i just messaged ralph @ unkamen:
hey ralph,

do you know if your ss430 is the 430F variant? just curious since the data sheet for ss430 contains 0.5 or less nickel and ss430F contains no nickel.

thanks

I just asked for the sheet from the mill and will get back to you on that.

As you can see here in all the standard grades of SS the resistivity rise is linear, SS430 is the most linear therefore should be the most accurate for TC? With SS410 coming in a close second, really about identical in the temperature ranges we vape in.

These facts are from the "ELECTRICAL RESISTIVITY AND THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF
NINE SELECTED AISI STAINLESS STEELS" CINDAS paper found here:

*edit*
I see @TheBloke is using the same paper as his SS source for the spreadsheet (or whoever created it), I hadn't seen it till just now.

Hey 54, since you're studied up on 430F vs. 430 more than I am, is the res different enough between the two to measure?
I'm ignorant as hell here but... from basic common sense I'd be inclined to avoid stuff containing sulfur (430F).

In the meantime: http://www.stainless-steel-wire.eu/...tainless-wire-430f17-polished-078kg-800m.html

0,40mm (26 gauge approximately), but 36 Euros including taxes, for 1 Kilometer of wire... on something still unproven... it's a bit too much (I'm mainly interested for dry burnability and absence of nickel, which I found irritating with SS304 as well). I've written to them and they replied "F17 is another name for AISI 430, there is no sulfur".

Looking for a little guidance. I saw someone post somewhere about this. I'm running a crown tank with the 0.25 ss dual coil on a sx mini m class. Could I use the Ti mode and offset the temp using that coil for temp control?

I figured Ti mode would be better since it's tcr is lower than ni200 therefore closer to ss.

It can be done on the Evic VT, you will have to try it and see.

Thanks for reporting it, I know @cigatron is interested in running SS on a mod without adjustable TCR
Yes I am, and as you know 54, particularly interested in 430ss. Very close tcr to ti. Can't wait for your test results. Everything hinges on those results before I make a full blown switch to ss.

Btw, if the advertised tcr of 430ss proves true I may have a temp accurate evic in Ti mode. Well, more accurate than the 80°f underheated value it has now with Ti. Fingers crossed.
