Although I agree with what you posted I think it is not alwys about kickbacks. I think the majority of the time Dr's get their information from a Pharmacutical rep who visits their office and leaves samples, telling the Dr how their latest greatest new drug will cure whatever better than the other Pharmacutical companies medication.

Probably true, much of the time. I know when I went for my asthma checkup in Dec, I asked for a prescription for Advair, to get my asthma back under control; he gave me the prescription, and also some samples to tide me over till I could get the prescription, but they weren't Advair, they were for a newer long-term asthma medication -- and they worked well, but I trust Advair more, since it's been on the market longer -- and hasn't been recalled for some weird side-effect. But I already know my doc has a brain in his head; he never gave me a bunch of grief about my smoking, because he knew it was a waste of time for both of us, and he reacted quite favorably to everything I had to say about e-cigs -- probably because THEY ACTUALLY WORK TO HELP YOU QUIT SMOKING, unlike all the other crap out there.

@ian-field -- I've heard good things about that mist, but I don't think it's available here -- guess the pharmaceutical company hasn't greased sufficient palms at the FDA. And I really don't think BP makes *anything* that isn't humongously expensive -- which I think is behind much of the popular interest in "natural" remedies, they're usually cheaper -- AND safer.

The brand name is Nicorette if that helps any.

As for GPs - in the UK they're supposedly paid highly enough to not need kickbacks - but every time I see my GP, his desk is always cluttered up with pharm Co promotionals. There's always piles of leaflets etc, plenty of printed on pens, calendars and items ranging up to the lower end of executive desk toys.

Yeah, pretty sure the only thing Nicorette sells here is the patch, gum, lozenge, type stuff, and maybe an inhaler type thing, though that might be "Nicotrol" -- and from what I've seen, it's got all the stuff that's in ejuice, PLUS a bunch of other crap that does who-knows-what. And, as noted, BP charges a fortune for anything they make -- e-cigs are dirt cheap, comparatively!

I asked my doc about the nicotine inhaler when I first saw the ads about them; he said that by law, because I have asthma, he couldn't prescribe it to me. So I said "so it's worse for me than smoking?" He said, no, probably not, but it was the law. I said "so those who MOST need to quit smoking, are pretty much up a creek without a paddle?" He agreed.

So there you have it, the ANTZ traditional "quit or die, and we don't really care which."

Patches gave me a nasty allergic rash.

Something we're not allowed to talk about here, that some people allegedly mix in their juice - is a bronchodilator and useful against asthma.

Some people have told me they can smoke that - but a straight cigarette would kill them.

Ian since go surgery's got control of their finances they are being bombarded by pharmaceutical company's my gp always has a pile in the corner he refers to it as the trash heap and has made it very clear to everyone he will prescribe what is best for the patient. They can't avoid it and some surgery's make use of the freebies to cut a little of stationary costs as bundles of stick it notes and notepads are given the pens are usually given to patients to fill out any forms.

I've heard of this, but a) I'm not sure that vaporizing albuterol with heat would be desirable, and b) in my own case, I have no "liquid" albuterol, only inhalers. And no, I can't get it; because of low-income and no insurance, I'm in GSK's "Bridges to Access" program to get free medication directly from them.

If your talking about other stuff as an asthmatic I can tell you this is not the case. At least it wasn't for me back then.

No, he's talking about using a bronchodilator in the vape -- albuterol. But I really don't think using it with heat-vaporization would be very desirable. The nebulizers that use liquid albuterol don't use heat, they're "cool mist". My son used to have to use that, and it's quite different from the vapor we use -- I often sampled it (asthmatic myself) in order to teach him to use it properly (he was about 6-7 at the time).

No I wasn't - you jumped to conclusions and fell down a well.

Ah... probably because I'm so accustomed to the "other stuff" discussions being verboten around here. :D My mistake, sorry. But I have a "dry leaf" atomizer now. :D Easier on the throat, when you're no longer a cigarette smoker. ;)

If e-cigs didn't make you cough - they'd hardly be any use to replace cigarettes.

Throat-hit is a major part of the experience that somewhat replicates the cigarette experience, and is also what makes one cough.

Yep! It's a very fine line for me, because without TH, I'm just not satisfied at all... but too much, and off I go, coughing up a lung.

Most who switch from smoking to vaping, after a while, the coughing goes away. As an asthmatic, looks like the morning coughing routine is here to stay. At least it's not as bad as it was when I smoked. :thumb:

The one I don't get is; "lung hit" - if vaping produced any sensation in my lungs I'd be a bit concerned!

I don't get the "lung hit" thing because I'm vaping to keep from smoking, and I certainly never smoked that way -- not tobacco, anyway. :D I want my vape experience to be as similar to smoking as I can make it -- but tasting better, of course -- so naturally I "mouth hit" my vape -- that's how I smoked! I mean... DUH! :D

Can't say I understand lung hitting either apart from bigger clouds then mouth to lung but a few years ago when all those experts were coming out with "nicotine isn't the problem for quitting its the whole ritual the hands and mouth" (well in the UK) I bought a pack of herbal things trying to quit omg they smelt like a bonfire and tasted like a week old sock but it did make me realise the biggest thing I missed was the throat hit. I think that's why vaping worked as well for me I take an inhale and get that lovely hit and it's why I'll be vaping till I croak.
