kool, which should i get from zivipf? im seeing the 30 has a higher tcr than the 48. im a 26 awg type of dude. im gonna get a spool of each, 26 awg nife30 and nife48. how long is shipping from there to the US?
48 has higher resistance so more flexibility in coils. TCR of 48 is still high enough to be accurate. Shipping to east coast USA took about 5 days I think for me (order was fulfilled very quickly, props to them on that).

I have not used the NiFe30 and have no plan to, now. Don't want to pour cold water on your purchase, though I would wonder about the dry-burn-ability of it with 20% less Fe. Let us know.

Yes, 26 awg seems the smarter choice. I may have already given up on 28 awg, premature though that may be.

Keep us posted...

Oh, shipping has been less than two weeks, closer to 10 days.

I've experienced the exact same issues with using SS430 on my VTC Mini that Jeremy describes, plus the instant temperature protection problem being disscussed in the VTC thread. I really think it's purely software related. The VTC software wasn't designed to handle the TCRs of SS wire and reacts poorly to it.

On the plus side, the performance of SS430 in my Bellus tank with the VTC mini in VW mode has been no less than stellar.

I've been using the TCR for SS304 and it seems about spot on, but an actual full curve from SE doesn't work, for me at least. It kicks out of TC every time. I'll try to do a cotton burn and water test today if I get time.

Yes, please do a water test and a dry cotton test @Landman , that would def help Jeremy and I to understand more about why the Evic can't handle unkamen's 430ss. It should!

Using the 304ss tcr for good performance would def indicate a problem with the metallurgy.

Let us know what you find to be the "actual" tcr.

Just in case you feel like you're being used as a substitution for @TheBloke, well, you kinda are. You have a DNA200 and the know-how to use it. Yeah, no temp probe, but we'll take what we can get!!!!

I feel that you will find the tcr of unkamen's 430ss to be much lower than spec....good luck friend

I think we're off on two different wires - I thought @pbanj is talking about the mystery/supposed NiFe52 wire, which is what I was referencing to about using the TCR for SS304.

I did do a water test on it back when I received the SS430 and it boiled at 230f.
Received the SS430 from Unkamen today, 28ga. I'm sending some to Tom for testing, but until he puts it through the paces, I've done a tad bit of playing with it. So it is metallic and actually has a bit of spring to it. Using a coil master, it has a similar spring rate as Unkamen's Ti (measured 3.22mm off a 3mm rod). It also has about the same amount of graphite when I cleaned with IPA.

I wrapped a 6/7 coil, 3mm spaced and put it on a DNA200 which saw it as 0.74 ohms. Using a .csv @balazsk sent me to test out, I set the temp to 500/15w and put a fan on the coil. It barely turned a yellow/straw color while the temp bounced right around 500; no glow detected. After leaving it sitting for about 10 minutes, I put it in power mode, 20w. No matter how long the button was held, it stopped at 1.22 ohms, glowing nicely. I then put it at 40w and it snapped in about 3 seconds.
Next I wrapped a 5/6, 3mm contact coil for a water test. It showed .64 ohms at the start, ran a water test on it and it was stopping at 230 degrees/0.722 ohms.

Right you are, my bad. Duh. What elevation were you at when doing the boil test with 430ss @Landman ?
