That's what I have done Bill. I know 4 flavors I use on every mix - no matter what other flavors I use - so that's my base. Then its SO easy to add any other flavors to that base! Even if ends up being a flavor I would not prefer as a ADV, I can still use it or always add a stronger flavor - say chocolate or tobacco flavor to bring out a whole new taste. Saline is magical as well!

I am not big on the TFA flavorings but this IS the best flavoring thread on here.
Thanks to all for putting up with me.
Hello Robert!

What is it you like about other flavorings and/or dislike about TFA flavorings? I'm curious!

While I use about three vendor flavorings, and indeed, TFA is missing whole swaths of key flavorings, imho, I do so very much like their multiple ingredient approach to our mixing. On their own, TFA flavorings are not so hot. However, this is the very reason I like them. Mixing individual ingredients works rather well with TFA flavorings because their flavors tend to NOT take over a mix, as so many other brands tend to do. This allows many complex and subtle variations, that I have found difficult with other mixes with other brands. Also, since I shake and vape ATM, I need the ability to pile on a lot of different flavorings ATM and NOT destroy the mix in the process. Another way of saying this is that TFA flavors seem to play nice with others. My goodness, many LorAnn flavors absolutely take over the mix even at 1%.

Now, that being said, several other brands do allow you to mix a complete flavoring with a single flavoring and that can be very good. I am a tweak freak, though. I have to adjust almost all my flavorings to suit my tastes, so dominant flavorings, that may not play so nice with others, actually makes it more difficult for me, and not less difficult.

Again, now that being said, since I also like HFM ATM (high flavor mixes at the time of mix), and tend to mostly loathe steeping times, I have to use TFA to allow me the flexibility to mix with, taste test, and adjust, perhaps half a dozen times, to hone in on a potential winner. In this way, TFA excels imho.

Even so, if I want oreo cookies, for example, a great root beer, a great cake, or a great frosting, among others, I have to look elsewhere, and, in fact, do use other brand flavorings, but only because of the gaps in the flavor arsenal that exists with TFA.

Many thanks for your participation, btw. We don't put up with you! We look forward to your observations and sharing of your experiences, and thank you for sharing so generously. That's what helps make this the best flavor thread on ECF! Many thanks and good luck! :toast: :D

Yes, indeed, and so very helpful to the new mixologist vaper that you so generously share these experiences. As mentioned, this passing along of our individual successes and failures, our recipes, and likes and dislikes, is what helps this community, and is what is so very helpful to the new mixer. I applaud you and everyone else that shares their stories and experiences with us. I learn something new every time I come on this thread, and that's what brings me back, as well. :toast: :D

Copied from another post. You can also get it from a pharmacy.

.9 grams of non-iodide salt (sea salt) to 99.1 ml's or grams ( same thing ) of distilled water = .9% saline solution. Thats a lot of saline. If you have a scale that can measure it, .09 grams salt to 9.91 ml's or grams water.

I am a strange bird in that I have a strong dose of the "Bitter Gene". Things that taste sour to most people taste bitter to me and some things that do not taste at all to some tast bitter to me. Also I cannot tolerate artificial sweeteners due to a horrible aftertaste. The same applies to many flavorings. Just horrible chemical tastes.
Andria for instance loves Inawera Shisha Strawberry, I got some and it is horrible to me. After a few tokes my lips started tingling, which I learned is a bad sign. When I first started vaping I almost gave up because artificial ingredients in the juices I bought messed my mouth up bad. I very quickly ordered some no artificial ingredients Blueberry, Peach and Watermelon from Flavor Concentrates and started DIY within 2 weeks of starting vaping. They were my single flavor vapes for a while. I did find one el cheap tobacco flavoring I could handle.

I am working thru the various brands and flavorings and so far I have trouble with many of the Inawera and TFA flavors. I wind up just throwing about 30% of the flavors in a box to give to someone else some day. I wish they listed the chemicals in them so I could identify the ones I can't handle and make better choices.
Got a few FA flavors a week or so ago and will try them... Been using Hangsen Desert Ship tobacco. Pretty good for tobacco.
Capella overall has worked the best for me so far. I have only tried 3 FW flavors so far but 2 worked.
for fruit flavors I love Flavor Concentrates brand. No artificial ingredients at all. Their blueberry is great, Watermelon is good. For their strawberry I add just a bit of CAP sweet Strawberry and it is good. Peach is the same I add a bit of Juicy Peach.
It is a journey thru DIY and I am in for the long haul.

I appreciate the reply and interest and wish there were juice testers out there with my taste peculiarities. But I expect that they gave up on vaping after trying it.

What are the typical uses for saline? use with particular flavors, etc? I assume it is used very sparingly.

how about an IV bag of Salline?

Yes, I see...the challenge that you face....wowzer!

I think that TFA does list all their ingredients. Under their FAQ section, they have a link:

Perfumer's Apprentice

Click on the "LIST" button, and you will be directed to an ingredients list. This can be quite useful once you identify some of the offending ingredients. Best of luck! :toast: :D

Their coconut and vanilla are STRONG.
I much prefer CAP Coconut and Vanilla.
But their fruit flavors are smooth.

Robert, have you tried all the normal ways to eliminate the chemical/floral notes in the flavorings? They may not work for you, but they do work for me and others. I've blogged about them as well. Just curious.....and sincerely wish to be helpful! :toast: :D

The heating shaking open bottle steeping, etc yes no go it is something in there that does not easially go away. Part of the artificial flavoring I think.

On the Inawera site, I discovered that the shisha strawberry contains a chemical called methyl cinnamate, and this chemical is apparently flammable -- this might be what is objectionable to Robert, with his super-taster buds.

Just whipped up a new batch. Been eyeballing this wee bottle of Pistachio thinking...no way that taste good! Well friends...its amazing!

RY4 double 7%
Pistachio 3%
Juicy peach 3%
Cheesecake graham crust 2%
Toasted almond 2%
DX caramel original 2%
DX vanilla cupcake 2%
Coconut 1%

This has been my ADV - minus the Pistachio - so when it was time to make another 50ml, figured I would throw in the pistachio and see what happens! Very good melody of flavors. It's not pronounce or forward...but its there. Making the mixer have more body. I'm liking it a lot!

Flavorconcentrates.com Free shipping and you can get your flavor in a glass dropper bottle if you desire. Not real cheap and a limited selection but their Blueberry is very good, and strawberry is accurate a bit of the natural strawberry raspiness, why I like to add just a bit of sweet strawberry to it. Makes good strawberries and cream. Their watermelon is very good and banana is good as well but it need a bit of steeping to shine. Those are the main ones I am most familiar with. Their blueberry and watermelon were my ADV's for a while.
I usually add a bit of GNC liquid stevia as a sweetner since I cannot use artificial sweetners.
Stevia does not seem to be a real coil gunker.

Thanks, I like what you have said about them, and love the real fruit flavors, I don't have the super taster tongue that you have, but I am always looking for a more real taste. I never have tried the stevia, I did not know I could get it at GNC. :)

Thanks again
