The problem I saw with the ZFM mod, and I imagine with this derivitive of it, is that when the reservoir is down to only partially full it is dependant on the angle of the ecig to maintain contact between the fluid and the bridge. It's fine if the ecig is either horizontal or with the batt side angled slightly downward, but not with the batt side angled slightly upward. If you're aware of this and compensate for it, it's not a problem, and can even be a positive by giving you a little flow control over it.

Now if you're able to eliminate the bridge with your direct tube idea, it would still be angle dependant, but that's less of a problem because now you're going to a full manually controlled system of drip delivery, and the angle would be a simple part of that process since you're already consciously controlling the flow as needed. For drippers, this may be the best thing since sliced bread, but for someone looking for a "set it and forget it" solution, this is moving further in the opposite direction and probably wouldn't be for them.

Please correct me on any misconceptions I may have.

Also, how clean or leaky is it to top-off on liquid through your check valve if there's already some liquid in it? It doesn't leak any as soon as you break open the valve? Or is it only intended for empty refilling?

Actually me and my old man thought of the GPS over 20 years ago.. Ran the idea over to my cus who was really into computers and he told us that it would be too much work to make all those roads into a program. Me and my sister just bought my Dad a GPS for Christmas and i brought up the story to the family to there surprise.. We were in the appliance delivery business and thought it would be the perfect invention.

Thanks to him, were still poor!

Oh and another one for ya.. i thought of ebay before ebay but didnt talk about it enough with the family to get my point across.. poor support. I have that prob still to this day as my wife cant listen to anything i say lol.

GPS tech is a lot older than 20 years old, it just wasn't available to the public due to the limitations/access on satellites and portable computing power back then. Inputting all the roads would have been the easy part!

And come on, Ebay's just an online format for auctions which have been around forever, it's simple progression and hardly some original thought. The key to Ebay's success wasn't thinking of the idea, it was the execution and marketing of it.

And I suppose you would claim to have invented the internet if Al Gore hadn't beaten you to it lol

When I was a kid, I thought of virtual computing. Problem is, someone else beat me to the punch, I just wasn't familiar with it at the time.

Doesn't make me the inventor, same for you, I'm sure. :)

Just a little update. This "mod" is working as expected.. perhaps even a little bit better. I ended up "flipping" the silicone cap upside-down. It just seals better that way when dealing with different atomizers with slightly different bridge placements.

The performance is just about exactly what you'd expect. Vape a while.... get a bit of "taste" and the vapor gets thin... press the "button" for a few seconds.... and then just vape away some more. In other words, the button just corresponds to "dripping".

The acid test was a recent holiday trip that I took with the family to St. Louis. That's a 7 hour trip (when dealing with a wife and small child) and it involves one mandatory stop about midway for the voiding of all bladders.

It worked out that the "double" capacity of the fluid reservoir now exceeds the battery capacity of a Mega 510 battery. So in practice.... I filled the sucker at the beginning of the trip and put on a fresh Mega battery. I merrily vaped to the midway point and at the 3.5 hour mark I replaced the battery and topped off the reservoir. The battery was about shot but the reservoir still had liquid in it. Then I was set for the remainder of the trip (another 3.5 hours). And I vape a lot when I drive (especially with the small child playing the Chipmunks loudly on her DVD player)!

I see some small opportunities for refinements.... but I'm generally pleased!

Scott how are you sealing the airway between the 2 halfs ?

LAter
Marlbuzz

Excellent question!

The machining on the two halves is pretty good.. and the outer sleeve helps to create a seal, but it's not perfect. I tested.. fitted.. tested... and when I was finally happy with the intermediate results, I put a very light film of fillerless epoxy on the mating surfaces and pressed the two pieces together (they are an interference fit in the outer sleeve). I double checked the angular alignment and let the epoxy "kick". After it was cured I checked the reservoir and the outer vapor channel to make sure they were "hermetic". Got it on the first try.

As I kinda mentioned before, if I didn't want to increase the capacity of the fluid reservoir I could have done this inside of a traditional cart (instead of having two pieces)..... although I would have lost a little capacity due to the spring and 50% of the .125" ball.

somewhere out there......
how much? you should get with some of the suppliers and see if you can get this going. I hate dripping and I hate polyfill this looks like to be the perfect solution without having to change the look of the ecig. This is by far the best solution i have come across. You sir will make a lot of people happy.

I am Dr. Gregory House damnit! Making people happy is not my intention or desire!!!!! ;-)

(Sorry... if you've never watched the show then my avatar and that comment will make absolutely no sense to you at all.)

Personally I consider this to be a "good mod". Perhaps even a "great mod". I use mine every day, all day and it has bumped up the "enjoyment factor" on my 510 by a couple of notches.

The problem is... that without tooling.... it is a time consuming PITA to make. And time is my most precious commodity. So I put it out there in the public domain without any strings. I'm hoping that perhaps somebody who has a financial interest in the manufacture of PVs or PV modifications will contemplate it.... understand why and how it works.. and perhaps incorporate the feature(s) into a commercially available mod or PV one of these days.

It's just not going to be me.

FYI:

This is the "style" of MJB that you would use if you have removed the bridge from your atty and want to direct drip onto the coil:

All I am doing is creating an extra-long cartridge. To be honest, I am looking at the "Mega" carts from TW and think that they'd probably be an ideal candidate for this mod since they are already about 2x the normal length. Also keep in mind that you don't really need to double the length of the cartridge for this basic mod to work.... you can do it in a stock cart but will lose a little bit of liquid capacity (but will still have more capacity than a polyfill cartridge).

So.... this is just two cartridges... cut in pieces and stuck together. The outer sleeve (made from an old atty or battery) just holds them together and gives the assembly rigidity. The "seal" between the two pieces was enhanced with a thin film of epoxy.... and that ensured the continuity of the vapor passage and liquid reservoir.

But yet here he is now.. trying to push this mod to make a buck! lol.

This mod is not for sale. Anybody and everybody is free to make their own or use the intrinsic technology to their heart's content. I clearly stated that I have no plans to make any of these for anybody with the exception of my family.
