Looking for a suggestion for what to use to seal the top end off this tube rather than melting the glass.

jb weld is rated to 500f....not sure on the health hazards

what about food grade silicone?

Im leaning toward JB weld I think its pretty safe and can handle the temps. Their web page even says it is consumable but not recommended.

Big Screen looking good man! I had a thought for you and joining the NR wire to the Nichrome without all the twisting, have you ever used crimp beads before? Something like these and you can get them in silver and in pretty small sizes at a Michell's or your local craft store. I use them a lot on my Penelope.

Boy, that would sure make things easier! If they still fit in the tube after squashing them, that might be all that's needed to seal in the top.

If not squash'em flat and fold them over on themselves and squash again put some JB on that puppy sand slide it in there!

OK. Looks I have some shopping to do tomorrow. Michael s for some connectors, and Auto Zone for some high temp JB Weld.n

Pretty sure this coil gets to hot for Silicone. Hell I melted the first tube during a test dry burn

Yeah, those crimp tubes/beads are way cool...makes it sooo much easier to connect the NR. Be sure to get the proper size crimping tool as it will make the tube fold into itself and creates a nice compact finished product.

k3vin, here's an eBay listing for 100' nickel wire 32AWG shipped for about $11...not a bad deal.

These are the tubes I'm using. Wonder what is meant by melting point? Guess is they are easy to melt, because they are. BTW Kymex is just another Brand name for Pyrex.

I think that FQ, pyrex, or the sapphire versions would be better since the glass you're using melts so easily (and would be more prone to temperature shock/cracking). I'll do some searches...

I seen them too. Thing is, you need both ends open to put the coil in though. The diameter of the ones I use is so small I don't think it can be done any other way.
