I've been following this thread for a while now, and have been using Ti for about 5 weeks, in a Lemo 2, mostly on the vapor flask DNA40 in TC mode, with at best average results. I went back to Ni200 in the first Lemo 2.
I bought an evic VT 2 weeks ago and built a 26g Ti coil, in my second Lemo 2 tank, and put the bamboo wick in it. The difference was noticeable, in the evic Ti mode it was blowing clouds.
I re-coiled the Lemo 2 on the VF DNA40 with Ti and a bamboo wick, set the temp to 400°F and 27watts, this time it performed so much better.
So I wrote a post about it, and mentioned the improvement using bamboo rayon.

I'm one of the beta testers so I have it. IMO, I'm getting a better vape with the ti mapping than I did before I had this firmware.

Roxy,

Does yours read higher than expected during firing? Mine works but it idles at about 475 powering it with 30 watts. I have a dual coil with a total resistance of 0.22 ohms.

With Ni it idles around 375.

No, I haven't seen that happen. I'm currently running a twisted 28g ti coil at 0.22ohm, 30J and 345°.

If I had numbers like that I would be a happy camper. That is more what I was expecting. I don't know maybe it has something to do with the dual coils?????
When I get my 24 Ga in a few days I will give it a try straight if that doesn't do it I will try a twist pair of 24 Ga and see what happens.

it is hard to trouble shoot stuff like this it could be darn near anything and without specialized equipment to test it just leaves me with no place to start looking.

Right now my dual coils in parallel measure out about the same resistance as yours and I am hitting with 30 joules also but my wattage reading is about 100 degrees higher than yours.

PS are you hitting your TP value during a pull?

No, its never hit the tp.

Did you d/l the new firmware from Yihi? It look like its up now for everyone.

My next experiment will be duals. I've been sick bad all week from my pancreatitis so my vape gear is being largely ignored.

Sorry to hear you have been ill,

If I set the TP to 500 the highest my actual temp will go is 450-475. It is working OK and doesn't taste hot or burn but that is just a lot higher than I expected.

Yes I downloaded the Released test file 2.23 from YiHi.

I don't have the yihi mod, but I have been doing dual coils with Ti. Have you tried a new set of coils? I'm not sure how it averages out the temperature between the two coils, so I'm wondering if you might be getting the same results, just with different readings? You could try it with a single coil and see how the temp compares?

Hi George,

did you try letting it all cool, remove and replece atty and re-locking in the resistance? Sounds like it somehow has goty confused about the res of your build. Happens to me sometimes..

cheers

steve

just noticed you have dual coils...could be some discrepancy and coil averaging etc etc..

See Marc411's thread on the Yihi ti firmware also. He's trying a dual coil now.

I'll be doing the Cthulhu for my first dual. Not sure I'll get to it today, and tomorrow have family obligations if I can manage to be able to leave the bathroom  This is the longest I've been this horribly sick without a break in a long time :(

jks,

Well I just got an update for my 24 Ga Ti and it is out for delivery. So I think I will wait and try a single coil build of Ti on my Lemo 2 and see how that goes. If my mail man is on time it should be within an hour or two.
The trouble with the Ti I have is because of the gauge I can't get more than about four wraps and keep the resistance as low as I would like.

But until the mail man (excuse me Mail Person) shows up I will try some suggestions that Duane suggested and make sure there isn't some hidden resistance the the Dripper construction.

Steve,

I think I did the temperature sync a couple of times and that I got that part right. The big variable here at the moment is the Velocity Dripper Clone. maybe there is something amiss with it. By the way the over all resistance compares pretty closely with what Steam Engine says so I am not too inclined to believe I locked in the wrong resistance - but like a lot of this stuff you need a Crystal Ball to know for sure.

one thing that does have me thinking is that with the Velocity the two coils are very close to each other and there is nothing to shade the radiant heat of one coil from the other. So I find myself wondering if the heat from one coil is influencing the side away from the wick of the other and vice versa. I can rationalize that making the SX think the coil is hotter than it really is. Actually the coil is that hot but it is the surface that is not touching the wick so while the coil reads high on the outside the portion touching the wick is cooler.

I am probably overthinking this so don't pay any attention to the man behind the curtain.

I think I will try some test that Duane mentioned on the dripper and then go up to the mail box and stalk the mail man.

PS - If anyone had told me I would need to be a Rocket Scientist and have a laboratory full of thermal test equipment to vape successfully I would have laughed at them. I could use depleted Uranium wire I don't know how well it would vape but I am pretty sure it would end the vapors problems - forever

I will keep an eye on Mark's post and see how it goes for him.

Sure hope you get better soon. There is nothing worse than being ill and trying to take care of family and vaping concerns or anything for that matter.

Is Spider Silk that much better then other types of titanium wire that claim to be high grade surgical quality #1 or is it all hype? $1 a foot seems kinda high comparatively.

Spider Silk is the only Ti wire I've used so far, and it's done me pretty well. That being said, I don't think it does anything more amazing than other G1 Ti wire. I think "surgical quality" is probably just Grade 1, but that's just me thinking (which has been known to be dangerous!).

Grade 1 is grade 1.

The surgical grade expression is just a gimmik unless they clean and sterilize it. It won't change grade though.

Surgical grade needs FDA approval, tests and insurance... It's more about the use for the material than the material per se. A bone screw can cost easily 500 dollars a piece. The same screw without FDA approval costs only a fraction of this.

You don't actually want grade 1 titanium in your body because it's not that strong. Rather have grade 4 which is stronger but still pure.

50% of world's titanium production goes to grade 5 or higher because of it's strength and resilience.

We should only use grade 1 for our application.

Regards
Tony
