Still not doing well, smoked yesterday morning, thought about it all day. It's like being on a diet. Once you cheat it's over. Me and my bright ideas. . .but I'm still on the wagon, just left the store and the thought didn't even occur to me to buy a pack. Once I buy a pack I'll consider myself officially off the wagon again. This time around is about the 8th attempt to quit, still not the longest I've stayed quit. Once past a year I'll probably be more comfortable, if I can just exercise a little self control.

Hope you're all doing well! I'm hanging in there and reading a lot, just not posting much. Try to do better in future, but for today, no apologies. See you later.

Right there with Ya' . . . Hang-in there, "We" eventually will make it to that point and be comfortable with not smoking cigarettes . . . Just Sayin' . . .

NOW - I Really Hope - that EVERYONE who is facing the NEW WINTER STORM will Stay Warm, Take Care, and Be Safe . . . Personally, when I am up North - I'm wearing Sweat Clothes, a Scarf, and Gloves even in the House or Mill when it is that COLD . . . Not NICE ! ! !

I'm just glad I'm not forced to use bottled water for everything like they have to in W. Va. That would be horrid in that weather.

I actually wish I could trade 'ya for a week. It's been decades since I've seen snow or felt temps below 50F. I think we're in a countdown to 80F days again and sun - sun - sun - sun for the next 6 to 8 months. It's boring.

Top, as long as it's warm on your island I am SO there! We have another ice/snow/mess heading our way. Our town is right on the fringe where they can't decide if we'll get 1/2 inch or a whole inch, so joyous. When is spring coming?

I read " just left the store and thought didn't even occur to me to buy a pack".
That's the attitude and mindset of a former smoker that has won a major battle.

Aikanae, I would trade you for the week, but that would be cruel and unusual punishment since you are acclimated to warmer temperatures. When girlfriend got home from work last night it was -9 and we had a good wind blowing making it even colder from windchill.

Im trying to figure out how I can surprise her for Valentines Day. I have a backup plan, but what I want to do I haven't gotten responses from key people. I wanted to send her on a scavenger hunt but some of the managers at the locations have not responded if they will help or not.

How funny of you to say that about the cotton gauze. I looked at a package of that stuff long and hard. I think I did read on here somewhere that it has been tried. Don't remember, but bet a search would find the thread. It also could have been a combination of longing and frustration that convinces me that I read someone had used it. lol

I bet it would work though. Just not sure on how much you would have to use and the absorbtion (sp?) rate. People use wire mesh and it works. Something to think about.

LOL! I just had the exact same experience with aspirin. Up and down the "pain relief" aisle, a thousand different types, but no aspirin.

Was on the bottom shelf in the facing aisle, next to the rubbing alcohol (right below the leeches and lycopodium powder).

BTW, does anyone else just use plain old cotton balls for their wicks (rather than hunting down the elusive "organic cotton")?
Seems to work just fine for me. Also, I've heard that cotton gauze makes a great wick, but can't figure out how you would get it inside the coil (unless you rolled up the gauze and wrapped around it?)

I did look into it a little bit. Most of the ones I found either did not state if they were kanthal or nichrome or the nr-r-nr stuff. I did a little reading on the nichrome and do not want to use the nickel. A few people say it tastes 'off' from being nickel and more people seemed to prefer the kanthal.

I am stubborn. I will build coils. Just me take me a little longer than the average bear. I did find a CVS in the next town over (about 20-25 miles) that has the sterile rolled cotton. And, bonus! There is a Hobby Lobby a few miles from that so I can get that Gizmo jig thingy. I am going to be a coil winding machine!!!

Got to log on to Temco and get a roll of kanthal. Depending on price I will pick up 30ga and then a 28ga also. Have to raid DH workbench for a better needle nose pliers and maybe buy a better tweezers. Am I forgetting anything? I have a bic lighter, wonder if I should get a torch. DH will have a fit thinking I will burn the house down. Don't want to be cast out to the garage in this weather. You know he is getting a big kick out of watching me attempt this stuff. I catch him struggling to not laugh at me. Sometimes he can not help it though. I am a combination of funny and pathetic, depending on the moment.
That is very nice looking!
Almost worth learning how to rebuild.
ALMOST.
I think my next order from FT is going to be all the different protank and evod heads. Ugh, but eventually something will work.

Shari - have you considered their pre wrapped wicks? It's not ideal, but I keep seeing good reviews and other posts referencing that's what they are using. Like I said, not the first choice but for <$5 could come in handy.

temco is not too bad in pricing, i think i read somewhere that they have quite a delay in kanthal resistance wire now that ecigs are popular, but im not entirely sure. can also check thier amazon and ebay pages, sometimes one is cheaper than the others.

a simple bic lighter will work, may just take a few seconds longer under the flame since the lighter does not get that hot. if you feel you MUST have a torch, they have torches that fit over a bic lighter..

you should be able to get tweezers and needle nose pliers at hobby lobby also, so you could find a size that works for you while you get the jingymabob (thingymabob?).

All the craft store coupons are interchangable. You can take JoAnn's to Michaels or Hobby Lobby and vice versa. They all take each others coupons.

The scavenger hunt sounds like fun. Your creative and I have a hunch you'll figure something out even if you don't hear back from the managers. With this weather, finding little notes and stuff in the house could work too. So ... what'ya get her???

I have NEVER experienced anything remotely close to -9F. Not even 30F. That would be a trip. I'd probably end up in a hot bath for most the week.

I saw that too Top. That is why I am getting in my car and driving. I will have it in my hot little hands right there (I love instant gratification) and, like you said, I can find the other little things I may need while I am there. Plus the CVS with the sterile cotton is a couple miles down the road. I have to see if there is a vape shop in that area. If there is then I can start my coil building career.

Drat! We are supposed to get an inch of snow/sleet/slush tomorrow. I can not drive a 40-50 mile round trip in that stuff out here. Have to wait another day. Double drat. Got myself all psyched up for this too.

;) Actually I'm pretty deep south, midlands of South Carolina. We rarely have snow so it shuts everything down. I want the 70'F back like I had last weekend!!!

Yep, diets suck and so do cravings. It's all mental, I'm going through a rough time AGAIN without my best friend, so it's probably a little rougher than it would be with my old friend. It's all going to work out, I am NOT giving in this time, I seriously can't afford to smoke. I need to invest in some WTA again, that stuff rocks. It'll have to wait until tax refund time, though, so for now I'm still using my 24mg handmade liquids and white knuckles, with the occasional Newport thrown in just to screw everything up! So complicated. And yes, I think I need some tobacco flavors again. I'll go dig through the steeping box and see what's hiding in there that I haven't gotten burned out on yet. Thanks for your suggestions!

Speaking of paying more and getting less, I bought a "Kanger" MT3S from a local b&m a while back. Turns out it was the same damn thing I had bought from FT and paid a third of the price. Unless Kanger changed the mouthpiece of the MT3S to clear, then I'm completely off base, but I thought the mouthpiece was black. Anyway, beggars can't be choosy and I had broken my last one so it was an emergency. Have quite a few in the cart at FT for a pre-emptive strike against the next emergency.

Had to leave work early today due to after-school activities being cancelled. School and work are called off for tomorrow. Did a little cleaning around here and watched a lot of TV, with more of the same tomorrow. We'll be covered in ice, not too much fun to play in, and praying not to lose power/water again. Hope you're all staying warm and dry out there, and be safe!

If you like new ports and crisp menthol at 24mg I have a recipe that will blow your mind. It tastes like a halls cough drop and even has a cool finish when you inhale.. bonus-huge clouds at 80/20 VG/pg

Yeah, I l'll trade for a week or so. My work day started at 18 degrees and ended at 7. Oh, and did I mention I haul coal that tends to freeze in the trailer below 35 degrees?

Shari,

Glad to hear you're sticking with it! It sounded like you were ready to throw in the towel a couple days ago!

You don't need to get a full-sized torch (unless you really want to ;-). One thing that works well is a "torch-style" disposable (or refillable) lighter. They usually sell these the same place they sell bic's. It's hard to tell the difference just by looking at them, though. Sometimes they are called "windproof" or "jet" lighters (but I'm not sure all windproof lighters are torch-style) (And FYI, although TSA lets you take a Bic on the plane, you can't take these ones).

Something like this:
10 Lot Windproof Lighters Rubber Coated Jet Flame Cigarette Lighters | eBay

Or this:
Torch Cigar Lighter Butane Flame Windproof Vintage Black | eBay

If they let you try them, though, the torch-style put out a blue flame (and have kind of a low hiss when they're on). Otherwise, if you look at where the flame comes out, these have a ring of small holes around the center part (where the flame comes out).

They also have other styles, search e-bay for "windproof lighter" or "torch lighter" and you will see all the different types.

Like this one:
Vibrating Novelty PEN15 Windproof Single Jet Refillable Cigarette Torch Lighter | eBay

Yeah, I was just jerking your chain!

I did manage to pull off a pretty challenging (for me at least) build last night. A vertical microcoil in an EVOD head, cotton wick outside the coil. I thought I got the idea from someone in this forum? Otherwise I might be confusing Claudia's vertical coil and something I read somewhere else. Wish I had picked a different juice than "Black Fairy" (absinthe, like black licorice) to soak the cotton wick in; nearly blew my head off, figuratively speaking! Finally gave in and boiled my cotton last night, and it did give off a whiff of chlorine.....

I've had very good results with the NR-R-NR wire from FT, the coils always come out at exactly the right resistance. They're nichrome, though (Shari, pretty sure that all the FT pre-wound coils are nichrome) so perhaps not for everybody.
