Set the SX Mini to 270°F and any dna 40 to about 350°F - experiment in that range.

The experience of @tchavei and @Rossum have shown that the dna 40 requires a higher temperature setting than Yihi and most other devices - quite likely because of its fixed pre-heat.

I just got my first installed dna 40 this morning and I will be temp testing it thoroughly tonight to hopefully come up with more general advice.

absoluitely. I azm using an STM @ 0.1 ohms Ni on RBA at 400F on SX and anywhere north of 450 on kangxin or whatever..so it is true for me with Ni also and with chiNA40s..

Oh you set different on SX Mini versus ChiDNA40? Interesting. What Ni200 do you have mate? Stealth?

I was a cotton boy but then I tried rayon and the first "many" rebuilds were great. Lately I seem to be having trouble sometimes making my wicks too tight in the coils and choking things off. I figure it's just a matter of getting some wicking memory going but if any of you rayon guys have a trick to keep me from getting over generous but....ummmm adequate I'd like to hear about it.

My titanium coils are getting upset with me.

That would make more sense :) Though I think that's still new information that the Kangxin is different to the SX Mini. Though actually doesn't the SX Mini do some kind of pre-heat as well? Or is that only when you enable Powerful or similar? (do you have that enabled?)

But there still could be other differences - it's possible that the SX Mini has implemented Ni200's true TCR curve where more basic devices like the Kangxin just implement a flat TCR.

What Ni200 do you have out of interest?

Temperature control + mesh = best vape ever.

I use cotton in my drippers and more often than not don't use enough. Usually wind up either ruining the coils or never getting vapor due to the TC kicking in immediately lol. This is mostly due to the fact the drippers I use with TC are for vertical coils. Such a pain in the neck to wick vertical nickel coils. This is why I might get Ti or maybe even Resistherm before my nickel is depleted.

Get 26 gauge Ti. If you are doing verticals you'll think you've gone to heaven.

I was thinking of getting 26, 28, 30, and 32, playing with it all. Likely twisting the 32. I like twisted nickel, so why not. I'm not sure how well 26g would work in something like my Marquis; it does have pretty good screws but I've never put anything fatter than 28g in something that uses screws to trap wire instead of holes.

Good to experiment. Some of those little screws are almost round bottom and don't take to hefty wire. No doubt about it.

Are you sure you're over wicking? I thought that was almost impossible? I've stuck so much rayon in a coil it starts deforming and yet it vapes like a champ? Maybe you're doing the opposite? I.e not putting enough? The symptoms are similar.

Try to take 10 puffs or so, open your atty and check with a needle if you can compress the rayon at the edge of the coil so that a gap forms. If you can, it's not enough rayon. Too much rayon tastes like a nutty taste that will go away as the rayon collapses a bit. Sometimes 2 puffs, sometimes 5ml (if you really overdo it) but it never stops feeding and giving dry hits unless you don't have enough.

Tony

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I am/was overwicking. I noticed I was getting early TC warning on a Squonk box and dripping gave me a couple of decent vapes then poor again.

I pulled out the wick and wicked it quite a bit looser and it's been performing just great since. I think I got fooled a little because I read something where someone said that cotton could/should be looser because it swells when it gets wet but rayon doesn't swell and so....should be really tight.

With the strength of my 26 gauge Ti coils I'm pretty sure I was over-doing the tight wick.

Thanks for the tip on testing the wick setup. I'll give that a go the next time I rewick.

zivipf 28g I think...
Tom, let me do this again. I should have checked before I posted. Having a senior moment...lol!

Good news is I finally tamed this Calix RTA I have been screwing with..thought I had nailed it before but that was a false alarm. Now I got it right. Ni so far but will rip it out when I finish this tank and stick Ti back in as it was always intende to use it with Ti. The deck is just made for Ti!!

Switch back to Ni200, no way you can over-stuff Nickel coils without wrecking them!
