What I find of interest as well is I always thought that most if not all of the vapor was generated on the coils. So with the tube/wick design, where exactly is most of the juice being vaporized? On, and within the wick itself, of primarily the inner glass surface?

I've recently changed up my dud builds rather drastically to using a 1.6mm wide 500 wick with 5/6 wrap coils closely spaced on the bottom half of the wick. So now I'm wondering if this config works so well while only using 8 watts because I get more of the mesh itself producing vapor due the smaller heat sink, and concentration of heat with the coils being closely spaced rather than spread out over the length of the wick.

Gawd. I had to unsubscribe from this thread just to save my mobile phone battery. LOL

I replied back to Technical Glass Products about the shipping situation. We'll see what comes of it. Maybe they have some vapers in the house...

They got back to me after I emailed them and said about $20.00 for UPS shipping 1 piece.

I haven't heard back just yet, but I threw in the possibility of USPS. $25/4ft is still not all that bad for what it is, but like I mentioned, we'll see what comes of this when I do hear back. Maybe shorter pieces can be negotiated.

By cutting the tube short inside the cup... What I don't know is would that leave enough air flow and surface area to A produce enough vapor and B to to get any kind of draw from the thing.
But this works th opposite with the vapour coming from the center of the tube and not directly upwards from the coil, it would be forced sideways back into the tank. I wouldn't even attempt it on a nova myself.

Here is a video @ my crude quickly put together cotton variation test.
best seen full screen HD

It was a cold test on raw cotton & barely oxidized wire. I mostly just wanted to see a close up of what would happen in the tube. It seems a pop creates a channel & that channel is likely the keyhole to vapor production in such a sideways cotton version. Gdeal has a hypo needle tube air mod, that would be worthy of further investigation here, if the air was directed to blow softly(big gauge needle) through the channel. It was taking way too long to heat up with my kicked mec mod unit set @ 5 watts, so I used a super ego vv so I could quickly dial the power up. Lots of flavor & throat hit, but the airflow...you'll see my summation @ the end of the vid ;)

My "Spin E" coil often does the pop thing when the cotton is fresh, so I sort of expected it. Fresh cotton seems to have a heat conditioning period. The fibers once heated enough settle. I would imagine the sideways glass channel would grow to take up more of the inside of the tube area, if vaped to a settled down cotton stage. Thus I suggest a tighter packed bigger wad of cotton, to lessen shrinkage may be in order. My crude test used lightly packed cotton & with cotton "less is often more" "the less the better", but likely not in this case.

Check out my YT channel for some cool airflow vids ;)

What's the max Temp of the coil? Would this work as a ss wick cover? http://www.electriduct.com/Nomex-Braided-Sleeving.html It comes in a 1/8" braid with a 662F Continuous Operating Temp rating. Maybe it would be toxic? I'll leave that to the experts here.

edit I'm thinking the braid between the ss and coil not over it

Nomex is highly carcinogenic so no. This won't work.

Definetaly not these ones, their glass, just dont know what kind:confused: I used it just for a test(didn't vape though) and the darn thing spewed out vapor for over a minite and a half without issue:ohmy:

Usually some kind of heat resistant glass. Your one of the few to have found one not made out of plastic :) Give it a go and let us know how it goes. Glass is pretty inert so the only problem you face is whether it will crack and explode on you so run it through a heating up tests
I did mine with fuse glass and vaped off it, its just to big and needs some work.

Not sure, but is this what you were looking for.? They have different ID sizing. Nextel Braided Ceramic Very High Temperature Sleeving
Some time ago I had tried using Silica sleeving over the stainless wick to eliminate the shorting problems - vaper was OK, but the flavor was less than desirable. I was trying to find a supplier for ceramic sleeving, in a size that would work, but never found one, and I sort of forgot about that idea. This thread has renewed my interest. Maybe with the collective effort of those interested in Dan's idea, someone can find a supplier and we could experiment with that.

Edit: Way to go Pete54, you read my mind while I was posting!

Silica atties and genesis atties work in different ways

Not true. I use Silica wicks in exactly the same fashion as a ss wick in my AGA-T. It is mounted vertically in the hole just the same a ss wick - no difference in performance other than a slightly muted flavor with silica. And Silica does not go through a tank of juice as fast or require the higher wattage, saving battery life.
