I'm absolutely loving this thread!- Wish I had more time to sit at the bench and play!
This video tears apart an AVA atomizer. The same designers of the apex alpha and the cera.

Just to beat the dead horse into the ground.

I also looked on the inpu site but didn't find those samples-nice find! Didn't even think about carbon fiber as resistant element when I researched it as a sleeve. I also thought of using mica but didn't get that far in case someone else wants to venture on it. I'm gonna stick with ceramic,FQ, and sapphire for now.

Cool stuff, y'all. Amazing stuff going on.

Final update on the FQ tube samples here. 'Letters' were dropped off and on the way. Hope the USPS is swift in getting it to you.

Couple of caveats, The packaging was a joint effort by me and one of my neighbors, so with the resources available at the time, could be a good thing, maybe not, but I have faith. :) I did my best to fill orders as requested, and then some. Also, some of the tubes may have a small bluish dot on one end or the other, which was my method of marking, nothing to worry about.

Anyways, as always, please be careful with how you apply this. This is all fairly new territory. Inspect the tubing as you would do if you did it yourself, and adjust it accordingly. Always wear eye protection and although I found that hand protection wasn't necessary for me, it's not a bad idea.

Peace y'all, and have fun playing. If you have any questions, or received yours in poor condition, let me know. I saved a little bit of extra to take care of that.

I've been procrastinating in posting this but this is what I bought recently at lowes to help me make my coils..it ran me $35 and if I need to be able to see even closer on something I am working on I use my reading glasses with it as well.. Also it has a light fixture in it..

It's on rollers but I plan on modding it so it is attached to my desk without the rollers on the bottom..

Thanks, man. Appreciate it. At the rate things are going, who knows what this week will bring. Ya know? lol

And as far as the magnification thing goes, and boy howdy did I need it the past few days, I got a cheap visor off of Amazon. Really works well with glasses. Lighted too.

Special thanks should go to TbinAZ for his unselfish work on providing us with samples to pursue this project. I know many have offered to reimburse him and he nonetheless turned it down. I believe a medal is in order...

Bigscreen,Would you mind letting me know how you ran your negative and positive connections?

I am relatively new to RBA's and am a bit ignorant.Thanks.
The negative comes out the bottom of the tube into the tank, then up through the fill hole to the negative screw.Remember, this end is no resis

The positive ones out the top. Ideally, no resistance would be used here as well, but not having micrcrimp connectors on hand, I opted to twist the nichrome together to reduce temp of the short exposed leg to the positive nut.

Can't stress enough the importance of sealing the top end to air. You do not want juice inside the tube.

I'll try to add some tips when I get home.

Thanks, man. It was a decent learning experience. I enjoyed it. I can appreciate even more now what the co-op leaders go through.

Now I'll get out of the way of all you mad scientists here. ;-) You guys realize it's only been like a week or so for this thread right? Truly amazing what you've come up with already. Very exciting stuff. Thanks, scubabatdan, for rekindling this.

Same here: I have an old russian set that I bought many years ago. Heavy and made of glass, had to find something lighter. Picked up a cheap "1 - 3.5x" lighted for 14 bucks on Amazon. The lens swivel is a bit "iffy" but otherwise very comfortable and light.
Amazon.com: Professional Jeweler's Lighted Magnifier Visor - 5 Lenses 1.0X to 3.5X - Weighs Just 2 oz.: Home & Kitchen

Just saw it went up. I picked it up on Black friday.

Holly snap i just got a 2ohm 30gage kanthal coil inside of 16gage needle!!!

How robust is the baking soda oxidation?

Because that was a tight sob :D

14 or 15 gage would be cake but 16 was the biggest the farm store had.

image.jpg

Makeshift 16gage needle coil....the baking soda must have worked it seems to be heating evenly

Coil round 2(on right) sealed the base and extended the coil (2 ohm), left small air gap around leads. Wrapped w/ 30mm #500 mesh. Fired for about 30 min off and on @ 8watts with 80%vg. Great vapor production after warm up. I didn't use nr leads so I didn't try to vape it I know what hot kanthal tastes like. Took it apart no cracks in glass but very fragile, juice was drawn into tube and burned. Like big said, the top has to be sealed. Be cautious if you try to seal the whole thing because the variations in temp will blow out the weakest point
