That doesnt sound good. I will hyper-torch some this evening and see what happens...green bad :(

check this out. Bunsenite, the mineralogical form of Ni(II)O....
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nickel(II)_oxide#/media/File:Bunsenite-bem-22a.jpg

edit: of course Ni salts are coloured, usually green also, but this is just heated in air so it is likley to be the oxide I think (could be the carbonate maybe??)

edit2: not the carbonate as that is converted to oxide and CO2 with heat...
My teenage son says black, not charcoal, black
Oh, it flakes some

The blue one inside the flame, yes clean flame, pretty hot.

Yay I got my order in for rightfethal 48 at Zivipf now just read a book till it shows. I'm thinking like a 2.5-3mm 6-8 wrap microcoil. On SE you use nifethal 52 for checking on what the coil will ohm out at right. I got 26awg 2 spools.
all sounds good! I am liking the 25g i must say. Sort of mimics the Ti 24g that I love so much!

ps. and I also got 27g which is close to 26g Ti, my next favourite Ti guage!

OK back to NiFe48 Zivipf. After you build your coil what setting do you use to pulse it to make sure it is heating from inside out and what do you use to clean it. Something like 5w or what? Want to get this stuff down so I know when I get it will be all ready.
Have you all seen the new Provari? $200 and no TC what are they thinking? It's just a P3 in a box form.

Back on NiFe48...lol!

I wiped with some IPA althought it was pretty clean already. Pulsed at around 7W to start but might have gone a bit higher, cant remember. Mine was 8/7 of 25g around 2.5mm so quite a decent coil mass. You can probs get away with a bit lower power with 26!

Ok, so the nife48 can't be pulsed like kanthal because of the high nickel content? Low power dryburns only, like Ti?

Here's what I know and do:

A significant part of my vaping is squonking, using dual Kanthal coils. It is a regular practice for me and other squonker to dry-burn and rewick. One very experienced (CAM) squonker dry-burns and rewicks every day.

I dry-burn only to the extent of cleaning gunk from the coils. That is the only dry-burning I do with NiFe48, thus far.

Like @TheorherSteveO I started initial and subsequent dry-burning at low wattage, 7-9 watts. Recently, I have been willing to go up to 12 watts, to remove gunk, very patiently and slowly.

In summary: I dry-burn only to initially oxidize the coil, or, remove gunk. Beyond the wattages just mentioned I believe I would, potentially, affect the integrity of the coil. Thus, I will not burn at "high" wattages.

Well that doesn't sound too bad. Can't dryburn at high power, no probs. I dryburn my Ti coil that I use for nets once every few days or 20ml, whichever comes first, at 7w for 10secs to get everything burnt off. So it sounds like nife48 may work very well. Is it as rigid as Ti once pulsed? I love the toughness of my 24g Ti builds. They have held symmetry very well after umpteen dryburns.
