Quite a few of us have stuck with smallish (nothing more than a single 18650) and high-ish (12mg or more) nic the whole time we've been vaping.

Now as for the pods, I can see where some people might want that, but it's not for me.
Pods, just seem so costly and I would worry about what all the ingredients are. Remember cigarettes started out as 1 ingredient and look what
Some pods are refillable, you can buy unfilled Myjet pods and I use my own juice. I agree they are expensive but I was getting a five pack unfilled for 7 bucks, now the chepeast I can find is a little over 13. Interestingly enough the Myjet gives me the best flavor for MTL I've ever had, now I'm trying to emulate that geat flavor in a Kayfun V3 mini clone to keep cost down, not quite there yet. I'll still use the Myjet for stealth vaping it's perfect for that. And I rewick them, but haven't found a good way to recoil them yet.

Well, as far as basic principal goes, there's not much else that can be said for improving something that already works. Vaping has already advanced pretty far and in such a short amount of time that there's not much else that can be improved upon. Let's take a look back at how things started...

When vaping was first thought of in the US, the battery technology just wasn't there to support it. Therefore, it didn't take off. With the invention of Lithium Ion, battery technology made vaping feasable. When vaping first became popular, the problems with runaway leaking came into play. vaping produced little vapor, and settled on cartomizers to control leaking. To get true power, they relied on mechanical mods, and the ultimate in rebuilding was a genesis style atomizer. So, a mechanical mod with an AGA-T or a Nemesis dripper were the norm. Many wicks have surfaced, but it still seems the Silica is the primary choice, since Silica cannot be burned (I have taken a blow torch to silica.. it just gets red hot, but never melts or burns). I still say silica is the norm because Cigalikes are still the dominant factor in ecigs. Most of us on the forums, however, are in the hobyist range. Int he hobyist range, Cotton is the preferred wicking. Several of the past and still contenders of wicking, are Rayon, hemp, SS mesh, SS wire, ceramic (remember trying to make ceramic wick out of an airstone?). So, wicking nowadays is either cotton or silica as the main contenders.
Wattage mode was the main contender for overcoming the voltage limit of the batteries. Temperature control is still popular, but I still find wattage mode is more preferred. Mechanical mods are still made, but regulated has become the norm nowadays.

So, the basic principal of heating the eliquid has still remained. Piezoelectric has also been used, but is a copyrighted design by Ruyan, so that probably won't resurface for a while. Besides, I think the heat is also looked for and is cheaper to manufacture and maintain. A heating element heating the e-liquid suspended by a wick is still the preferred and will probably be the same for a long time to come. The decks have changed wildly, but have settled on a bottom wick design pioneered by the Kayfun series. Todays decks mostly bear a similarity to those Kayfuns of old... tweaked for modern styles.

Non rebuildables stems from the Kangertech's subohm style...where the coil is in the middle of a metal chamber, and cotton blocking the juice flow from flooding. All the other coils seem to be tweaks of that design.

I think most designs have been tweaked as far as they can. most new "innovations" are tweaks off of old styles. I don't see many tweks to improve vapor or cloud production in the future, but maybe more for leakproof or refilling methods.

anyways, that's my ::2c worth.

Good summary of the history. I'm not sure who pioneered the vertical coils, perhaps Aspire with the Nautilus BVC's, which were a big improvement over their horizontal stock coils and now many manufacturers do verticals so I would add that to the history. And of course squonkers, RDA's, cartridges, and cartotanks were there in the beginning.

Veering a little OT, how long does a pod last between your rewicks, and when is it finally shot? It still looks like an attractive solution for stuff like travel and all, but the only pods I would use would be with my own juice. I refuse to go back down the exorbitantly priced retail juice road.

Hey Eskie. I have a low tolerance for coil gunk, so I only get one refill vaping nets and two refills vaping a cleaner DIY juice I make before rewicking the Myjet pods. Others go longer. Now where I'm struggling is is in cleaning the coils before rewicking, if I use a lighter, you can't dry burn with the Myjet - I get a slight off taste - others have said they don't notice that, but again, I'm sensitive to any coil gunk and likely taste the oxidation. I'm now trying an everclear soak (really didn't seem to help), and a dishwashing liquid soak and a cotton swab, seems to do a fair job on some of the coils. If I could get the pods cheap enough again I would just toss when the coils gunked, I prefer convenience. I vape 80pg/20vg so I will warn that some have had dry hits with high VG (and I have even had those on occassion with the original Myjet, before they added the extra little air hole, "V2"). Lots of info in the Vape Pod Systems forum, including for the Myjet, not sure if you've browsed there:

+1 for the solar power e cig idea :) an davidwolf I'm trying to choose between a myjet, juul or I care. You say the myjets good for mtl? I like the idea of these vape pods an cos the myjet is wismec it makes me want it more. Wismec are one of my favourite companies.
I'm using a smok osub 80w atm with the nautilus 2 I got yesterday but these vape pods look handy for the pub.
As for the future. Vaping has gone far enough, I'm happy Vaping at 10-25w mtl

LOL!!! I Hope cloudchasers wont hate me But i dont think it is going to last long. MTL is the future!
I dream of a world where cloud chasers and MTL'rs can all live in peaceful harmony. Ok, I don't really dream about it, but it'd be nice.

Perhaps you didn't understand my post.. he WON'T vape, because you have to add eliquid periodically to the tank, as well as change the coil.. he thinks it's too much hassle.. lol..
I think lung cancer or copd would be a hassle too... sigh. At least my hubby is willing to give vaping a shot, at least when he's around me. He comes home from work stinking like an ashtray though. And I'm definitely the one that takes care of all maintenance.
