I did a search on Twitter for #Irma

One gal said her grandmother in Boca Raton said their local Publix is already sold out of bottled water.

Someone else posted that Irma is 10 mph from becoming a Category 5.

Prayers for all those in her path. :nun:

It is now a Cat 5

We are watching it closely because as we all know, they can change track in an instant.

We've stocked up and did that last week before the run on the stores. We plan on putting up the hurricane shutters on Saturday but leaving the back sliders until last minute. That will help with not feeling too claustrophobic.

We're on the east coast, Classy is on the west. Praying for Louisiana also. It may go to the gulf and head up. Too early to tell where the most likely landing will take place. Even when they think they've got a clue, it can still shift.

Good morning loves

Was talking to a couple of "first responders" the other day and they're all hoping it takes the same track as Harvey. Their reasoning is it can't destroy what's already been destroyed, and as the recovery assets are already in place, it'll be less strain than if Irma wipes out a new area. Gotta admit, there's some logic behind that as callous as it seems.

Very true! Hadn't thought of it that way! Does make some sense.

Oh, don't be surprised if you don't see me tonight, it's going to be a really long day.
Hope it's not as bad as you're thinking, but completely understand if you're absent this evening. ;)

Good morning lovely lurkers.

I didn't want to get up either...but then I never want to. ;)

Dale, I hope your day isn't too bad and goes smoothly for you.

Hope everyone has a good day.
You have a good day too Angel.

Good morning Angel, hope your day goes well too. I can already see the cluster of folks waiting for the doors to open.
Oh ugh...have fun.

Good morning Robin.
Have sure been thinkin' about you and the others in FL.
As big as it is, even if it shifts, there will still be a lot of people impacted. :(

I heard Puerto Rico, V.I.'s, Turks and Caicos (that area) will most likely take a catastrophic hit.
175 mph winds

Stay safe, and prayers. :nun:

I thought about that yesterday. :(

I think they should issue evacuation orders for at least tourists today. Get them out before issuing for citizens tomorrow at the latest.

Getting in and out of The Keys is already a pain let alone if everyone leaves at the same time

It's only a two lane through the Keys. I've heard that they open both lanes going in the same direction and not let anybody go south during evacuations. Still that is only two lanes and a Bunch of people.

#HurricaneIrma Advice: Take pictures or videos of all your valuables. The insurance company is not your friend. Pass it on.

#HurricaneIrma is now a Category 5 with winds reaching an incredible 175 mph, this will be a catastrophic event for the Leeward Islands

What are those made out of ??

They are metal panels. They have bends in them to make them stronger.

There are long bolts embedded into the exterior block. Line the holes up, slide them on then screw wing nuts onto the bolt to hold the panels in place.

These are the kind we have: How Do You Install Hurricane Shutters?

    How to install:

I'm in the process of removing the plastic caps in preparation.

Do you have cams outside?if not I know I would have to drill a few small peep holes here and there so I could look outside :2c:

I can not deny that I have a funny feeling in the pit of my stomach right now concerning Irma.
I'm only 20 minutes by car away from Classy...so need to turn of worry wart mode and just continue prepping.
I wish that sucker would just turn north in to the Atlantic but that is not going to happen.:(

Evacuation orders for Irma coming Wednesday
    Excerpt:
However, tourists and residents are encouraged to start evacuation plans now and the earlier people leave the Keys the less traffic they are likely to encounter.

“If ever there was a storm to take seriously in the Keys, this is it,” Monroe County Emergency Management Director Martin Senterfitt said. “The sooner people leave, the better.”

Now is a good time for tourists and residents to fill their tanks with fuel and complete their evacuation plans. There will be no shelters in Monroe County. Information about out-of-town shelters is in the works.

Monroe County is closing all of its government offices and county parks on Wednesday. Essential county employees, emergency management and fire-rescue personnel will be at work. The Monroe County Emergency Operations Center in Marathon is opening at noon today.
