Keep in mind you don't absorb as much nicotine with vaping as with smoking. There's a great thread somewhere explaining how smoke molecules are smaller and nicotine in smoke is mostly absorbed in lungs whereas vaping is mostly absorbed in mucous membranes of mouth and nose. Basically he can use a higher nic and not actually inhale - hold vaper in mouth and exhale through nose.

It also helped me to realize that nicotine takes longer to reach the brain from vapor. With smoking the nicotine reaches the brain instantly and vaping it can take several minutes. I would expect that instant rush and it wasn't happening, then I vaped more and feel ill (OD). I had to learn to be a little proactive about vaping, and vape before I got so desperate (I was trying to cut down). It takes time. I'm glad your there to support him. Ecigs are sure a lot better than smoking, and easier to quit than patches or gum. I needed to keep that in mind too.

Good morning! I hope you all have a great day today!!

Not doing much today, but I have a new addiction, contests they take dedication. i won another mod! A hammer clone, giving to either my nephew or roommate. It looks too heavy and cumbersome, but, I'll see when I get it. I am trying for a Nautilus or Aerotank for me.

As for sweeteners in e-juice, they all raise my blood sugar. So, you do have to monitor your sugar while vaping.

CONGRATS Karen! Contest may be time consuming but they sure have been paying off for you lately. A lot of ppl seem to really like the Hammer, but I'm like you, it does look big and heavy. I've been fooled before when things arrive.

A sweetner that was new to me was the agave nectar. Does that still affect blood sugar? That would be really crappy if diabetics couldn't even vape sweet eliquids. That's like a cruel joke. Sorry.

I'm going through a phase of not getting sleep. UGh. I do sleep but wake up more tired, it's never enough.

To use a word picture. Nicotine in smoke is the size of an m&m, easily taken into your mouth (absorbed by lungs). The nicotine molecule in vapor is the size of a Big Mac, doesn't fit the mouth (absorbed by lungs). The mouth and nose are more like a paper bag (absorb bigger molecules) so they'll accept m&ms or an entire Big Mac (absorb the molecules)
Hope that makes sense without going into a bunch of confusing numbers.
I won't get into the "it takes longer for vapor nicotine to reach the brain than smoke nicotine" because I can't think of a good word picture but it's basically about twice as long because it's a longer and different pathway to get there

Somehow, reading Etherea's posts, I had a feeling this was the bulldog he was speaking of:

Really nice bulldog, Etherea :)

Why thanks Dolores, I catch a lot of crap for how picky I am about taking care of a truck that only hauls coal but it pays off when you get to drive the company show truck lol.

A quick search provides this information about "Agave Nector" and "Diabetes":

Agave Nectar: A Diabetic Sweetener?

SO - Now it looks like some more research and definitely an Update to the "Blog" is in order too - since it seems that it is similar to using "Honey" . . .

On a more positive note, I have not had a cigarette and do not want one. I am unstressfully dealing with Vaper's Tongue, knowing that it will pass.

*edited*

He is afraid of dripping juice into an atty. He thinks the juices in bottles are chemisty mixing and the stuff in the cigalikes is good for him. I did not disabuse him of that today. It is saved for another day. I am just happy he took something with him and he is going to try it.

So, thank you Lox. You have helped someone again.

I have a friend like that, he thought the idea of ecigarettes was cool but didn't know how to get started with them or anything about them. He came and asked my wife and I because we might give him crap for being ignorant but he would feel less stupid than asking a stranger.

Now he is using a small and cheap ego-style set up from a gas station and has even cut back on his chewing tobacco use since he started vaping.

He watched me working on my first dual-coil nano build last night after he got to try a low ohm dripper and wanted to know how hard it would be for me to build it for him (and do all the maintenance lol) he is pretty much all thumbs.

He is similar to your friend, several health problems and is slowly working on them. At one point he was over 400lbs and is starting to get to a more manageable weight.

He still thinks that drippers are too much work and that he wouldn't be able to keep up with the maintenance without messing them up, but he is quite happy to take the juice my wife and I don't like and give us back the bottles for diy, so I don't mind helping him out from time to time.

Best of luck with your friend and I hope your vaper's tongue clears up soon!

Shari glad your friend likes the 306 :) I'm wondering if a menthol eucalyptus type juice may help him. Be happy to send you some if you want. I sometimes add it to other juices to get that bit of coolness especially if I have a cold. Just pm me if you want it :)

Lox, TFA has an additive for diy that adds that cool effect, I use it in my "cough drop" which is a menthol eucalyptus blend.

I'll put it back in and snap a pic for ya....lol!!!

SmokTech RSST Genesis-Style Atomizer.

I got some heavier kanthal yesterday, so I'll re-coil it sometime. Right now, it's vaping fine, so I'll wait until I have more motivation :D

*Edited quote (lol what else is new)*

FP, your RSST seems like it might be somewhat easier to coil and keep from shorting with the insulator in the wick hole.

Since I almost have my dual coil nano done I am going to try and get my AGA-t working today after its done. I have heard of people modding the AGA-t to add the spring and washer that are on your Atty but so far I don't have much trouble with coiling it I just have trouble with the wire breaking when I pulse the coil so I am working on a new method that is similar to a micro coil with twisted 28 gauge wire, I'll let you know more when I start on it.

Congrats on a working Genny!

OK, so I finished my first dual nano build, a dual nano dragon. Build concept from Rip Trippers on YouTube and original idea by iTeo (I think, see video for confirmation and wicking technique): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmzSy2JHmuA&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Here are the build pics:

For critique, this build was done on a .05" Allen wrench with 28ga kanthal, wrapped 17 times and wicked with boiled cotton. The build meters out at about 1.3 ohms, with each coil measuring around 2-2.1 seperately. The wicking is great but, I think that I have too much cotton in it. The heat up time is a bit slow by comparison to Rip's but, I think that is due to not having a 20 watt mod and having used too much cotton in the wicking.

As far as the vaping experience goes, this build will really teach you how to lung hit as there is just no way to mouth hit something that makes so much vape so fast and so easily. When I get to change the wicks I will try and use less cotton and see if that improves the heat up time for the coils and the vapor production, currently it is a very thirsty build taking a pretty fair amount of juice to saturate the dual cotton wicks.

Overall, not bad for my first nano and first dual coil build, it is a bit airy but (I drilled my Igo-w to 1/16" before having a diamond reamer and dremel to slowly bore the holes the way I should have) it is not un-flavorful.

I know Lox. This is a sweet guy who can't even read and write at the 6th grade level. No computer and could not use one if had access. So he believes what he hears and sees on TV and sales clerks at these beer and tobacco shops that are selling the real junk stuff. I have to be careful how I teach/tell him things so as not to insult him or scare him off. He hides behind his pride.

We have known each other for 20 years so I can usually feel out where he is on something. Since he got sick, he is not telling truth on health, but he slips and says things he thinks gets by me. Of course, I am Nancy Drew on this stuff and he has me scared to death, the damn fool. Hope you can tell DH and I love him.

He did talk to DH on phone today and says he likes the little cigalike. Did not ask to talk to me so I have no idea if he really did use it or not.

From what he says, he is about a half to 3/4 pack a day smoker. When he was able to work, he would go most of day without smoking. I do need to explain to him about delayed reaction to nicotine. He wants to do 0 nic, says the cigalike is pretty much for when he is sitting watching TV and uses it instead of smoking. I am afraid to up nic level above 12mg. He is supposed to be on oxygen 24hr/day and has bad congestive heart failure. So I figure if he is mentally prepared to cold turkey nic, even if he is doing some inhale and not getting big nic dose, he should be ok. I am thinking ecig for more the mental and habit part of addiction, with a little nic to curb cravings.

It also helped me to realize that nicotine takes longer to reach the brain from vapor. With smoking the nicotine reaches the brain instantly and vaping it can take several minutes. I got some little clearomizers at my local vape shop that are the same width as a cigalike cartridge but longer and has a tip like a ce4/ce5 style. They hold about a 1ml of juice, are bottom coil (to fill though for easier fills) and were only $3 each. They're great for testing flavors and fit Blu batteries like a champ. The taste they put out is incredible. They use a 2.5 coil so no burning of the juices unless I really crank up the watts but still PLENTY of vapor.
Janty (The shop I'm talking about) also sells a battery that's about the size of a Blu battery but is 900mah and fixed 3.8 volts . I think it's $20

OK, so I joined another forum about vaping but I just don't think I'm elitist enough for them, everything there is more or less about being on more of the "I spent the most money on some obscure *thing*" than "I got this new gear and this is how I made it awesome" group.

I just can't get in the same category as that and its just not me, glad this place is home and I don't have to lie about anything just to find people with a common interest. Thanks guys.
