Thanks. The reason I asked is there's a certain European modder who has a vaporware temp-control mod that will only work with titanium, who keeps saying things like "DNA40 is not accurate" and "DNA40 can't work with titanium". Of course I know he's wrong, and now you do too! :D

errr....now I wonder who you mean...lol! I thought it was smokeware!!!

My 24g isnt shiny like yours. And it is kind of rough to the touch,. I assumed this was the oxidation layer!

Rossum, any comments/thoughts?? In your blog article that you alerted me too, your wire looks pretty much like mine..

Are you talking to me? :D :D

Anyway, my wire is quite shiny yes, don't ask me why... maybe because I polished it with propyl alcohol before I installed it? Not really because on the reel its shiny too... not as much though. :)

Mine is rough too but in my case its because of the production method (can't find another explanation). On one side of the wire I can definitely see something looking like a zigzag pattern as if a machine was pulling hard on the wire... maybe even the reel machine. They are very very fine marks though. I can't see a regular machine producing this pattern. Almost like it was twisted on its own axis but the marks can only be seen on one side and with a good magnifying glass.

That's why I was saying it looked like it was made to cut through flesh lol.

I'm not that happy with my Ti coil today. Woke up, grabbed my mod and took a few puffs... hotter than yesterday. After a few minutes it got better. half an hour later, I take a few more draws and barely any vapor (temp protection hitting at 0.1W). Waited like 30 seconds, tried again and then it started to work like intended.

Don't know. I really love the Ti lack of taste, coil roughness and ease of wicking it without killing the coil but my morning experience wasn't good at all. Lets see how it will behave during the day.

Regards
Tony

I'm at work now and it's working fairly ok.

Mine is the german one so if your's coming from the same place, you know what to expect :)

Btw, before you freak out when you get the spool (like I did).

Titanium grade 1 is marked: diameter in mm, total length on spool, "TITAN" diameter in awg

Titanium grade 2 is marked the same way but has an extra sticker stating "G2".

;)

Just an update. I think I found the problem. Not going to tell what it was because it's too embarrassing [emoji15]

yeah come on!!! We wont laugh ;)

spill the beans!^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

edit: just put a new TI build on a CEO and it's rockin, same ole 7 wraps double twisted
Oh well...

Remember when I said the ft kayfun glass would fit the erlk? It does but it's not as tight as the original poly tank... It starts to slip and spin with less force than it's required to attach or remove the atty from the mod.

Yesterday at 3 am, swapped the o-rings for some new ones (same diameter and thickness though) but since it only helped a little bit, I decided not to screw down the atty fully...

Do I really need to explain the rest? It's really humiliating.... [emoji14] [emoji14]

last time i was home was in 87, i can't speak fluently anymore, but my mom speaks it quite well and i can understand most of it....Seehausen is in Southern Bavaria on Lake Stafflsee where all the topless ladies frolic...and i was quite a beer drinker then, man i had fun me and my Opa drank beer and schnapps everyday.
my grand-parents are dead now but my aunt and cousins are still well...have a great day Rossum.

i'll be in the states 50 yrs come august

edit: i got one of those new coil twisting tools and wrapped a new TI coil (7wraps double-twist) for my CEO early this am, i think it looks better but it still came out @ .27

I am following this thread with real interest. I ordered (with express shipping) my SX Mini M Class last night, and since my wife is allergic to Nickel, Titanium is likely what I am going to run with.

I do have a question though, one reply stated that dual coils were bad for TC. Would anyone be able to elaborate on this for my knowledge? I have several drippers, and the two main tanks I use (Goblin and a Goliath) are dual coil. So if there is anything that I need to know regarding using TC with dual coils, please fill me in lol.

Welcome to the thread :)

I wouldn't say "bad", it just usually is harder to make it work ok.

TP uses the coil average resistance to determine temperature. Imagine a inch long coil with a 2mm airflow hole beneath the center. When you fire that coil, it's likely that it will be slightly hotter in the center than on the edges. The average resistance might read 400F but it would be naive to expect that the entire one inch long surface is at the exact same temperature. While you take a draw, the center which is directly in the airstream is probably cooled down more than the edges. So, once again, the temperature is not uniform across the coil.

Now imagine two separate coils in parallel. The device will use the average resistance of both coils to calculate temperature. If one has a slight margin of error, two will have a bigger margin of error.

Now introduce human error (unless you make two perfect twins) and you have one coil that might get hotter than the other but the device will average out the temperature and be fine with it.

Duals do work but probably more hassle than it's worth it in TP mode

My two cents

Thanks for the discussion. I have digested the GG thread and this one. So far I am using a never torched/pulsed dual 24 gauge spaced 6 wrap Ti build in my Aeolus on my Vapor Flask DNA 40 with excellent results. It came out to .09 (low but I just went with it) and I have it at 25W limit set to 350F.

I do have a few questions though:

My Grade 1 Ti came from Etsy and has a textured matte grey finish, nothing like the shiny coils pictured above. Cleaned with alcohol with no change and no residue visible on the cloth... Thoughts?

How do we toggle out of Refinement mode on the DNA 40?

Thanks much

Sounds good. I guess if you are going to do dual coil, the Aeoulus looks like a nice atty to do it on! In general they cause trouble because of the need to make both colls essentially identical.

I would advise not to pulse or dry burn Ti. If you want to do it, I would check out posts by Rossum in this thread and elsewhere as to how to do this without causing trouble!

I have noticed the same thing with wire from a different set of sources. The 24g has a slightly dull appearance while the 28 and 30 are rather more shiny..No idea why this is..

How do we toggle out of Refinement mode on the DNA 40?

Unless you have the latest DNA40 chip from evolv this is not possible!

Cheers

Did my first rewick today with a titanium coil.

It's a breeze. No problem whatsoever to replace the wick and clean the coil under hot water. It doesn't go mushy over time. I feel the only way to ruin that coil is to drop the deck, face down on the floor.
