I'm pretty sure guitar strings have a high nickel content, making them hard and not very malleable in larger gauges.I had a friend give me some used guitar strings, most difficult wire to work with that I've ever seen.
I doubt if I'll venture much farther into the land of ss, I'll leave it for the pros....LOL
I torched the first one, it became too brittle to coil, kept snapping off.I'm pretty sure guitar strings have a high nickel content, making them hard and not very malleable in larger gauges.
Yeah 430 is the opposite of that, torch it and it gets softer. Torch it too much and it work hardens and becomes a tad brittle.I torched the first one, it became too brittle to coil, kept snapping off.

So torching 430ss to dull red before winding the coil to help with coil symmetry and then pulsing to yellow after mounting to aid in coil rigidity? If that's true it would be a double bonus.![]()

Anyone know where I can pick up some 340SS as like the sound of annealing it till malleable
My local supplier Crazy Wire only seems to have 317SS atm
Also what would you recommend Nifethal 52 or 70

You mean 304?
Cheers jazzvaper52, sometimes designated 48, e.g. at Zivipf.
I see Zivipf has 304SS
Is this ok
