Sando,

What resistance coils are you building with the titanium and are you using it on a SXmini?

.26 on a no logo hanna clone from A.C., have 2 of them and they both work great.
waiting on a blk v3 waidea flask & a preorder silver ipv4

sorry man sorta dozed off

Thanks Sando,

I was trying to find someone using something greater than 0.3 ohms on an SXmini. Someone told her the SX wouldn't work with a coil value over 0.3 ohms. I have used Ni200 at 0.37 on the SX and it worked fine.

Anyway appreciate the reply.

...

Item #5 on YiHi's spec sheet for the SX350J chip used in the SX Mini indicates, .12 Ohms minimum, .55 Ohms typical and 1.0 oHms maximum for Joules (temperature protection) mode.

I've had nothing but good results using Ni200 so haven't bothered with Ti and my SX Mini isn't here yet but I've used .4+ ohM ni200 coils on my two rDNA40s. They have worked perfectly in temperature protection mode. Can't imagine why a .3 oHm Ti build would not work in Joules mode in the SX Mini as it is comfortably within spec.

Apologies. It slipped my mind to include this correction to their minimum oHm specs for Joules mode that YiHi posted on their SX Mini FAQ page.
Q:What is the lowest resistance of the SXmini M Class device in order to use temperature control ?
A: It is 0.05ohm. Our spec.of SX350J chip wrote 0.08ohm.

Isn't the manual recommending 0.065 as optimum for ni builds? That's almost half of what is written on the quoted site?

Bah, whish I had the sx already, I would slap every known coil to man on it lol.

Yeah. This is ridiculous. ) Why is 0.065 optimal? The errors in T caused by minor fluctuations in anything are so much greater at these resistances...

to be honest Im hoping that Busardo will beat up YiHi for definitive specs (and measure them himself).

Yes, I agree (again).

Funny thing is that HolmanGT has been checking his baseline for the last three days I believe and it's always spot on at 0.065 which is impressive to say at least.

My latest dna build has been floating between 0.14 in the morning, 0.15/0.16 in the afternoon and back to 0.14 in the evening like clockwork for the last few days.

People obsessing over stuff like this is why car manufacturers make temperature gauges that read a rock steady 90C even though the actual coolant temperatures vary between 80C and 110C, and why Evolv now gives users the ability to turn refinement off. ;)

Rossum,

You and I occasionally agree on techy stuff but on this issue we are in "LOCKSTEP". Most manufacturers smooth out display readings to keep end users from going ballistic.

That said and for what ever reason the SX3xx chipsets have in my experience displayed a rather raw display of things like Battery Bar, Digital Battery Level, etc. My Seven 30 which I think, if memory serves me, is an SX300 does the almost if not totally raw display of vales. The battery bar and digital battery voltage will bobble some while just sitting and when fired you definitely see battery droop and things that a make a lot of folks nervous. I personally have no complaints about less filtered displays but like you I know that if you car temp bobbled all over the place a lot of folks would be headed to the "Authorized Dealership" for repairs.

PS - On my Honda Accord I am very confident that they super glued the engine temp gauge needle to the center "Normal" mark. It never moves. :D

I need to look at that manual again. I swear it said 0.05-0.3 ohm just like someone PMed me.

Roxy,

The manual does say that - no doubt about it. But like most modes if you use a higher resistance it does not harm anything it you go really high with the coil resistance you just won't be able to reach the full 60 watts output. If you look up the specs for the chip-set as a separate item they are considerably broader.

But I would guess you don't use it anywhere near the 60 watt level anyway. So if you put a 0.5 ohm coil on yours and get only get to (lets say) 50 watts would it really effect you in any way probably not unless you are entered into a "Cloud Chaser Contest". ;)

Got my 28 titanium, certified grade 1.

One stupid question... Why does it feel rough like it was treated to be used in some sadistic lethal weapon? I would swear it seems to have been machine twisted to cut better through flesh...

I'm sure you're correct, but that is confusing for someone trying TC for the first time, like me.

I didn't notice any roughness, but it seemed thinner than 28g kanthal, which I did not expect.

Hi.

I'm finished

28awg (0.34mm) titanium grade 1 spaced 6 wrap coil on a 2.5mm mandrel came out at 0.34 Ohms.

Temperature set at 160C (320F)

I don't know what to say really... Wow...
I thought I had a clean taste with rayon...

I'm amazed!

PS: The fasttech kayfun glass fits perfectly on the authentic (erlp). The glass does spin if you grab it with your hands (which can be a bugger to remove the atty later) but no vertical gap. Perfect fit.

Oh, I grabbed a piece of titanium, torched it, it became grey but I couldn't remove the oxidation with a tissue. I had to basically scrape it off with a scalpel.

I need to try to wipe it clean with my juice and see if the oxide goes away.

Oh and clean your wire with isopropyl alcohol before making the coil... I wiped it down and was getting grey streaks on my tissue for 3 or 4 passages until it started to 'squeak' and no residues were to be found anymore.
