest. It is more of an emotional and psychological addiction than a physical one. It is hard to give up your best friend. Keep exploring, find some juices that you love and can vape over an extended time. And stay engaged.

Think about whether you really want that cigarette and vape your brains out until the urge leaves. Can you get some higher level nic to vape for when you are feeling those cravings? That seems to help many get past those urges to smoke. WTA juice works for some people too.

You are doing fabulous. You really are. I bet your doctor thinks so too. Going from multiple packs a day to 2 or cigarettes a day is a major accomplishment.

Hang out here for a while, read back through the thread. There is a link a ways back that for the 1st Smoking thread and the read from the beginning through that summer of 2013 has lots of great stuff and insights on how several of us deal with vaping and smoking/not smoking.

Hello everyone.

Now to today...Yes I did smoke a analog today, However, only one so far. I find I smoke 2 to 3 a day on average unless alcohol is involved and my defenses drop.
I find one of the the best things to date for myself in equipment is the IStick 30watt with a Kranger sub ohm mini and the Melo tank. This thing hits like a beast!
If I am vaping and I still get the overwhelming urge to have a analog, I bump up the wattage/voltage to get an overpowering hit. It really helps. I found using a standard EGO type battery just did not have the kick I needed to get me over that urge.
I have only been vaping again for a couple of weeks and am working on that ADV juice and I think I have found it.
So, hello again and wish me luck. I think this will work this time even though I am still smoking analogs.

My brother-in-law was over here earlier today and dropped off a couple of boxes of things that my sister (only immediate family-now gone) put aside or left a list of for me. We both cried a bunch. I have gone through one old photo album of when my mom and her 5 sisters and 2 brothers were young, pre and post WWII. Did not recognize a lot of the people and there are no notes or writings on any of the photos.

The neatest thing - at some point in the 40s my mother had a head shot photo of herself printed on stamps, like postage. A whole sheet of them. I don't remember seeing that before from that time period.

I have not touched anything else. Can't deal with it today. Another thing to put aside for another day.
(((HUGS)))

i don't know how if i did i would put up wildly dancing banana's... this day marks 2 years off analogs and vaping strongly.:vapor::rickroll::banana::banana::banana::banana:
 Wowza, Congrats!

Hello everyone.
Let me tell you a little about myself. I have been smoking over 40 years. It is a habit I have been trying to break for at least 20 of them.
I started vaping Ecigs around the later part of 2008 when they first came out and started out with the Joyce 510 with a 280ma battery, this used an atomizer and cart. Old school compared to what is available today.
I have a drawer of equipment purchased over the years. Tried and failed so many times it hurts to admit it.
Probably like most of you, I have tired just about everything to quit, patch, gum, chantex, etc... None could get me over the hump.
The craving was just to powerful. Ecigs seemed to give me the advantage I needed though.

Good vibes! You can do it! :thumb:

Took me 7 months as a dual user, before I finally quit smoking. It'll be 6 months on April 17th, yet last weekend I was jonesing for a cigarette worse than ever. I upped my nic level and vaped through it, but it was a close call.

Remember, it's the ones you don't smoke that count! :D

How do you like the VapersTek nic compared to the other major vendors' nic? I would be getting there 'regular' nic since I am NOT looking for throat hit. I am going to buy a 1000ml bottle in pg; it is a bit pricey but I find I am very finicky with peppery nic and nic bases. That is pretty much why I only vape Ahlusion. I recently bought a couple of bottles of my beloved NLV Gold and I find it stronger than I remember it to be, and this is with 6mg instead of the 24mg I was vaping it at. I also find I like my liquids at 70pg/30vg. Even the 50/50 tends to be too much vg for me.

How long did it take you to mix up something you liked? I have a bunch of flavors, but being my stubborn self, I have not tried to mix up anything but that dam CPBT that I can not get just so. I know, dumb. But good and stubborn..........
Shari, try 1ml batches, take lots of notes and get "ejuice me up" great juice calculator and free recipes all for free.

I like the VT TH nic just fine, though honestly I'm not sure I can tell a lot of diff compared to wizlabs' nicotine -- I still use Flash to really accentuate the TH -- but I love the price of that TH nicotine -- just $10 for 120ml, and I think it's less than $50 for a whole liter. :) I've never really tasted this "peppery" thing that others talk about -- as far as I'm concerned, the more tingle the better, and the vape just tastes to me like whatever the flavor is.

I had quite a few frustrating attempts at making something blueberry that I really liked; like others have said, I was in a self-defeating rut -- I couldn't make anything that tasted just like sweet-vapes' blueberry muffin, so I thought that meant I was a failure. But then I started reading in the TFA thread, about using creams and vanillas and sweetener, about using high levels of flavoring to avoid that tedious steeping thing, and I got some Inawera Shisha Strawberry and mixed it with some TFA DX bavarian cream, vanilla swirl, CAP sweet cream, and some sweetener -- OH YEAH, THAT'S GREAT!!!!!!!!!!! No failure there at all! It's been my ADV for more than 3 months, it's so yummy!

Inawera Shisha Strawberry 16%
TFA DX Bavarian Cream 6%
TFA Vanilla Swirl 4.50%
CAP Sweet Cream 2%
TFA Sweetener2%

It's a real gunker, with all that flavoring, but I don't even care! It's delicious! Diketone-free, too!

Andria
Holy carp, over 30% flavor! I normally don't break 18%!

Holy Cannolli. That is a LOT of flavoring. I've rarely heard of 20% even with higher % brands like TFA / FW /NF (which I don't use). I stick to lower % brands like SC/Bakers/FLV/NN/FA and some INW. There's a couple others I haven't tried yet but 5% total is about the max. Bakers has got some excellent creams, although they are a PITA to get. I wish there was more activity on the flavoring PIF thread. It'd be nice to swap out flavorings that I don't use for ones I haven't tried yet.

Well I just learned last week that per the Nicotine Comparison thread that when they say "peppery" they are not reffering to flavor but the the "peppery tingle" nic can have. The VT-TH is said to not have a taste, but it's got that tingle. I'm going to have to break down and try it. NN has a 15ml sample that can be ordered for $2 + shipping. They also sell a number of flavor enhancers I like.

The NN problem was one batch, and that was replaced. Most of their customer base is wholesale and I was surprised at how many premium juices use it. One of my favorites is Open Source and they use VT. I've had nic from WL, MFS, RTS and NN. Out of those NN was tops for clean and no TH (I hate TH). I'm going to try VT next. Bull City Vapes is another source for VT and I think shipping is less.

DIY is trial and error. Some people are lucky to fall into what works for them fairly easily (and even then I think it's selective memory). Ask me in a month and I'll have changed my opinion about everything. Just the way it goes I guess. I think it's worth it to find whatever it is you like best. I'd like to get into the tea flavors. I got some peach tea that I vaped in a day it was so good - then it was discontinued!!! I hate that.

I do use max VG and there's no way around long steep times because of it's thickness. No extra flavor is needed with proper steeping which inclues fruits when in VG. I steep for up to 5 months. Makes a huge difference. It's part of the price I pay for VG. There's a new sub on Reddit dealing with flavor molecules.

Yeah I don't taste anything peculiar in that TH nicotine; but maybe I use less of the Flash, since I started using the TH nic. I discovered about 8 months ago that I VASTLY prefer the sweet/fruity/creamy/bakery type vapes, instead of the tobacco flavors, but unfortunately I'm not satisfied with a vape if there's not a substantial TH, so 1) TH nic, 2) Flash, and 3) high PG for ME! :D

The only real problem with high-flavor-mixing is the extreme coil gunking it causes -- and, yet to be determined, if there are any hazards associated with inhaling food flavors. I avoid diketones as far as Im able (that strawberry recipe is as diketone-free as I can make it, but since that shisha strawberry is an organic flavor, there might actually be some naturally-occurring diketones in it -- I really don't know).

What is flash?

There's also the theory that over flavoring will decrease the taste.

Flash is just an additive, in the same manner as "Smooth," but I guess it does kinda the opposite -- it accentuates whatever tingle is present from the nicotine/PG combo -- it doesn't do much by itself, but in the presence of nicotine, it's sort of an amplifier.

That is very true about over-flavoring, with some flavors -- I've found it very true of blueberry, and frankly, over-flavoring with tobacco flavors is just... awesomely, epically BAD. The key to this high-flavor-mix thing is to use as much of the main flavor as you can without it getting muted or disgusting... and then match that percentage with assorted creams, vanillas, and sweetener, to "bolster" the main flavor. That's actually what we taste in any given food product, a combination of flavors, but most people don't mentally catalog everything they taste in a hard candy, or a doughnut, or a cupcake, they just yum the yum. :D The fact is that every single thing that goes into making a cake or a pie or anything else is part of the taste, which is why it can be very difficult to replicate the flavor of, say, an apple pie.

High-flavor-mix technique is normally 25%-35% flavoring, to avoid steeping, or keep it down to just hours instead of days or weeks.

Andria
Have you tried steeping with a hot water bath? 150-160° water (low crock pot) can make a complex flavor steep in just a few hours instead of days. Just make sure you steep in glass bottle.

It's been so many years since I even got the crockpot out of the box, I really have no idea if it still works, and I really don't have counter space to spare, with that mess of vape stuff all over one of them. I've tried hot water, just refreshing it as it cools, but I could never tell much difference. I prefer to mix it strong, and not need to steep it at all -- usually with juices I steep, I just forget about, and end up throwing away.

Aik,

I'm right there with you on the th and max vg. I tend to keep unflavored on hand for when I'm playing with new flavors.

I haven't tried NN nicotine base yet, but I have NicSelect that I got from MFS that is smooth and crisp even down at 3mg and 85% vg.

Have a link for that reddit thread?

Well, I broke out the credit card and bought a liter of VapersTek 100mg/ml in pg for $125.00 and free shipping. I sure do hope that it is as good as many say it is. I also went on Amazon and picked up a quart each of pg and vg and a dozen 4oz boston round amber bottles. I figure I will split the nic into the bottles and freeze it and take the last bottle and break that down into 30ml blue glass and make it 50mg/ml 50/50. Freeze all but one at a time.

I have read a good part of the DIY Forum here but either I can not find or do not understand how I figure my percentages for when I tweak a recipe. Let's say I make a Caramel ry4 as follows: 12mg nic in pg, 8% ry4double, and 1% caramel, in a 70/30pg/vg. I make this, taste it and tweak it with another 1% caramel. I use ejuicemeup.

How do I update that original recipe? If I just change the caramel from 1% to 2% in the recipe it changes all the values. Is tweaking a recipe a guessing game or am I totally missing something. My gut tells me it is a guessing game.

I do not want to make DIY into a mad chemistry project, but I would like to know how you all here do this part of your DIY. I am pretty dense until I get how it works. Thanks for any help here. I know I will understand you all (and I do not want to appear as dumb as I am in the TFA thread). You all can laugh at me, but don't tell anyone else....

I would put in nic at 100mg (if that's what you have) and you are following a reciepe to use one of the calculators. The tweaking's been done (not really - keep good notes and re-enter based on your new reciepe). It's not perfect.

Personally, I'd work without nic and mix apx 15ml of a base. Then split into 3x5ml's. Tweak each one, keep notes and then mix the final using the calculator based on your notes. There's always going to be guessing when you tweak a reciepe.

The other piece of advice would be to know your flavors. Put a drop into 4 to 8 oz of water and drink it. Doing that gives me an idea of intesity and tones. It's not precise. Just a place to start from.
