Let it cool down for a while and try locking in the resiatnce again. I found this helps if the STM isnt quite getting to temp! Good luck :)
Yep I get the same experience and thats all I run STM's that is I love em. 275 is my sweet spot anyway and I find I can hit it with 13-14J.

I am glad I took the advice of the 5 wrap 3mm coil works really well on the STM. With the legs comes in at .27-.28ohms. I also love the availability of all the spare parts. You can get everything so you have extras just in case. The first one I got is just as good as the last one. The one thing I haven't tried is the rba sections with the holes in the sides but all the others work great.

I recently built my first Ti coil (Spider Silk 26g) on my Velocity RDA and I'm curious to know how everyone is heating their compressed coils to ensure the heat is evenly spread across the coil in order to avoid potential hotspots. I just pulse carefully without allowing the coil to glow very much then let go quickly, and repeat as necessary. (Generally the same method as Kanthal I guess but just being more careful and not allowing the coil to heat up very much to avoid Ti Dioxide from forming.) The end result varies from blue to gold colored coils. I haven't wrapped a spaced coil yet but I presume dry burning wouldn't be necessary since it's not compressed.

I set my mod to 7-8Watts and do some short heatings to see it glowing. I hope I do it right :D It turns blue, yes.
Likewise. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some special method that I wasn't aware of. I clean the wire before wrapping (although the wire I purchased was extremely clean).

I use SpiderSilk too and using spaced coils I never pulse them. No need.

While I've gotten a few builds to perform "ok" I've been having some real (NOT!) fun with Ti wire.

First came the winding - dang stuff is so springy! I ended up dry firing or resorting to the butane torch to heat the coils up to remove the springyness.

All my Ni coils I wound by hand but had to resort to a coil winding jig for the Ti wire. While I have a 30/32awg Ti/Ni twisted build in a STM I'm fairly happy with a whole bunch of wraps of 24AWG Ti installed on a ST (came out to 0.5ohms cool) seems to be working/wicking and functioning well with a IPV4S in Ti mode driving it.

What brand of Titanium do you have?

Ukaimen (sp?) supplies - where most other folks get their Ti wire.

I may of mentioned that I've only used Ni200 in the past so the "springyness" of Ti is new to me. I'm used to using 28-32AWG and having lots of windings. Ni200 when wound by hand (yes you can wind it by hand easy) will almost naturally create evenly spaced windings. I can stuff 10 winds into a STM very quickly and easily.

The TI I have to 'test fire' the stuff, adjust it for hot spots and then the coils are stuck together without any gaps for the wick to get extra coverage. It is a real PITA to get the needle nose pliers to "clamp" the screws otherwise when tightening down the Ti has a tendency to escape the head. There ain't much 'give' once its installed to realign to the juice channels.

I have standard lengths of 24-32AWG of the stuff to play with and a few tanks dedicated to Ti now for trying to get workable builds. Outside of the sturdyness and higher resistance of the wire I've yet to find an advantage to using it over Ni200. I usually get a few weeks use (at least) out of my Ni200 builds so the advantage for me may boil down to stuffing dual Ti coils in my larger (ST and Lemo2) tanks. The later of which I have a decent dual Ni build that I'm happy with.

For those using contact coils, are you pulsing the wire first to blue/gold or just wrapping straight after cleaning?

If you are pulsing what temp and power are you using?

Interesting timing on your question! I have been TRYING to like TI for a few weeks but didn't see what the fuss was about. Was always doing spaced coils. This morning I made a contact coil, and wow...I think there is a chance I may be converting to TI.

Roxy, I have read quite a few posts on this and what I did was wrap a contact coil with a coil master, mounted it, pulsed it a 7 watts a few times in VW mode squeezing with tweezers after each pulse to make sure the coil was tight and it glowed from the inside out. It turned a shiny blue/gold color. The vape is absolutely fantastic.

Thanks all for the info and learning in this thread!

I pulse at 8 watts and leave the temp at 360F but leave the coil spaced while pulsing. I think it's okay to squeeze the Ti windings together after a thin oxydized layer has formed. Usually I wait until I rewick to squeeze if needed. I'm pretty new with Ti, so I may not know what I'm doing!

I wrap my Ti coils tightly, install them, pulse at 10 watts, strum the coil guitar (play a little stairway to heaven) till she's glowing from the inside out. Wick her up then vape it, till my coil is covered in black gunk. Replace, repeat, and also learn to play different songs on my coil guitar (ac/dc back in black is next on my list).;)
