Anyone ever come up with a way to secure the cover without the chimney? One of mine vapes soooo much better without it. I can't figure it out. I have checked the orings etc and they all seem to be in place. The vape without the chimney is perfect, even if I slightly screw it on it gets really tight. I have bathed it, talked sweet to it and everything else I can think of. Weird though, it did this in the beginning then worked finr and now it just started doing this again. My other one is fine

I'm stumped Crocky. I keep thinking it has to be something with the O ring. But what? Did you try putting the chimney from the Vmod that works okay in the stove up one? That might help determine if it's something with the O ring in the chimney...or if it's something with the O ring in the connector. If the other chimney works okay with the faulty Vmod, then it must be something going on in the other chimney, right?

Crocky, this is the 4.8v battery I mentioned. They are a different chemistry than the lithium ions we are used to. They are a set of 4 NiMH batteries (1.2v) and a fairly low mah rating, but awesome nevertheless for a "5v" vape. They take a special charger.

"4.8volt NiMH Battery 600mah for 5 Volt vaping. This battery is approximately the same size as a 18650 battery. Battery is typically used in 18650 size MODS for High Voltage Vaping. Not recommended for use with atomizers or cartomizers below 2.0 ohm resistance.

Note: 4.8v MiMH battery should only be charged with 4.8v MiMH battery charger (sold separately)."

BadDad, I like the AW IMR 18650s for the XL, as well as the 4.8v green batts (for a 5v vape). I don't think anyone can ever go wrong with the AW IMRs.

Which ones do you have/use?

Yours come off the charger at 3.8?? They should be 4.2 hon... hmmmmm

And what charger are you using?

If you decide to go with the AWs, RTD is a solid, popular, ECF supporting, reliable, reasonable vendor. (rtdvapor.com)

Which charger are you using too? They should be coming off the charger at 4.2 volts and no higher. But the current, 32nd revision of the TrustFire TR001 has been tested to show it's only charging Li-On's to 3.8 volts - if it ever gets there at all. It can take 12+ hours to charge a 2900 mAh 18650 battery.

Speaking of RTDVapor, if your charger is suspect blow a whopping twenty bucks on an Xtar WPII 2 and you get a charger that works right and is backed with a 2 year warranty.

I'm using this one for the 4.8v batts, Rick.

Agreed batts need to come off the charger at 4.2v. I don't use a Trustfire TR001 anymore but good to know that they are not charging up to the required/recommended voltage.

I had an Xtar WP charger and it was fine. I'm now using (and like) the Nitecore and a Pila and a Luc. :)

Well I can't find anyone who has a Vmod2.0 with a RM2 on it so i will have to wait until I get mine to check it out :) Good thing I have a big box of Boge cartos to use just in case...

i am not using any vapage attys or any other attys been there done that with the Vmod and the REO. Me no like them at all no way no how :)

The only person i found uses a VmodXL with a RM2 so that does make me hopeful because i have 2 sizes of the reomizer2 to check.

Roll call

Thanks for the heads up about the 4.8v charger for the NiMh. Waitin' on the next Vapage sale right now but I can see a 4.8 volt possibility in my future. ;) I've seen those batteries around ever since there have been box mods but interest in them seems to have petered out after VV devices took hold.

It's the newest TR001's - the version with a 3.0/3.6 volt switch that are being annoying. The fact that TrustFire keeps changing the specs, but never actually changes the model number, causes a lot of confusion and frustration. Old timers will chime in and say "my TR001 is perfect." And then you have to ask "how old is it?, when did you buy it?, does it have a two position switch on it?" in order to figure out who has what revision.

FWIW Nitecore chargers scare me at this point. I don't like the recent complaints popping up on ECF about failures. I don't know if the problem is just overall bad quality control, or if it's the 'attack of the clones' and the people who chase after the lowest possible price get what they... well they get what they get. Whatever their problem is I'm sticking with Xtar and Pila.

If anyone wants to check out the Nitecore issues do an ECF tag search on nitecoreproblem (one word). I started tagging the threads reporting Nitecore "issues".

Oddly enough no I have not tried that but I will today. I wonder if I can take the oring off the chimney and use it like that if I find the problem is within the chimney itself.

Even more weird is this morning it seems to be pulling much better. I have the chimney just barely screwed in. Only a matter of time though before it goes back to being tight.

Thanks for the thought, not sure why I did not think to try that....

I do have a question for my fellow Vmod friends, what battery are you using in your xl? I'm finding that the ones I have are not lasting as long as I had hoped. They came with the first tube mod I graduated to, almost a year ago. They come out of the charger at 3.8 but they don't seem to last very long. So I'm guessing I need to replace them but I'd like to know what everybody else is using.
I haven't heard much good about the ones Vapage sell, not that I think they are bad, mind you, just not as good as we can get. SO I'm interested in opinions.

Hey 2423kids, would it be in bad taste if I told you I have 2 grills and a smoker?

tearose, I'm still looking for that part to fix my Revo, still searching with hope. So I haven't forgiven up on it yet.

Hey fourthrok, Glad to see you still around. I'm like you, just enjoy tinkering with stuff to see what works and what doesn't.

And welcome to _more_ for rejoining the mad little group we have. I say the more the merrier and that's enough of my rambling for one night.

Morning VModians! :D

"Bad taste"? Nooooooooo Grill Guy ... Not at all! LOL! I'd say your place would be #1 pick for a party! ;-)

Believe it or not ... I've used the original plain blue 18650 battery that came with my VMod kit! I bought a couple additional packs of them to have on hand when I first purchased my XL. I got a few more during their last 1/2 sale! They've worked great for me ... And a bargain price when you purchase during a 1/2 off sale! The newer ones now have a shiny blue wrapper with Vapage on them. I've not tried those for the XL yet. However ... I have tried the newer 14500 Vapage ones and DO NOT like them with the 2.0. The tops of them are not flat enough to work real well in the Baby VMod (for me anyway). I've found that the battery used in the smaller VMod makes a huge difference in it's performance! I have been using and really like the black AW IC Protected 14500 - 750 mah. They fit the 2.0 better and have flatter tops than the newer Vapage 14500's. The charger I use is the Xtar WP2 II Intelligent Charger ... Batteries charge to 4.2 ... Then stop.

As for the tight draw with the "chimney" ... Ummmm yeah! I've experienced the same thing on and off! Sometimes I've taken the atty out and blown it out real good and that helps. Also how far you tighten the atty down makes a big difference. Too lose ... Not good ... Too tight ... Not good! After awhile you kinda learn where it's just right ... And when the atty might just need to be blown out to work better. The chimney thing OFF the VMod allows more air ... And I agree it performs better. I've always thought the holes in the chimney should be made larger! I've not attempted this yet. The VMod takes a harder draw to get the juice into the atty (for sure) than any other bottomfeeder I have. BUT I like the chimney do-dad because the atty is covered up and protected for out and about use (and it doesn't look like I'm puffing on a walkie talkie! Lol!).

Great to have new peeps around! Have a super "H U M P Day ... Yeah!" (Camel talk ... LOL! ;-))

Speaking if which: What kind of run time do you get with the 14500 model? I'm considering that one because I have a pile of protected 900 mAh 14500's at hand.

I can almost use the full bottle of juice and sometimes all of it in my babyvmod. Typically, I swap to a new one when I am home from work. Vape during the evening then another fresh in AM. Cuts down on charge times and in rotating thru multiple batteries not using same one over and over.

vapage 14500s ARE BIG. I'm mainly using blue trustfires or efests. This is on both a shifu 1.5 and a 306 2.0. Both perform similarly to me.

Mine came from Totally Wicked, they were with the first tube mod I purchased, just under a year ago. They are just labeled as Totally Wicked, Re-chargeable Lithium Ion Battery, 18650, 9.7v, 2200 mah.

Yep, 3.7, I tried it 2 different times. Threw me off too. And I use to do electrical work, so I know my way around a meter.

Trustfire- TR-001

I was leaning towards the Panasonic ones, I've heard they were very reliable and lasted a little longer then most. Still doing my research and that includes all the input from all the people I've been introduced to here.

This wouldn't work for me, I already have 2 chargers, one for 18650 and one for 18350, so I don't need another one for another type battery.

It looks like a new charger is in the forecast for me, I just took out a battery that has been charging, according to the wonderful green light, and it's showing 3.8v, which is not good. That would explain why my batteries are not lasting as long as I feel they should. And dumb .... me never thought about checking it. I just took it for granted that the batteries and charger were doing their job. DUH! Live and learn I guess.
