Good morning, Dale, OBG, Joey and sleeping Lurkers. The storms are gone, but the aftermath will be with us for awhile. Went to our local market for a couple of things yesterday and it was stripped clean of many things. No bread, milk, most meats, chips, sodas, fresh veggies, and many other things gone. We might be out of danger of flooding, but groceries will be scarce. So many evacuees here in town. Our little place is not really equipped for this sort of thing. At least the gas stations got resupplied with gas again.

I hope the rest of you all are alright. @Robino1, praying for you and acceptable results! Stay strong.

Good morning, Sara . Yes, a plant producing organic peroxides in Crosby has exploded twice. Everyone is evacuated for a mile and a half around it. So far, it's just non-lethal stuff that's burning and will produce eye and throat irritation.

We're supposed to have a truck at some point today. I'll stop at lunchtime and after work to see. Problem is, there will be a lot of others waiting as well.

    Morning Lurkers.
Paul, I sure hope all truck gets to you guys with groceries. We are always well stocked with food in our frexperience but often forget about the fresh foods. I had always wondered why my mom use to keep some milk and bread in the freezer. Now I get it.
    Thanks for the coffee KC!

Well time to get going. Mya has an appointment at 8:00 and lazy me is still in her PJs.

    Good morning all.
Thanks for the coffee KC!! Much appreciated!

Have a good day Dale.

Joey, sorry for you long days. We used to do that where I work, during spring hours. Several years ago it got shortened to 10, and people take turns staying late.
They also decided that the office "girls" didn't have to stay...no sense paying the extra overtime for that long of a period.
No way around it, it sucks. :(

OBG, that's awesome!!! I'm soooooooo happy for you!!!

Paul, I can't even imagine going through all that. :(
There is a semi-trailer being filled that's sitting at the little grocery store where I often go.
It said on the news that a trucking company has taken 6 or 7 empty trailers around to different communities to be filled with food, water, and basic supplies, and when they're filled they're going to drive them down to Texas.
I know that's only going to make a minuscule drop in the bucket of what's needed, but hopefully areas across the country are working in like to help. :nun:
I just can't imagine where all the people are going to go. Their homes and even their towns/cities aren't going to be habitable for awhile to a very long time. :(
I really can't even wrap my head around all this...it's such a massive scale.
Sure brings back all the memories of what we saw after Katrina. :(

Have my dental cleaning later this a.m.

    Working on my first cuppa.

Hey @57chilicat how is Mya doing?? Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers!

    Good morning lovely lurkers.

I have an extremely busy day ahead, even more so than yesterday and that was very busy...my mind is already going a thousand miles an hour trying to plan things out...I hate when the boss is out of town because it always makes my days so much more hectic. :glare:

Chili, hope everything goes well with Mya today!

We're supposed to have a truck at some point today. I'll stop at lunchtime and after work to see. Problem is, there will be a lot of others waiting as well.

    I can't imagine what that's like. :(
Paul, I can commiserate with that experience...we had to drive over 30 miles each way to get to a grocery store...and we had to do that for a couple of months because the ones here couldn't get shipments in or they didn't have power...and lucky you guys had gas arrive...I can remember the lines outside gas stations here waiting on the truck to arrive and then people running out of gas while they waited...and those gas shortages ran inland for over a hundred miles because everyone was trying to find some....fun times!

Yep, lots of places are doing stuff like this...we have several trucking companies here who have donated their trucks and companies and people are filling them up with stuff...I know they are heading out tomorrow to go there with all the stuff...they'll do more loads over the following weeks...we know what it's like, so whenever this happens somewhere else, everyone comes together to try and help.

It has been so amazing the amount of help and support, not just by Texans, but all over the country. Things like this do tend to bring people together in the spirit of helping. It's been amazing to see. I work right along I-10 and I've seen literally thousands of support people traveling to Houston. Many trucks towing boats, hundreds of State Troopers, several convoys of military vehicles, empty busses for taking evacuees out. Quite a sight to see.

I know I keep saying it, but I just can't imagine living through that.
I know we have tornadoes, but those aren't generally in a large are, mostly just hit and miss. :nun:

I know my nephew from FL always talks like getting gas and sometimes water is the hardest...and cash from ATM's or banks. When the power is out for so long, few places can take a debit or credit card.

La. officials keep saying they (and the people of La./Gulf states, all want to help Texas as much as they can because Texas was such a good neighbor when Katrina hit.

Now I guess Irma is churning around. :(

Have a good day Angel. Sorry it's going to be so crazy. :(

Good morning Chili, Lori and Angel

Best of luck today Chili with Mya!

They were showing the line of people lined up who had taken their personal boats. Just amazing!!

Yes, it is so heartwarming to see people come together to help...I was touched so many times by the generosity of total strangers that put their lives on hold and came down here to donate their time and expertise to help rebuild...I met so many wonderful people from all over the country...Disasters do tend to bring out the good, in most people, anyway...I wish I could go personally and help out to try and repay what we received here, but I'll just have to stick to donating.

However, it all adds up. I have a good friend in Houston who is a Metro PD officer. He says the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston is at full capacity for donations (and volunteers). While the current emphasis in the news is on Houston, there are tons of other communities who have pretty much lost everything due to the Hurricane itself.
