Steven, please keep us posted on what you end up doing with RY4. Did you get the TFA RY4 Double, or RY4 Asian?

I'm fighting the RY4 battle right now. Using Bill's steps I'm doing a 5ml base and adding drops at a time to find the right spot. I'm up to 5% and just now getting a microscopic hint of sweetness. I've been vaping the stuff at 13% and couldn't taste it. So, I increased the percentage to 15% and was immediately in perfume/chemical/industrial waste land. So I now assume the reason I'm not tasting it at 13% is because it's too strong.

Off topic... The ideal way to test mixes MUST be with a dripper. I have an Omega rda and I'll be hanged if I can ever get it to work right. I've tried a dual-coil build at .9 ohm resistance and it gets so hot... Can anyone recommend an easy RDA that works good for testing juice? This is the third one I've tried.

Thanks!

Tim
Yes, drops and drippers! I use my Taifun with a dripper cap. I literally have a dozen bases, so I coil and wick them all up, I rarely use them all as I "hit" my target usually within 7 attempts, after "thinking" about the recipe in advance.

Haven't posted for a while but saw the Oreo interest and thought I would put in my two cents as I attempted this flavor a year ago as a pretty new mixer and learned a couple things before I moved on. ( was trying to do Oreo for my daughter one afternoon)

When you get very close to your Oreo destination and your missing something and can't figure it out, grab your TFA peppermint and add one drop per 10 ml and if that doesn't do the trick, give it one extra drop per 10 ml.

If you want to turn it immediately into a yummy Girl Scout thin mint, give it 1 drop per three ml of peppermint.

I know it sounds weird, but go grab an Oreo and twist the cookie off and it it slowly and see if you don't taste the ever slight hint of peppermint in there.

I came close after two attempts a while back and lost interest .

I used double chocolate clear 16%. Caps vanilla custard at 4% And the peppermint

If I were trying this recipie now as a bit more experienced mixer, I would buy some Oreos and take some of the filling out and sit it beside me in my mixing area and start tasting my flavors on my hand and when I think I have my creamy inside flavors set, start mixing them till you get the inside right
As a stand alone juice.

Then just mix the double choc clear and the cream together and add the peppermint ever so slightly a drop at a time

The double choc clear and the peppermint , In my opinion will definitely be part of you recipie.

Your on you own as far as the filling.

I think Mr Wizard is on the right track

Later all....

Hello, old friend! Good to see you. Been tryin' to get this thread goin' again! Please stay here!

Intersting on the peppermint. I know that Arnie uses a touch of peppermint too for oreo cookie, so that's two recommendations for using if, from two very trusted sources! I'm all in on it now!

I like the way you explain your thought process on these mixes. That's very helpful to new DIY'ers. I'm trying to throw some of that into the mix as well. Most of the time my recipes are very close before I ever mix anything up, and then I just adjust to taste/flavor upon diving into the mix. Takes some experience for that, but the way this thread is now going, we'll get there fast, fast, fast!

Many thanks! Stick around...

I use little 510 bridgeless atomizers for testing flavors. Easy to use, clean (just run some hot water through and blow through the 510 connector). Cheap enough. I got mine from a China online store cheap but there are US sources. I will be on my computer tomorrow and can post a link if interested. The company is China Buy (Buye?).

Got this from topsecretrecipe website for cooking on replicating Oreo cookies. Interesting...

Cookie:
-Betty Crocker choc fudge cake mix
-shortening, melted
-cake flour
-egg
-water
-brown paste food coloring

Filling:
-powdered sugar
-gran sugar
-vanilla extract
-veg shortening
-hot water

Yes, Jag, this is how you do it. Just keep in mind that we have at most two dominant inhale flavors and two possible dominant exhale flavors, so we can't get every nuance in most juices, but we can try. Every now and then, you'll put together a recipe where you can detect as many as maybe 7 different flavorings. Those are the ones that become your signatures, and they are special.

To all of you that don't know, Bill gave me my start in DIY quite a while back and I will forever be appreciative of that.

I guess it's been over a year and a half since I've bought a juice from the store

Bill, you will have a great Oreo cookie in no time if I know you.

I have been lurking this thread as of late and must say that it's better than it ever had been in the past year and a half.

I've moved on but I have you guys in my tapatalk and will come in to say hello from time to time if you don't mind.

Happy mixing

Thank you for the kinds words. Much appreciated, and welcome to the thread. We're getting more participation now than we have in some time, and I hope this continues. I believe our juice making/vaping journey is at least as much fun as the destination! Figuring out the various juices that are top shelf is really fun to me, and obviously to many of you, I can't help but think we can probably figure out a lot of stellar recipes with true commercial applications. Not that that is even my goal, but great juice is attractive to all vapers, and many vendors. Just sayin'. My friend, you are off to a good start. Looking through your list, we need to add some vanillas and certainly our Bavarian cream! These are most important. Vanilla Swirl is an obvious choice, but really all the vanillas and creams (sweet cream) are important to us here. Anyway, welcome, great start, Ciao!

I really wanted the Bavarian Cream, but WL was out of stock during my time of ordering. The only reason I passed on the other vanillas for now, is because I have a bunch of Capella's vanilla flavorings, and a few from a brick and mortar we have locally called, "The Vapor Lab." When it comes to vaping, I really prefer dessert type flavors, consisting of either vanilla or chocolate. I personally don't enjoy the fruity type vapes. My favorite to date though, is the Pumpkin Tumble from AIV.

I also forgot to ask... As far as PG and VG distributors / brands? Is there one, you guys prefer over others? I personally prefer to drip, and tend to usually stick with 75%VG / 25%PG mixes.

Bulk Apothecary for dilutants. About a quarter of the cost of other sources. MFS just had a great sale on Nicotine. I bought two liters. I buy wholesale from TFA direct. About 70% off, so you can get the 4 oz for about the same price as the 1 oz. Just got to the site and upgrade your account.

Because many of my mixes are at 30% flavoring, I do a 30% PG/70% VG mix....always....and make my 30% bases up in advance and keep in reagent bottles. That way, the flavors are all blended when I later add the VG Nic and VG dilutants, both always at 70%. Good luck!

Awesome. Thanks for the info. Would you say you stick with Bulk Apothecary for the price, or quality, or both? And I also like the ideal of mixing the flavors before hand. Never really though of it like that.

Bulk Apothecary is USP Kosher, so, the best quality, and the best price too. I buy in 5 gallon buckets, but I make a lot of juice. Just today, I got back into the lab and knocked out 1.5 liters of juice. Pre-blending the flavors eliminates 90% of steep time.

Having some problems with some flavors, 2 groups that seem to all taste very similar. Apricot, lychee and hibiscus all seem to have this weird sweet/rotten kind of taste. And then malted milk, strawberries and cream and another one I don't remember taste sort of dusty, hard to explain it. Anyone else noticed that and does it go away with steeping or am I mixing them too strong or what.
Can anyone recommend an easy RDA that works good for testing juice?
I use a stock IGO-L with a single 28g coil around 1.8 ohms, about 11 wraps on a 2mm drill bit. Very easy build and great flavor. Very cheap too, can get them for $10-$15. If you are having heat problems it's probably an airflow issue, assuming the wick is wet enough. Make sure your coil is situated between the air hole and drip tip, you want a stream of air flowing over the coil, that cools it down and produces the most vapor, from what I've seen.

Apricot, lychee and hibiscus? Can't say I use any of them in any juice I've ever made. I do believe I have samplers of all of them, so that means I've tested them once upon a time. Must not have liked them either. I have used malted milk and strawberries and cream.

My take on mixes like strawberries and cream is that I would love to use this in a mix where I wanted a slight strawberry flavor note, but not as a stand alone juice. There are many many strawberry and cream recipes. This is my latest, and it's a copy of one of those "show winning flavors." I am frequently asked to match flavors in the market place. Here's mine:

Strawberry (NOT RIPE) - 12%
Sweet Cream - 5%
Vanilla Swirl - 5%
Hazelnut - 3%
Honey - 3%
Sweetener - 2%

This is a 30% mix, and I can easily taste all of the flavors in it, just as I could the original that it was matched to. May be the most variable juice out there. The Hazelnut is not overpowering, nor do we want it to be....just a touch of something interesting to distinguish from "simpler" flavorings. A lot of flavors could be substituted for the hazelnut, though, to create this interesting note, and setting it apart from others. Probably would be better with the Hazelnut Praline flavor, but, remember, this was a juice match, so that's what I did.

Speaking of juice matches, once you learn to mix stuff, a little persistence will pay off, as vendors will give you lots of juices to match (free juice), and this can lead to opportunities (or an increased work load - POV). Another thing I like to do is taste test flavors at B&M's. Occasionally, I'll run across some fun flavors that I want to make in the "Lab." Here's a Pink Starburst that is really popular with my daughter and all her 20 something friends, that I made after tasting something similar at a local B&M. Very popular on the Strip, as well:

Pink Stardust (Pink Starburst)

Strawberry - 8%
Sweet Cream - 4%
Vanilla Swirl - 4%
Cotton Candy - 2%
Sweet and Tart - 2%

Folks go nuts for this one, and you can see how similar it is to the Strawberries and Cream. Instead of hazelnut, substitute TFA Sweet and Tart, and you really do get a Pink Starburst (Pink Stardust on the Strip). If you substitute Bubblegum for the Sweet and Tart, you get a delicious strawberry bubblegum (bazooka) flavor. Change Strawberry to grape, and get a delicious grape bubble gum (bazooka). Or, keep sweet and tart AND bubble gum and make one called grape bubbleburst. All are very good.

Your juice is about to "Take Off."

Just made four juices of varying strengths:

View attachment 371592

So, this was four flavors, Dutch Apple Pie ala Mode, Apple Jacks, Flamingo, and Lemon Meringue. Strengths are 0, 6, 12 and 18 mg/ml. 1/2 of an order I got yesterday. Commercially, these are known as Frontier, Jacks or Better, Flamingo, and Luck Be a Lady. I've provided the recipes for each of them previously (except Flamingo). Next is to add the labels to the amber glass dropper bottles, fill, then deliver to Vendors. These are all private label wholesale juices. I still have to make Monkey Business (Bananas Foster), Pink Stardust, Sin City Danish (Cinnamon Danish), and Pair 'O Dice (Tropical Paradise).

I am being bugged to provide a tobacco (private label) and a menthol. I have a menthol that I call "Cool Breeze," but no tobacco, as I haven't made one in two years. Anyone have a good TOBACCO RECIPE??? I need one! Thanks!

Another old friend! How ya' been? Good to see you here, Borescoped! We need DIY'ers on here to contribute, and for up and coming DIY'ers to ask their questions, and get this thread going again. I'm a big fan of the TFA flavors, and the delicious juice we can make using them.

What is your favorite flavor?

Mine is Peach, Juicy Peach. I'll give you some recipes later. Yummy!

Wanted to get you Flamingo. This one has been around a long time, but it's still very popular, and easy peasy, too!

Flamingo:

Strawberry - 8%
Peach - 7%
Coconut (Extra) - 3%
Sweetener - 2%

Nice little 20% mix. Adjust to taste. I did. Remember, you can change a percentage here and there, add an ingredient here and there, and claim your own juice! Since we all flavor to taste, all of your recipes will be unique to you, and slightly different, perhaps way different from mine. It's the journey folks...

Your Juice is about to Take-Off!

I don't have the time to make the Oreo Cookie Flavoring today. However, I did jot down this starting recipe. I will start here:

Oreo Cookie, maybe cookies and cream?:

Chocolate - 4%
Double Chocolate - 4%
Sweetener - 3%
Sweet Cream - 3%
Bavarian Cream - 3%
Vanilla Custard - 2%
Peppermint - 1%

I have not tried this. This is just my thinking about starting percentages using these ingredients. When I get a chance, though, I'll work on it. I think we can knock it out. Anyone who has the time and the ingredients to work on this one, I would appreciate hearing from you! This one might be really good. I used to chop up my oreos in milk going back probably 50 years now....holy smokes, that's scary.....

Other ideas that I'm considering regarding the oreo juice....maybe dulce de leche (maybe for cookies and cream). No milk chocolate. Seems to me that we need to stay on the dark chocolate side, but will only be able to tell upon mixing. If peppermint turns out to be the missing ingredient as espoused by Arnie and Thunderball, then perhaps the cookie part is not needed additionally. For the cookie, I know that flavor art and DIY flavor shack makes one. If the cookie is truly a cocao base, then the bittersweet chocolate may be the ticket, and then no separate cookie flavor would be needed. Two cents...Good luck!

Edit:

Btw, I would test this as a 100 drop mix. Then adjust to taste for exact percentages. Bet we could get there in less than 800 drops. :2c:

I use a Trident V2 Clone. It has 7 different adjustable air flow, single or dual coil (I prefer single). The most important part to me though, is the wick. I use Rayon Fiber. Compared to cotton, it appears to burn cleaner, stay wet longer, and when it does dry...I don't get that extremely burnt taste. After burning off what juice is still left on there, I can switch flavors most of the times, and not have a single trace of the previous flavor.

Here ya go! I have lots of these; for me they last a LONG time. Put in about 6-7 drips of juice and let them sit for a few minutes. Top off with a few more drops (not too much!) and vape away. To clean, I run then under hot water so the water drips out the 510 connector end. Blow through the 510 connector end, repeat. If you try a strong flavor, a soak in plain cheap vodka and a good rinse does the job.
