So I just built two sets of nickel coils with a 5/6 wrap, 3mm ID. One for my Goliath and one for my Plume Veil clone. Needless to say, I probably went through 10 feet of wire before I figured out how to get the screws to not snap the legs in half lol. When my SX Mini shows up tomorrow, if there are any issues with these coils, I am definitely going to get some Ti wire...

According to Steam Engine, that should put me right at .065 ohms, the sweet spot.

So guys, how are your titanium coils working? :)

I'm still at my very first one lol. I see no need to recoil the atty.

It shows 0.32 after cleaning all connections and will slowly creep up to 0.34 after 3 or so days. I know by then it's time to unscrew the atty and wipe down the connections with isopropyl alcohol and it's back at 0. 32 Ohms :)

Hi Tchavei,

Could you please tell us what gauge titanium are you using and how many wraps?

28 gauge (or 0.34mm - both are written on the spool 0.324mm vs 0.34mm is marginal anyway), grade 1, 6 wraps come out at 0.32. The coil was made on a 2.5mm mandrel (3mm left hand screw) but as it's a bit springy, it might have ended being more like 2.7mm:

Thanks! Can I ask you to provide a link to where you bought your titanium wire from?

I've had some 24 gauge Grade 1 titanium for quite a while but hadn't done anything with it other than practice wrapping a few coils until today when Tony answered some questions I had about his experience with titanium. I wrapped a 7 wrap coil around a 3mm mandrel and stretched it out a little to make a spaced coil. The only atomizer I happened to have empty and available was a Magma so in it went.

I tried it on a DNA 40 and got 0.23 ohms and the vape was great when set to 300F and 15 watts. I switched over to an SX Mini M class and again it measured 0.23 ohms. It worked perfectly on the M class giving me a smooth consistent vape. For whatever reason the M class at 300F and 15 Joules gives quite a bit more vapor even with the "soft" setting compared to the standard DNA 40 but I can't say at this point that the flavor was different than with the DNA 40. Both seemed great.

24 gauge titanium might be a challenge to trap under those small deck screws on a lot of atomizers so I've ordered some 28 gauge wire which I think will be easier to handle. I'm really interested in trying titanium on the SX M class with my new Erlprinz. I love that guy with Nickel 200 wire and expect it to be even better with Titanium. At least it won't be dimensionally unstable like Nickel and should make it through a lot of new wicks before I have to change it.

i was only able to get 30ga grade#1 here in the states, been doubling mine and twisting in a drill, getting .23 also with 7 wraps......i have liked the Ti better from the get-go and i plan on sticking w/it.....also my Ti is not very springy at all maybe it's due to the fact i'm twisting it.....using this and 2 more builds on 3 separate devices and loving the Vape and my coils seem to last and last without jumping resistance....thanks for sharing druckle.

edit: my setting for temp are 370f and using between 23 to 28 watts w/rayon, still playing around w/it.

:D

Don't you just love titanium?

Now one thing that TheotherSteveS mentioned with Ti coils and the sx mini is that even if you set your temp lower than those 300F, put a dry wick in the coil and fire it, it will be ok for like a few attempts but will eventually start scorching and burning the wick if you keep insisting. This doesn't happen on the dna 40 (I tried) but seems to happen on the sx?

Anyway, I don't think this will happen on a semi dry wick but something you can try out or at least be aware of :)

Sando, you can pick 24ga up here: Titanium Round Wire, 50-ft. Coil, 24-Ga., Soft

And pretty much any gauge you want here but you have to create an Etsy account. Ralph is a real good guy to deal with and ships pretty quick.

Pure Titanium Wire 100% Guarantee Specific by UnkamenSupplies

And Rossum turned me onto a great way to clean up the coil and give it more life, pipe cleaner. I get mine wet run it through the coil and pulse the coil just enough to get steam from the water but no glowing.

Titanium is just more consistent for me and even on the DNA40 there is almost no refinement.

Triple twisted 30ga with 7 spaced wraps will 0.40Ω. Pretty damn good vape.

Marc411, appreciate the info & have it book-marked, yea Rossum was one of the first people i was asking questions to, he is very knowledgeable on this subject & gave me great advice that i've been using.....i been using a soft-bristle tooth-brush on my coils in-between wicking.....just might pick-up some pipe cleaners too.

I will explore that but I don't think it will deter me from using the M class with even the heavy gauge wire. I'm not really a chain vaper and a totally dry wick is pretty academic to me. I have run the Magma with titanium wire and rayon down to the point where I get the dry wick warning and repeated the firing several times. Things looked great in there so I don't think I ever exceeded a charring temperature for any length of time. Practically it just seemed to work. I can't speak for theoretically.
