Honestly I am thinking this is stainless. Might try a ss CSV and see if temp gets normal looking
Ahh, different sourceSorry I edited to add the wire "NiFe 52/48" from Zivipf.
Ahh, different source
That's my source
Here is live view using ss CSV with some "adjustment"
I wanted to get some ss but at a lesser price...LOL
Now i need to do a dry cotton test, maybe later.
@TheBloke had a similar issue with a UK supplier as I remember. Not sure if it was NiFe 48/52 but it certainly was one of the NiFe alloys and it ended up being some grade of SS...thers are a whole lot of posts back aways in this thread...Honestly I am thinking this is stainless. Might try a ss CSV and see if temp gets normal looking
I downloaded the SS317 CSV from Steamengine and changed it a bit by dragging the temp points above 300F a little higher with my mouse. So from where did you get this SS mascarading as NiFe?
I sent him a email about it, kind of a heads up. It works good once you get the settings right but well....i don't have dna 200 but eyeballing this thread, this NiFe58 wire is looking like ss 316 or something between the standard TCR's of ss 316 an 317.
Have some of this on order it shipped today from Uncleman
right, its not what we ordered, i don't fault him, but its not the product we ordered, if wanted a low tcr i would've ordered some ss, but i wanted NiFe52I sent him a email about it, kind of a heads up. I work good once you get the settings right but well....
After reading this I have to say I'm a bit ....... Not his fault as he got screwed also. Just pisses me off its not what I orderedright, its not what we ordered, i don't fault him, but its not the product we ordered, if wanted a low tcr i would've ordered some ss, but i wanted NiFe52
A blast from the past.I just did a "slow burn" test on the dreaded Crazy 'NiFe', heating only at 5W. I thought maybe this could be a non-linear one, so I wanted to see if all the resistance rise came at the start of the heating. Then I thought I may as well just do it properly and got the Thermo out. I didn't do my full normal test harness setup, just quickly wedged the probe between two wraps. If anything that will over-estimate the TCR (under estimate heating.)
At about 300°C the resistance rose from 0.47 to 0.60, so a TCR of around 0.00108. So, yeah. No need for proper tests I think.
(That TCR is almost identical to SS304 @ 300°C, within the margin of error of my quick test anyway. Perhaps just a coincidence..)
Did he ever get back to you? I just ordered 3 spools then read this post. I don't want to spend $30 on Ss that I already have.I sent him a email about it, kind of a heads up. It works good once you get the settings right but well....
No not yet, ya it's a bit pricey for ss. Well depending on where you buy it.Did he ever get back to you? I just ordered 3 spools then read this post. I don't want to spend $30 on Ss that I already have.
Use 40 or 41![]()
I'm bummed that unkamens nife is actually ss but glad I waited to order it until you guys got a chance to test it out. Thanks for the feedback @dwcraig1 .

I misread your post, I got it from Unkamen Supplies
I just responded to Ralph's response to my email, I also referred him to this thread, way back where theBloke explains TCR as well as an explanation of what's seems to be wrong with it.Received a response to the effect that a materials receipt request is in progress.
Advised he should view this thread...
