I agree with you, those hospital socks are pretty nice. I have a pair from last surgery and do wear them sometimes. I am thinking slippers that I can slip into and out of without help. I am partial to Dearfoams. Plus, having something to worry about besides surgery is good for me.

The 'what to eat' thing is for the first few days after the surgery. How much trouble I have is partially dependent on how much moving of everything the dr has to do to go from the front of my neck to get to the back. I pretty much hit the grocery to pick up better quality frozen dinner type stuff so DH does not have to worry about what to feed me, etc. for that first week or two that I can not drive and may not feel like cooking meals. He will eat junk food 24/7 and be quite content, I will not; so I am pre-empting a 'what do I eat' crisis when I know I will be cranky and unable to drive.

DH was being a sweetheart and washed my 3 new pairs of pjs and the tops of 2 pair shrunk 2 sizes. They will now almost fit the Kitty. So I may have to go get more pjs. Grrrrrrrrr.... Figures, last minute stuff, of course. Stupid stuff.

Novel thought of the day: I may not take any vape gear with me to the hospital at all. I will only be there 1 or 2 nights. I am considering trying to see how I do without any vaping. I have not attempted to go without for the year and a half I have been vaping. Since my throat will be very sore afterwards it may be a good idea. We will see how I feel.

You could ask them to add nicotine to your IV bag... ;)

Yeah. That would go over like a lead balloon. I think I would have more luck with more pain meds. Nicotine is a dirty word around surgeons, especially ortho and neurosurgeons for at least a couple of decades now. If I was smoking they would not be doing the surgery.

Hey guys! I started vaping on January 1st and stopped smoking that day. I had a weak moment and had my '2nd' last cigarette on January 5th which tasted really bitter and weird for me. I was ok for almost 2 weeks but the last few days I've been craving a smoke. I've been staying strong and chain vaping 6-12 mg juice while reminding myself how nasty that last cig tasted.

The only thing that kept me from going to buy a pack today is the torrential rain outside. How do you guys motivate yourself to keep strong? I feel like I'm going to fall off the Wagon any day now :(

I motivated myself to stay strong by going to a higher level of nicotine. I started at 18. Now I start off with 24 at the beginning of my day, and then go back to an 18 mg juice later on in the day.

i did pretty much the same, but i started with 24mg, and had to go up to 36 for most of the day with a few puffs of 44mg in the morning / heavy cravings times. and won a WTA contest when i was getting cravings so i tried the WTA. i didnt care for the taste of it (im a supertaster) but i killed the cravings i had.

now i mostly use my regulated box mod set to 50 watts on a tobh 2.5 using 6mg. or one of my rebuildable tanks on device of the day (different tanks are build to compliment different devices lol. no point running a higher ohm tank on a mech if it cant get it to a satisfying vape for me.) using 12-18mg. today is protank with my green k1000 pipe. it has the last of my hold fast vapors port royal in it. im sad about it.

I switch between the 6, 12 and 18mg throughout the day. The hardest time for me is after meals or the last walk I take the dogs on before bed. That cigarette was always my night cap and the one I miss most. I'm going to try and get a higher nic for the night.

Thanks!

Some people quit smoking immediately after they start vaping, but not me. I quit smoking 7 months AFTER. I had cut down significantly, but it was that last cig, before bed that I felt I could not live or go to sleep without.

Turned out, and I knew this, that it was psychological. I was getting my nicotine, but my mental dependency was stronger than the chemical. It was hard to break my 14 yr old habit/routine.

Finally, one night, October 17th, 2014 to be exact; I decided to just try going to sleep without smoking. I made an agreement with myself, that if I could not sleep, I would get up and smoke. Although I felt uncomfortable, I fought it and fell asleep. Here I am, 3 months and 3 days later...SMOKE FREE! :D

The path to quit smoking is different for everyone. Keep reading this thread and reaching out. You are not alone! Stay strong and keep up the good work! You can do it! :thumb:

Thank you!! I have not caved in to my craving yet. Today someone was smoking in front of me and I almost asked him for one. But instead I pulled out my mod/tank and diverted my attention away by showing him how cool it was. It was a great distraction and it worked!!!

Yay for one more day of being smoke free :)

I was hoping someone else would mention WTA; I hate to be the one constantly ranting about that stuff, but it has helped me immeasurably; I really doubt I'd have made a month smoke-free, this last time, nevermind nearly 6, without WTA. I don't vape it straight, so I have no idea what it tastes like; I get the 25mg (wholecig) or 24mg (mothersmilkwta), and mix it into my ejuice; up until the end of the year, for about 5 months, I mixed it at a level of 10%; starting first of the year, I went to 9%; so far so good, so at the end of the month I'll mix up some new juices with WTA at 8%. It completely freed me from cravings, the very first day I used it, so I'm very loathe to stop using it, but I'm also concerned that with the FDA's meddling, it might not be available indefinitely; I choose to withdraw from it slowly, rather than one day find I can no longer get it, when I still need it.

The mothersmilkWTA is very smoky; it's great in a tobacco vape, or anything that has a 'smoky' sort of flavor; I've started mixing a "Smoky Cappucino" DIY and I use it in that, and it's awesome. For my sweeter vapes, I use wholecig's; it's clear and has no odor I can detect, so I would imagine it probably only tastes like nicotine. -- nicotine is 90%-95% of WTA.

Personally I think the WTA is what has me turned around right now. I don't know what happened at the three week mark when I started vaping, but I just went slap off. Oh, I remember now. I was having equipment issues, and I let that get to me and used that as an excuse to smoke again. I'm not totally off the cigs yet, but I'm down to about a pack every three days or less. I WILL get there.

Hi everyone! My surgery went fine and I am home recuperating. You are not going to believe this, I did not, but the evening of my surgery I get a call from my DH. While he was visiting with my sister and her husband after about 1/2 hour of talking, my sister just keeled over and had a major heart attack and died. I did not believe it. But, yeah, she died the day I had my surgery. I went to her funeral Monday night. Still can't absorb it. She was 2 years younger than me. We were making plans to visit this week.
