Pop, you leaning toward heated or cold maceration these days?

Too early to tell. I have several favorites that I have extracted both methods, and when I can do a side-by-side comparison that would give me an idea of what I prefer. Also, I am waiting to see if aromatic tobaccos retain their top note flavor longer. Six to eight months is about it for Cold maceration.

I'm glad to see Haunted Bookshop up. Mine is in the mail. Always had high hopes for it.
Received and bottled (80% Ethanol 20%VG) Peterson's Elizabethan Mixture today. Will cook it tomorrow.
Can't wait to see how it compares to American Spirit Perique....which I love.

Cornell & Diehl Yorktown - Pipes and Cigars

Extracted (Heat Extracted) - Feb 2021
Mixed @ 10% (30/70 w/10mg nicotine) - 3/20/2021

Very highly reviewed at pipesandcigars.com and at tobacco reviews.com, this selection is described as stoved Red Virginias that has bright flue-cured Virginias added, then heated again. It promises to be a Virginia lover's dream, and many who reviewed it call it their all day smoke.
I purchased this hoping for something similar to McClelland's 5105, an outstanding stoved tobacco briefly mention on the first page of this thread (McClelland closed shop several years ago). This is nothing like that. The prominent flavor is a grassy overtone, and a very grassy aftertaste. There is none of the sweetness often attributed to Virginia tobaccos. There is a little body under the grassy overtone, probably attributed to part of the mixture stoved. But it is a very grassy, almost hay-like flavor. Those who like the grassy, earthy flavor that some Virginias produce would enjoy this selection.

That was always my gripe with many Virginias. Not a hay fan.

It is a sad day. Just started into the last 30 ml. of Decatur Black Cherry :(
Still tastes great, though...
Yeah know the feeling. I'm sipping on the last of the last you so graciously sent me...all the way to NZ...what a man you are ;)
Luckily i'm on a roll here...the tobaccos are flowing in. Only one of the 20 has been confiscated by border control....not a bad average.

Glad you enjoyed them. Feel free to add your impressions to this thread anytime you feel like.
Due to recent regulations, I am not attempting international mailings anymore. Hopefully you will continue to receive your tobaccos and, using the information in this subforum provided by @Str8vision , @johni and others, you will be able to create your own delicious NET flavors (and tell us all about them).

TBH i'm not to "nuanced" in the tobacco vocabulary department...yet. Man there's some people here that are seriously gifted (you included) when it comes to describing flavors.
At this stage, best I can do is tell you which I like...not so much why.
Then again, i'm sure it's also a learning/educational thing. I'm reasonable new at tasting, identifying and evaluating all the different individual tobaccos in a mix. TBH at this stage i enjoy both the lighter and heavier ones...exited to see which way I migrate going forward.
I'm collecting some single tobaccos to...Virginia, Burley, Latakia, Cavandish etc. Plan to make my own mixtures in future...once i'm better educated.
Yeah thanks for the invite. Expect to hear more from me in future.
Just want to mention to...the best thing I could've done for tasting my tobaccos, is getting a Dvarw DL. This thing is soooo smooth and flavorful. For me, it's built for tobacco. Fantastic no nonsense, bullet proof tank...once you learn how to wick it

Not gifted, just interested. Smoking a tobacco pipe, on and off, for decades and occasionally dabbling in fine cigars is the base for my tastes. Research also helps. Virginia tobaccos have a natural sugar the grows in the leaf, therefore it becomes a sweet tobacco. Cavendish is a process that enhances the sweetness. Burley is grown specifically to avoid natural sugars. White Burley is nearly tasteless to me, but a good Burley has an earthy, nutty taste. Turkish is commonly used as a cigarette tobacco, if you've smoked cigarettes then you've smoked Turkish. Perique is a specific tobacco that is pressed and sealed for a year, this makes it spicy tasting. Latakia is an Oriental that is fire cured over bark and herbs until it dries out, making it a stout and flavored tasting tobacco.
And that's just from pipe tobaccos. Once you start into cigars - Maduro, Criollo, Connecticut Shade, Corona, Habana.... that's where you can find just how nuanced tobaccos can be based on the seed, the soil, the method for growing, the harvesting, the curing method, all goes into the taste the growers are reaching for.
Not gifted at all. Just interested in how what I am tasting got there.

Yeah I only started my love affair with the humble tobacco plant when I took up vaping. Never really appreciated it (for what it is) in my 40 yrs of smoking cigarettes...damn you Big Tobacco...such a shame.
Been doing lots of tobacco research lately and only now starting to pick up on the little nuances natural tobacco does offer...sweet, fruity, tangy, natural smokeyness etc...and the best of all for me is that anticipation of the tingle in the nose...love that
Vastly different and much more enjoyable than igniting tobacco !!!

Cornell & Diehl Three Friars - Pipes and Cigars

Extracted - (heat extraction) - Feb 2021
Mixed @10% - (30/70 w/ 10mg nicotine) - 3/20/2021

I've already reviewed this selection as cold maceration. This time I am vaping the heat extraction using PGA/VG as an extraction medium.
This extract vapes differently. The individual tobaccos are more distinct, the Perique is spicy and the Burley is nutty. The Virginia occasionally rises up to add a sweetness, but the three flavors do not blend together as well as they do through cold maceration. This extract has more if a bite to it, as if the tobaccos are competing rather than complimenting one another. This makes for a slightly stronger taste overall.
It has been noted by others that heat extracts are stronger while cold maceration makes a more nuanced flavor. Three Friars is one tobacco blend that seems to support that train of thought.
