We speak diffidently in different parts of the US. In the south, we say "car", in the the north, it's "ca". In the north, they say "here", in the south, it's a three syllable word!

Yup and in the north they add an r to some words that end with an a like idea, they say idear.

It's weird that they take the r away from words that need it and put it on words that don't.

Ooops, gotta update that location... I'm in the Keys now :) I was in Fort Lauderdale for 10 years, though. It sure beats the hell out of living "up north"... Lived in Massachusetts for more than 30 years!

Ha that is cool. My dad was a transplant from Waukegan, IL. Moved to Broward in the 70s.

nah man. we dont say CAH for car. thats just those weird jersey and boston folks.
but even in boston and jersey, its weird, not everyone talks like that. just the annoying folks.
well, you can be annoying and still not talk like that. The Jersey Shore kids for instance..
But you can't NOT be annoying and talk like that.. lol it only bends one way.

Lol, really?? I can't imagine what 'here' sounds like as a three syllable word, especially since it's a ONE syllable word! :D Is it something like 'vehicle' that is pronounced too weirdly for words - like a little singsong inflection, in some parts of the US. Not sure which parts though...

Not really. I'm originally from the northern Illinois and I only know one person who says it like that and she was a transplant from Pittsburgh.

Cajun is another one that's a blast to try and spell phonetically. I'uzz jes dahn ehn Narlehnz a waihl bahk when ah wuz wookn, an ah coohd hahdly unduhstan uh woohd suhmovem sahd. And I lived there for 4 years.
Choot 'em! (reference/quote from Swamp People TV show...NOT an indication of what you should do!)

EDIT: The more I re-read this, the more I wish I hadn't put that quote in. It IS NOT my intention to suggest that cajuns should be shot! It is simply a quote from one of the characters on the TV show.
