I received my Vmod XL yesterday. I had spent the last few days using my chrome Provari 2.0, with a drip tip, an iClear 30 and a Vision Vivi Nova.
Impressions: I only used the included atomizer, not the cart. The first 10 draws or so had a bit of a burnt taste, but that went away, and every raw after that was very consistent and flavorful. I used a tobacco-flavored eliquid I picked up from Vape NY last week, and it definitely tasted better than the iClear 30 and Vision Vivi Nova, and was about equivalent to the drip tip with a 2.2 Ohm atomizer on the Provari.
I will be toying with a Kanger Protank and Kanger EVOD on the Provari as well, and other atomizers at different resistances with a drip tip on the Provari in the coming weeks, but the Vmod as-is is a very pleasant, consistent experience. I am still waiting for a slew of eliquids, mostly 100% VG and some organic, from 3 different vendors, as I begin to sample and pick what I like.
I got the burled wood case, which looks IMO much nicer than the stock silver matte case. More importantly, it FEELS better, as pointed out to me at Vape NY. It feels... sexual, like a velvety skin.
I purchased a number of chrome drip tips from Vape NY. Chrome drip tips look GREAT with the burled wood. GREAT. I bought a long neck and a couple of stubby tips. Spike at Vape NY mentioned that the stubby tips, which I originally purchased from her with the Provari, might be too short for the Vmod XL (she uses a Vmod XL), as they might bring the Vmod XL too close to my face. I did not find this to be the case. Both stubby and long neck tips worked well, but of course, the stubbies worked a tad better, as they leave less travel distance for the vapors to exit the tip.
I also picked up one of those fail safe devices for the battery for the Vmod XL from Vape NY. While both the included flat top battery and the button top battery I used in the Vmod fit with this device, the included flat top battery needed a much firmer press to fire. The button top battery needed what I believe to be a proper amount of force to fire. The included flat top needed a firm press, it felt unnatural and uncomfortable to have to press so much to get it to fire. I have not tried the batteries without the device, and do not intend to. I suspect this issue is further exacerbated if the device is not placed with the battery in the Vmod XL, as it would mean even more space in the battery section, which means the included flat top would need an even firmer, deeper press, but I do not intend to test this theory. Vmod XL go BOOM = bad.
Funny aside: I also ordered a burled case from Vapage, but accidentally ordered the smaller size for the regular Vmod. Interestingly enough, I like the smaller size this case implies, and may end up ordering the Vmod 2.0 as a THIRD device, since it seems even more pocketable, which is important for us men folk during the jacket-free summer months - unless I time travel back to 1999 and begin using a Ferragamo man purse. Which, no. Although it would come in handy to shove aside the throngs of fools who insist on walking on the left hand side of Manhattan's sidewalks. *sigh*
Thank you to the host of folks in this thread, especially fourthrok, who convinced me in the hundreds of posts here and the predecessor thread to try the Vmod XL.
