Does it help the springiness if you preheat the SS430?

I think the springiness is a given about which nothing can be done.

As with other SS, I ALWAYS dry burn it, less for springiness than to get rid of hot legs. Both the low 28 gauge and higher gauges must, I say, be dry burned. Until, that is, someone proves me wrong by NOT dry burning AND getting a decent vape. It took me minutes to learn this lesson. Don't ruin your lungs and throat by failing to dry burn. [emoji57]

Did it give you a nice vape (after the dry burn)?

Although I am wary of SS, it's just a better fit for me than other widely available options. Being able to use it in TC and standard wattage is a great feature, and with 430 being nickel free it seems to be the best choice for me.

Plus 200ft for $8 shipped is just too good a deal :)

What types of SS have you used thus far?

BTW, I have some 316L in an international holding tank now for three days...from Zivipf in Germany. Looking forward to it coz it was no where near as springy as the 430.

Though, so far, the 430 gave a better vape than the 316 L. How subjective of me. [emoji3]

Wait, USPS released it at 4:37 PM today, so I should have it tomorrow.

ETA: Actually I built a contact coil (two) with 316. No way you're going to build contact with 430. You just ain't!!!

What's wrong with SS430 in a contact coil? I've ran contact dual's in a Billow v2, twisted in a Crown and Subtank+, and 3 wire twisted in a Subtank+. All the coils were 2.75 mm, 5 wrap on the singles, 6 wraps in the Billow. I just made a single large loop in an RDA and dry fired to remove the springy-ness before coiling/twisting.

I wasn't a fan of the single SS430 because there just wasn't enough density. After twisting it up, especially the 3 wire, it really came to life and was comparable to Ti 26/twisted 28... 430 in 26/24 awg would be preferable.

@Landman Clearly twisted is a very different case. No argument there.

If you tell me you've made a contact coil with 430, I want to hear more...
For the Billow, I took two 5-6" pieces of 430 and separately made one single loop on a Velocity and fired it to remove some of the spring. I then cleaned them with IPA and using a coil master 2.5 mm rod, made 7 wraps (one over what I want and I pull off one wrap from the leg that was in the hole/along the handle). This is the same thing I do with Ti as well. Because there is no tension using a coil master, there will still be some spring in the coil. To offset this, I use a 12 ga blunt tip needle that happens to be 2.75 mm. I have to work the needle in by twisting it but it will go through and be really tight. Then it's just like any other contact coil, put it in the posts nice and tight, pulse it just like kanthal to check/remove any hot spots, wick and vape. If I was wanting a 3 mm coil, I could wrap it on the needle at 2.75 mm and work a 3 mm rod into it the same way.

I just noticed Amazon doesn't have these in stock any more, but you might find them somewhere else. Even though it lists 2.8 mm OD, the caliper shows it being 2.75 mm. Because it's not overly long, I run a 2 mm rod through the needle for leverage if I'm wrapping on the needle. However, on the norm, if I'm wrapping a 3 mm coil, I set up my frankenstein version of the wire gizmo and wrap with tension as it will overcome the springy-ness and I don't have to mess with different rod sizes.

@LandmanWhat does triple twisted ohm out to be?
I've already ripped the coil out but I believe it was somewhere around .25-.28 ohms - I've wrapped so many coils recently I don't recall exactly.

Also, I am running them with 0.00138 instead of a full curve.

When dry burning titanium, what should one be wary of? Am I right in understanding from reading around here and in the titanium safety thread (there's so much info there that it takes ages...) that as long as I don't get a grayish look on the coil I'm ok? Considering that in any case I'll rinse it under fresh water and lightly brush it with an old toothbrush (efficient for the outside, clearly less so for the inside of the coil).

Yes, the whitish-gray powder-like dioxide that develops on an overheated Ti coil should be thoroughly washed off, or better yet, not allowed to develop in the first place. I dryburn my Ti coils at 7w in power mode but my evic has voltage stepdown, some mods don't and will likely over heat the coil quickly in power mode if you're not careful. Read back a few pages on this thread if your mod has adjustable tcr to learn how to dryburn Ti while in nickel temp control mode.

If your tc mod does not have adjustable tcr or step down capability you will have to adjust the wattage all the way down in power mode and use VERY short pulses, just until you see red somewhere, then brushing and rinsing will remove the ash and any dioxides that may have developed.

@jazzvaper What is an international holding tank. Just wondering cause I ordered some flavors from Germany and it sat at Frankfurt for about a week now it has been in New Jersey since Thursday. Had the same problem with the last order. Seems like once it leaves there it goes pretty fast sometimes.

USPS has an ISC (International Service Center) that will hold item 1-4,5 days at their discretion. From China usually 24 hours, from NZ slightly less, from Germany, this time, it was 3+ days.

I have never had anything not make it through the ISC.

ISC is US CUSTOMS, it is NOT the USPS. There's three of them for airborne shipments (LA, Chicago, NY) and they're technically a "port of entry".

They get it first, it goes through an inspection and clearance process (usually automatic, but sometimes they open packages), then they pass it on to the Postal Service. The delay is simply how long it takes them to get to your package. The thousands upon thousands of parcels that arrive in the US daily have to work their way through one of these three centers, and it just takes time.
